Ideal Home with all the Amentities

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a home with a great mountain / lake view, located within steps to the lake, with everything you could possibly need, then this is THE HOUSE! My husband and I rented this home for a week. We have four kids, from ages 6-16. We shared it with my sister and her family as well. There were 11 of us total, and we had no problem spreading out comfortably. We were also pleasingly surprised to how well the kitchen was stocked. They had lots of spices, tea, coffee, sugar, oil, vinegar, even condiments! Also, if you happen to forget any blankets for when you get chili, no problem! There are more than enough blankets all over the house. There are binoculars for looking at the mountains, a PS4 for the kids, lots of books, games, and cable TV's. Not to mention, a very comfortable boat the kids will love with plenty of life jackets, but bring your tube! Beautiful new remodeled bathrooms, a multi game table downstairs, and two beautiful decks with lots of seating! Honestly, this house has everything you could possibly need! If I had to pick something to improve on, it would be to add another king size bed downstairs. I felt bad my sister and her husband only had a queen to sleep in for they are both over 6' tall. However, we loved the house and our vacation and have already booked it for next year!!! :)

Multi family getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I have been taking family vacations in the western North Carolina mountains for the past 30 years. We have rented houses in Sylva, Dillsboro, Franklin, Sapphire, and have found the Cashiers/Lake Glenville area the most suitable for our extended families of grandparents, parents and grandchildren. The last house we rented in Cashiers had its own 60 Ft. waterfall and a hot tub and was our favorite. It has since been sold and is no longer a rental. Luckily we found Porchlake this summer and we and all our kids have a new favorite. The house had plenty of room . All the improvements Mr. Calloway made over the years were greatly appreciated. The boat was a big plus, and the 3 person tube was an extra added bonus. The location on the cove was tranquil and the sloping grass area between the house and lake was perfect for the smaller grandchildren. Trout fishing, gem mining, waterfall exploring, golf, boating to the nearby island and tubing was enjoyed by all. The house was well equipped and Mr. Calloway's agent, Anne Jones was very helpful with the details to make our stay one of the most enjoyable ever in the North Carolina Mountains. A hot tub on the porch would translate to a name change to Lake Porch Shangra-la!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind review. It's important to us that we meet each guest's expectation for their vacation, and we and Anne are glad to hear you enjoyed your family time at LakePorch. To that end, we plan property improvements each off season. For the 2016 season, we intend to install new quartz countertops in both kitchens, remodel the hall bath, upgrade upstairs windows, and install a new dishwasher. We'll as well make other, more modest, improvements, all to enhance the LakePorch vacation experience. We'd love for your family to return for another time together at our mountain home. Thanks again, Martin & Karen Calloway

Relaxing peaceful vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family of 12 which ranges in ages from 3-64 stayed here at the end of May. We were so amazed at how well the place was stocked with everything you would need and more. The outdoor living space was so relaxing and had beautiful views of Lake Glenville and the mountains (pictures do not do justice). We cooked many meals in the fully stocked kitchen and enjoyed eating outside on deck and in the screened in dining area. The downstairs was like a whole other living area for kids to enjoy (adults also enjoyed playing card games). We rented the pontoon boat and did some fishing and tubing. The water is a little cold this time of year but the kids didn't seem to mind.

Downtown Cashiers is a really nice place with little shops and would highly recommend the Farmers Market. We also went to Pisgah National Forest and took the kids to Sliding Rock which they loved. Also went to Dupont State Forest which where the first Hunger Games was filmed and has absolutely breathtaking waterfalls. Don't forget to go whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River. All these locations are within a 45 minute drive of the house.

Anne was wonderful to work with and overall this is one of the nicest vacation rentals my family has stayed in and has everything you would need.

Gorgeous Lake Glenville!

  • 5 of 5

We've just arrived home from our stay in this fabulous house on Lake Glenville! (My husband and I traveled from New Jersey - the rest of the family arrived from Louisiana.) Everything was absolutely perfect...we were there to celebrate my mother's birthday and my wedding. My husband and I got married on the front lawn overlooking the lake during the afternoon, then we all had dinner at On the Verandah in Highlands. The decks were spectacular - plenty of room to spread out and relax! The kitchen is fully stocked with plenty of dishes and every imaginable kitchen gadget. We enjoyed dinner each evening in the screened in dining room. We also rented the boat and spent most days cruising around the lake - during our cruises, we realized this house offers such a gorgeous view of the lake along with easy access to the dock. Many of the houses, while on the lake, don't have the same full view of the lake and many have hundreds of steps from the house to the dock. The weather was beautiful - warm days and cool night - no mosquitoes! (What a treat for us!) The house was spotless when we arrived and the realtor, Anne, made sure we knew where everything was. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

Our Time Off

  • 5 of 5

The location of the property is perfect. The decking allows you to enjoy nature even if it's raining.. Watching the geese was very entertaining. We really enjoyed spending a lot of time on the lake. The surrounding beauty was breathtaking. I would highly recommend renting the boat. I would suggest that a folder or book of info available on the kitchen counter would have been helpful. Including info about trash, heat, local resturants, etc. It was a very relaxing vacation.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments, we're happy you enjoyed the many amenities of LakePorch. We agree that the mountain scenery surrounding Lake Glenville make it a very special vacation destination. I see that we've not made our info book easily located, and you're right: there's more useful information we can add. We'll start that process right away, and make certain that the book is on the kitchen counter for each new guest. Thank you for your suggestion, we'd love to have you return to see the property enhancements we have planned for next season.
