Quiet, Rustic and Secluded Villa
Myself and 7 friends spent a week in Casa de Abajo in June. Throughout the booking process, Bob was in regular contact to confirm villa directions and contact details for the Property Manager. Based on location a rental car is essential to access the property and I would advise a reasonably robust car. The lower section of the lane is a bit of a challenge to drive up due to potholes as well as a fresh cover of loose gravel which caused our car to lose grip and get stuck on a couple of occasions. If you are driving up the hill towards the villa (travelling towards Comares) I would advise passing the lane, turning at the recycle bins a few hundred metres up the road and driving downhill onto the lane. This way you can drive onto the lane with some momentum to climb the slope.
We were warmly welcomed by Carl who handed over the keys and explained all of the villa amenities. There were a few technical issues to note. Carl mentioned an electrician was visiting that afternoon to repair a fuse fault with the living room and the pool light was not working. The living room fault was fixed, however the pool light needed a new bulb and therefore didn’t work during our stay, but this was a minor issue. Also, we were advised by Carl how to use the satellite TV system however later that evening we noticed the satellite cable appeared to be disconnected from the box behind the TV and the cable was frayed. This was a minor issue as we didn’t spend much time in the living room during our stay.
The villa is well appointed with a well equipped kitchen including coffee machine, large fridge/freezer, two ovens & a gas hob. All bedrooms are spacious with their own air-con. The villa offers spectacular views to the South, looking out towards the coast. The shaded south facing terrace provides the perfect venue for sharing meals and a few drinks in the evenings. The shaded sunbed beside the pool was also an added bonus and a perfect spot to stay in the shade and read a book during the hot afternoons.
The villa is just a 20-minute walk or 3 minute drive from Comares village with a good selection of restaurants, bars as well as a tobacconist & grocery store. Although I would advise buying groceries en route to the villa, at one of the supermarkets such as El Ingenio in Velez-Malaga, the shop in Comares stocks most essentials (note that it is closed mid-afternoon for siesta).
Overall we would recommend Casa de Abajo as a quiet, secluded villa for a restful stay.
Fantastic villa with easy access to beautiful Comares. Facilities at the villa are excellent, in particular the wonderful outside areas of the property - pool, seating areas etc.
Lovely villa with spectacular views
Our family (my husband and I with our two kids and the grandparents) spent 10 days in this lovely villa in September 2017. We have enjoyed are stay a lot.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The first is a large master bedroom where we had a baby bed available and where our daughter of 4 slept on the corner sofa. The second is a smaller bedroom with a double bed. Also downstairs, separated with sliding doors from the living, there are two bedrooms (one with double bed and one with two separate beds). For few days an extra couple with two children joined us and found the rooms downstairs very comfortable.
The kitchen is well equipped, and we were welcomed by Maria who brought some supplies (bread, eggs, pasta, tomatoes, butter, jam, beer, wine…), which was really nice! At noon we often went to the restaurants in the neighborhood to eat some tapas etc, but in the evening we cooked at the villa. The road to the villa (last 500 meters) is quite steep and bumpy so we did not try this when it was dark J.
Supplies you can find in Comares (lovely village!), Benamargossa or there is a really large hypermarket in Velez Malaga (we stopped there upon arrival and when we went one day to the sea).
At the villa, there are several terraces and enough sunbeds at the pool. On the terrace besides the kitchen there is a large dining table where we enjoyed breakfast and dinner with stunning views. Watching the sunset in the morning, or the sun go down in the evening is wonderful as well are all the little lights up the coast at night. A bit more light at the terras would be handy in the evening, now we had to bring several small lamps etc outside …
We would like to thank Maria and Carl again for their hospitality and service during our stay (they even sent a plumber on Sunday when there was an issue with the water pressure). When we consider another stay in Andalusia we would definitely like to stay here again.
PS: Gin lovers should definitely try the “Nordes” brand in Spain ;)
Thank you Kristien for your kind comments and pleased you enjoyed the villa. Hope to see you return! Bob
Lived up to expectations!
As a family of 4 we stayed for a week during a very hot August. We booked this property because of the pictures we had seen of the stunning views and the different outside areas to enjoy. We were not disappointed. The weather was so hot it meant we did not venture far and primarily enjoyed lounging around and in the pool. The property had everthing we needed from sun beds to a well stocked kitchen.
If we needed any assistance we had Maria and Sergio to turn to and they would respond promptly. The village of Comares is lovely although we only ventured there once. The beach was a 30 minute drive away.
It was exceptionally hot so the property would have benefitted from some more Air Con but that would not stop us going back so not a Major issue.
A great property if you want a very quiet and relaxing week away.
Lovely villa, well maintained and equipped and the views are spectacular!
This is a lovely villa and the views are to die for. Pool may not be the biggest, but lovely and warm and great for cooling off in, and a generous covered terrace offers plenty of space for eating and lounging in the shade as well as sunning.
This isn't what I would call a modern villa. Its probably typically Spanish?I wasn't blown away with it when we first arrived but within a short time I fell in love with it.The views were splendid. There were 6 adults and a 3 year old. There were plenty of areas that we could relax in.We weren't on top of one another.
There were a few things I could fault but they faded away and didn't matter as the days went by.
A car is a must. Some nice eating places in Comares.A small supermarket that had most items that we needed.
If you want an 'away' from it all villa, peace and quiet, then this villa is for you.
We would all return.
Both adults and children appreciate Casa de Abajo and in particular the amount of outside space it provides. And the distant sea views! Comares hilltop village is stunning and just a 20 minute walk for the energetic or 5 minutes by car. Comares & Los Ventorros have several quality eateries for both tapas & meals. Also a good village shop, pharmacy and bank with cash point. The beach is a 30 minute drive max but this rural retreat has everything you need for a relaxing break! Thanks Beth & we hope you return!
