There were a few issues, but overall it was a nice stay
We booked this house in early November for a stay a Christmas vacation to visit family we have in the area. We were coming from the upper midwest. We had to modify our reservation and gave Chuck notice well in advance of the cancellation policy. We had to negotiate to get a part of our money refunded after we left, since there was some miscommunication about the policy. I would recommend that if you need to change your dates, cancel your reservation and then re-reserve the property. His policy does not refund for a partial cancellation, even if it is before the cancellation policy dates.
When we arrived, we were told that the hot tub was out of order and needed a new part that hadn't arrived yet. Also the microwave did not work and the bed in the master bedroom was broke & tilted to one side. There were lots of bugs inside the house, but given that the house is in the country and was experiencing some cold weather, that was expected. There is lots of space and it's very nice. We couldn't figure out how to use the fire place inside and if it were warmer we probably would have used the fire pit outside. We were allowed to bring our very well behaved Springer Spaniel with us as long as we left a credit card number as a security deposit. Overall it was a nice stay.
Pretty property, nice lodge, but not exceptional
To preface, I only rate 5 stars for homes that go way above and beyond with personal touches - welcome baskets/folders, toiletries provided, etc. This property was clean and stocked with cooking seasonings, all kitchen and linen needs, K-CUPS(!!!), but it didn't feel really personalized which is totally fine! Just not 5 star for my own personal criteria.
First, the pros:
- Very nice property. Acres upon acres of land and trails and ponds to explore and play in.
- Lodge was clean and nice, adequately stocked for our needs.
- Quiet and peaceful views.
- Very close to stores we needed, and only 10 minutes from downtown Greenville.
- Chuck, the owner, was friendly and available as-needed.
And the cons:
- We did run into a few bugs (though I half expect that in the country in a lodge)
- We decided on this property over another because it had a great looking hot tub...but it really could have been cleaned prior to our arrival and we didn't use it from it's condition and bugs there, too, unfortunately
- Didn't know it was in an RV park, but admittedly I could have missed that while scanning for a home
- The reason I bumped down from 4 to 3 stars: first night there, between 9-10pm, the entire back of the lodge we'd rented smelled very strongly of marijuana. This means the master suite at the back of the house, where my husband and I and OUR TWO INFANT/TODDLER GIRLS were sleeping. Not happy about that (didn't happen after that first night) as I have to assume it was the permanent resident that shares the downstairs of the house and/or their guests based on the far-off location of the rest of the RVs and campers.
Overall, my family had a great time in the area, and are appreciative of the stay! Definitely a better option for a bigger family than we have, and based on our own personal wants, we would choose a different place to stay next time we visit Greenville. Nice still though, and many thanks for hosting us :)
Enjoyed Our of this Nice Place
Enjoy our stay, Roomy, Clean and Friendly. Would stay here again. Staff was very helpful. Great for families.
Great Family Weekend
My family had a great Thanksgiving weekend at Ivy Acres! The house was comfortable and spacious and well equipped for the 8 of us--6 adults and 2 children. There was ample kitchen equipment to cook Thanksgiving dinner, and the laundry room was a real boon with 2 kids in tow. The bedrooms were pleasant, and the children had their own space which they loved--an enclosed upstairs porch area furnished with twin beds. That room was not listed on the website as a bedroom because it has no heat or AC, but the weather was perfect so the extra room was very comfortable. The large living/dining/kitchen area made it possible to watch TV, play games, and tend to meals. The house was clean and uncluttered. The children played outside, shot basketball goals, fished in the river, and walked in the woods. Ivy, the owner's daughter, lives downstairs and was most accommodating and gracious. We could not have asked for a better host or a better location for our family holiday weekend.
God's little acres
What more can I add that hasn't already been noted? A true paradise located not too far from Greenville & at the same time offers peace & tranquility. Everything the owners promised came true. Our Grand daughter who lives nearby visited along with her parents from Florida. We stayed for a whole week & didn't want to go home as it was so nice there! Hopefully we can return (from Canada) in the not too distant future.
Truly a home away from home!
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS HOME!! We originally booked our stay for 6 nights and ended up requesting to stay an additional night because we didn't want to leave. Immediately I felt at home and had EVERYTHING we needed to enjoy our vacation! Chuck was an excellent host and was there for any questions we had. My 2 daughters (3 & 5) stayed in the "princess room" (the purple & Yellow room) and didn't want to leave. The entire house was so spacious, clean, and welcoming. You really felt like you were home! I can't wait to book our next vacation and stay at the Lodge at Ivy Acres again!!
