About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to 8

The Basics:

3 bedroom, 2 bath house... fully furnished, sleeps 8.

Fully furnished home, tastefully decorated.

Modest, comfortable home

The Beaches:

We are 6 houses from the beautiful beach coastline of Ka'a'awa

No crowds like Waikiki... enjoy both grass and white sand beaches within a short walk.

The Neighborhood:

Our house is on a quiet residential street... you can fall asleep listening to the surf at night.

Conveniently located:

* In the Ka'a'awa Valley where Jurassic Park was filmed

* The Polynesian Cultural Center is about 15 minutes away

* The world famous North Shore is about 25 minutes away

* Honolulu airport is about 40 minutes away

* Waikiki is about 45 minutes away.

The really nice thing about Ka'a'awa : ... is the peacefulness, lack of crowds and natural beauty. You can enjoy our white sand beaches without fighting your way through crowds. The water is a gorgeous blue and there's a natural reef several hundred yards off the coast that keep the waves from being too big and dangerous near the shore.

This is a great place for families or couples, not to mention that it is a great value! There are several other rental homes in Ka'a'awa which are right on or across from the beach. These properties are quite nice, but they also command much higher rental costs. When you stay at our place, you save some money and you are also a block off the main highway, which means less traffic and noise.

Ka’a’awa Weather & Climate: The windward side of Oahu has a subtropical climate with prevailing northeasterly trade winds, which are a dominant factor that governs Oahu's pleasant climate. The trade winds are consistent in summer months, and in combination with the warm temperatures gives Oahu and all of Hawaii great conditions for sailing, boating and other outdoor recreational activities. Oahu has two mountain ranges that separate the wet 'windward' side from the drier 'leeward' coast. The Ko’olau Mountains extend along the northeastern side and to the west lies the Waianae Mountains. Showers occur almost daily on the windward side, while on the leeward said, showers are light. Even on the moist windward side, showers occur most frequently during evening hours. Occasionally the trade winds shut down and it can become hot and humid. It is rare, however, for weather to become severe enough to interfere with outdoor plans

Why Keahiloa chose North Shore Oahu

The windward side and Ka'a'awa in particular have special meaning for our 'ohana. Many of our fondest memories have taken place on these windward beaches. And we are so glad that Pono Loa has become a gathering place for our 'ohana, friends and haumana!

Aloha Bob and Laura,

Mahalo again for everything, we had a great time, the house was impeccable, we loved Kaaawa. We even got to climb the mountain behind to check out the view from up there. We will recommend it to everyone.

Neat and tidy

About a 45 minute drive from Honolulu, this property is cozy retreat from the big city. Be aware that anyplace outside of the city area in Hawaii will have roosters, which will crow at all hours of the morning. Bring earplugs. This home was large enough for 5 adults: 1 queen, 2 full beds and a futon in the living room, although a kitchen table that sits more than 4 would be nice. Neatly kept and organized. Washer dryer was great to have. Spectacular mountain views from the front porch and just a short walk to the 7-11 and a shoreline park with a playground. The owner has a great binder with lots of information in it so we never needed to call them with questions. The beach is about a mile down the road but I would not suggest walking it - a bit of a hike on a very busy road with no sidewalks. Perfect for our needs.

Wonderful stay away from the city

  • 5 of 5

The home is located in between Kanehoe and Laie with gorgeous mountains jutting up just blocks away. The ocean is a couple of blocks away and I enjoyed multiple sunrises from Swanzy Beach.

The house was a perfect size and the layout was nice and allowed plenty of room for our family. Like most homes, there is no A/C. When the trade winds were up, the air was dry enough that with the floor fans blowing on the beds, we had comfortable night's sleeps. When it became super humid, it took a little longer to get to sleep, but we were in a beautiful paradise, so we didn't mind. The home is in the "Country". The people were all so friendly. We loved the lizards and the chickens roaming about. The neighbor cat adopted us and was very friendly. We were able to experience Hawaii much better than staying in Waikiki or Honolulu.

There were some tiny ants that visited once in a while if we forgot to put some food away. But we did not experience any mosquitos throughout our visit.

The home location was good. We were able to get to most places in 45 minutes or less. We enjoyed the Dole Plantation, saw sea turtles at Turtle Beach, spent time at Sunset Beach, Visited Kualoa Ranch (the jungle expedition was great), Sea Life Park, Waimanalo Beach (Lots of sand, very little lava in the water), snorkeled Hanauma Bay, swam in the Waimea falls, and visited the Polynesian Cultural Center (great Luau and evening show).

The day we left was very sad for all of us. We enjoyed our stay and will never forget the memories made during our stay at Pono Loa.

A Vacation to Remember

  • 5 of 5

Aloha Keahiloa and mahalo to you and your family for the use of your home. We found the house to be well-stocked with everything we needed for our family's three week stay. We enjoyed getting to know our neighbors and our kids really enjoyed meeting their kids. The daily rains were refreshing and the mild temps made us forget the Texas heat.

Our adventures took us all over the island of Oahu. The central location of your home made it easy to get to all them. Some of our favorite destinations included the Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, and the USS Arizona Memorial and other exhibits within the Pearl Harbor Visitor's Center.

As for outdoor activities, we found the summertime current at North Shore beaches to be ideal for all of us. The swimming, snorkeling, kayaking were all great. (Now as for the surfing...we still need a few lessons!)

My husband and his dad were able to get some mountain hiking in thanks to the nearby Ko'Olau Mountains while I drove the kids up Tantalus Drive to Pu'u Ualaka'a for an awesome view of Honolulu and Diamond Head crater. This was also a nice area to bird watch.

While our days were busy, we were always glad to return to our quiet and comfortable home away from home. Yes the local rooster does crow early, but not for long. Thank you again for your hospitality!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here a week with my friends. Very spacious, clean, comfortable house. It was VERY close to the beach. I kept traveling to Waikiki (it was a bit of a drive but I didn't mind since I'm used to Los Angeles traffic) and got to enjoy the drive next to the ocean. The house had everything we needed. I hope to stay here again in the future. Thank you for sharing your home with us! Mahalo!

We were so grateful to have one week at Pono-Loa. Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us. The location was perfect for us to visit with family on the island but also be able to explore on our own. Kaaawa is a great community in itself, close to great beaches, parks, north shore destinations such as Sharks Cove, Polynesian Cultural Center and far from the crowds. It was right where we wanted to be. The house was comfortable, full of aloha and well stocked with everything we needed and more. We loved how fast the tradewinds would cool off the house once we came home and opened the jalousies! And of course waking up to the roosters' sound was classic Hawaii! We look forward to our next stay at Pono-Loa!

Ka’a’awa is located on the windward side of Oahu, near Kahana Bay and Kaoio Point.

This area of Oahu has been described as being “where the Ko’olau Mountains meet the sea.” Ka’a’awa, being on the “windward” side of the island, has some of the best surfing on the islands. Snorkeling and diving are also available in the area, and the sandbars at nearby Kaneohe Beach Park make a very nice spot for easy swimming. Ka’a’awa is also just one mile from Kualoa Ranch, which is a horse ranch that offers 40 minute or 1.5 hour trail rides into the Ka’a’awa Valley. This 4,000-acre ranch also offers helicopter rides, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, mountain biking and more. Opposite the Kualoa Ranch is Kualoa Regional Park. This long, narrow beach is bordered by grassy areas and with the grand Ko’olau Mountains in the background, makes a great place along your windward side tour to sit back and enjoy a picnic lunch. Ka’a’awa is one of the best places on Oahu to enjoy both mountain and ocean views
