Beautiful View and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The location was perfect for our family, as we prefer to stay away from crowds and tourists, but enjoy the mountains and hiking. It was no problem to get off to a late start each day because it was so pleasant to just sit on the deck and have coffee and admire the beautiful unobscured mountains in the distance. Julie and Brad have everything in the cabin that you would need - it is well-appointed for the necessities. We cooked on the gas grill after hiking during the day on the nearby Appalachian Trail and visiting other nearby locations. It is an easy and quick drive to Carver's Gap. We took Julie's suggestion and explored Elk Park Falls one afternoon. Another day we took the short drive to Elizabethton and went to the historic sites and visited Watauga Lake. The road to the larger dam was closed when we went there, but next time we will hike the part of the AT that goes through that area. Our children are older, and this is not a cabin for small children. The cabin is also not modern or fancy, but it is clean and comfortable. With that kind of scenery and location, you don't need much else. The location is perfect. I hope that we will be welcome to stay there again! Thanks Julie and Brad!

Unbelievable Long Range Views

  • 5 of 5

House was very cozy and comfortable with everything furnished as expected and even extra things not normally found in similar properties. The huge deck provided great views of long range mountains and closer up views of the Roan Mountain surroundings. In summary, an excellent place to unwind and enjoy the cool, crisp mountain air in the hot month of August. The owner was also very good and quick to respond to questions and provided excellent directions and instructions.

Beautiful views from this quaint home.

  • 5 of 5

Simple and quaint home allows you to focus on the beauty of this area. We loved waking up and having coffee with hummingbirds while watching the mist rise from the Smokey Mountains. 25 minutes and we were swimming in Elk River Falls. 30 minutes to an afternoon snack break overlooking Watauga Lake. 15 minutes and we're hiking to the top of Roan High Knob.

We relaxed in the evening grilling out, sipping wine on the deck and star gazing. We could even see satellites passing overhead.

We particularly enjoyed the break from the 90 degree heat 2500 feet below us. We sat out in 75 degree weather and watched clouds pass by.

Julie's directions and area suggestions were right on the money. She is a wonderful host and we felt very at home. We would definitley return again.

Excellent views and location

  • 5 of 5

This cabin has spectacular views of rows of mountains with an incredible size back porch to sit and enjoy the view. The rows of mountains look like ocean waves. We watched deer graze in the backyard and saw a pair of beavers twice in a 4 day stay. Privacy with a full kitchen but only a minute from the main road going up the mountain. Windows on 3 sides to leave open so you come back after an afternoon of hiking to fresh air. We were there in 2010 and are booking for 2011!
