Location: Next to Dollywood, 3 mile Pigeon Forge, 10 Miles from Gatlinburg Area, Tennessee, USA

The cabin sits on 1 FULL acre atop of Parrot Mountain above Dollywood and Splash Country. Parrot Mountain Park is at the bottom of our hill! While here, you can listen to the Dollywood Steam Train whistling around the next mountain off in the distance while watching the steam roll out from the tree tops. The cabin setting is quiet with the only noise being the local wildlife going about their day. Also during certain times of the day you can faintly hear the tropical birds singing from the Parrot Mountain Park below. You can literally drive to the bottom of the mountain (1/4 mile) and there is the entrance to Dollywood and Splash Country. We also have easy access to all the bypasses into the Pigeon Forge Strip and Gatlinburg without the headache if getting trapped in the slow traffic jam on the main strip. Instead, pick where you want to go and inject yourself into that spot from the simple back routes in no time.

The cabin is surrounded by woodlands on all sides, except of course for the clearing of the view, have seclusion while still being in the middle of it all at the same time! We took a long time to find this perfect location. We did not want a cabin built on a shear cliff (if you have kids or a long night with friends, no need to worry about going skydiving unintentionally), we also did not want a cabin built right on top of other cabins with the feel of having a cabin in a condo development (the whole point of getting a cabin is to be in the woods not another neighborhood). For us, we needed privacy and did not want to look at 4 other decks while relaxing on ours. This cabin fit that main criteria! We are sure you will also appreciate it yourself!

A campfire pit in the front so you can roast marshmallows while checking out the daytime view of the mountains or night time lights of the Pigeon Forge Strip, and Gatlinburg Ski Slope, while still having the feeling of camping in the woods high up on the mountain ALL at the same time!

**FAQ'S**

Question:

We are bringing small children, where are the sleeper sofas located in the cabin?

Answer:

The cabin has 3 levels.

First Floor Media Room, Large LED TV, Xbox 360, DVD (play the childrens movies, Xbox, childrens shows, board games :) ) This room has 2 red micro fiber queen size sleeper sofas. The children usually sleep here if we have friends staying in the attached King Size bedroom. If it's just us, our kids sleep in this 1st floor master bedroom with the 36' Flat Screen Wall Mount TV and watch their kid shows/sleep over thing and then they are out. This floor is seperated from the top 2 floors by an enclosed stairway (keeping out the top two levels noise).

The 2nd level is the living room/dining/kitchen/master w/jacuzzi tub/fireplace/main deck/hot tub on the deck. This floor's leather couch, folds out into a queen sleeper as well. (if you want your children on the same floor with you). The second floor is open (aside from the bedroom) to the game loft on the 3rd floor.

On the 3rd floor is the pool table, tv, darts, and sitting table. We positioned it this way because we could then stay up later, while kids were in bed, and enjoy the rest of the cabin/gameroom/hot tub/deck, while the kids where asleep downstairs undesturbed due to the stairwell. The gameroom is even farther from the 1st floor reducing any 'wake up noise' while the adults were being adults.

Question:

How close are the other cabins next to the Thistle Britches Cabin?

Answer:

Thistle Britches sits on 1 full acre and is on the highest elevation of all the cabins on the mountain. The cabin is surrounded on 3 sides by woodlands, and open to the front view with various trees.

Here is the perspective sitting on the deck facing out towards the view from the cabin:

Right of the cabin:

To the right is 180 degrees of pure woodlands, that grade up 250 feet to the sloping ridge of the mountain, on the other side of the ridge is another 100 acres of pure woods. If you take the short trail up there you can see a 30 mile view of the Valley on the backside of our mountain.

Behind the cabin:

Behind the cabin is 100% woodlands. The ridge follows straight back from the side of the cabin towards the back about 500 foot until the ridge slopes down and ends at a point. I have walked back through the small trail on the ridge to the point and found an awesome 320 degree view of the valley and Smoky Mountains and LeConte. It is at this point you tell is where the indians and civil war soldiers would have used to spot game or use as a lookout point.

Left-Front Corner of the Cabin

This is the 1/2 of the acre we have that contains woodland, and small brush and gently slopes down 400 foot to the end of the road below, further down the slope is a cabin of which is well hidden and more than far enough away.

Right - Front Corner

The front of the cabin contains plenty of trees to block the neighboring cabin of which is about a football field length away, this is the closest cabin to ours which is a very good distance. This neighboring cabin also is set up that their deck is on the other side so any visitors there are on the other side of the cabin from us.

Thanks for making our Father's Day/Birthday weekend so great! We had a wonderful time in this beautiful cabin! Maggie and BooBoo (their dogs) loved the new scenery and napping on the porch! We are already looking forward to another trip!

Quiet, private, and relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

The good: Quiet location, great porch views of surrounding mountains while sipping that morning cup. Although there are several properties around, you don't really "see" them unless you are looking for them. Housekeeping was adequately clean. Although we didn't utilize the kitchen, it seemed well stocked with whatever you might need. Burn ring outside (fire pit) was great. Living room was small, but usable. We didn't go to the mountains to sit inside all day, so room size wasn't an issue. Seems there were lots of electronic gadgets (TV's etc), but again, I didn't go to the mountains to watch TV, so none of those items were touched. Bedrooms were comfortable and had everything we needed for a good night's rest. Bathroom, although small, did it's job.

Needed improvement: We arrived and found scattered trash around the trash can enclosure. It appears something had been midnight snacking at one time. Based on how decomposed the plastics and food items were, it had been there a while. Fortunately for me, I carry disposable gloves and proceeded to pick it all up. I can't stand litter/trash. There were multiple smashed pumpkins strewn about the side of the hill/property that attracted some small night feeding creatures. That kept the fire pit time interesting, trying to guess what was crunch through the brush. Also cleaned up what empty bottles/plastics I could reasonably reach around the property. The point being, I think a little better trash policing could have taken place prior to arrival. Lots of spider webs, dirt, and accumulated leaf debris on the lower porch (it is a cabin in the woods, so it wasn't a big shock to see, but it could have been a little cleaner). Upon arrival, our pass code for the lock would not function. After multiple attempts, I did reach out to the listed property contact (given via VRBO check in page) and a workable solution was immediately provided, so that turned out good. Some of the upholstery is starting to show it's age and life as rental property items. Again, somewhat expected due to being a rental. Should be addressed in the future. Signage for finding the property could be better.

Worth mentioning: Find this property in the daylight the first time. Do not attempt in 2WD if there is snow/ice on the road due to angles of approach/descent. You will hear water pump run in lower bedroom when water is being used. Not bad, just something of note to consider. We would visit again if in the area. Good memories!

The cabin was everything we expected it to be plus more!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with another couple and we had our year and half old daughter and dog and it was PERFECT! The fire pit is a great added bonus. We had a fire every night and roasted s’mores! We had a great view and didn’t feel like we were going to fall off the side of the mountain with the nice big yard. The kitchen had all the things we needed. We wish we would of know it had a Keurig but the regular coffee maker worked just fine. The hot tub was nice and the beds were comfortable. We would recommend this cabin to anyone!
