A Wonderful holiday in Leuca and Stay in this Superb "Villetta"
I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic this Villetta was👌🏼. The ample air conditioned rooms - lots of living space - the location : just literally 150 metres from the Lungo Mar Promenade and sandy beach.
In fact when you come out of the gates of the property, directly in front of you is a stepped walkway which leads straight down to the promenade and sea!
And of course the biggest selling point of this wonderful property is : That Terrace 😎 Going all the way round, tiled and adorned with raffatan seats, hammock and lounger, your eyes had an idyllic feast before them with views of the sea, marina and the famous Sanctuary and lighthouse up on the hill.
The property price - which is fantastically priced by the way - is worth that view alone. Every evening, whether we came back at 10pm or 1am in the morning, we always ended our night with nightcap drinks on that sublime terrace😊
The courtyard at the rear which is gated (so great for security) has ample parking space for 2 saloon/estate cars (which we had) and you can even fit a 3rd smaller car.
The Villetta is also conveniently located for the convenience store (where we filled up with tasty mozzarella, Parma ham, plenty of Peroni beer and the local white wine Frizzantino) and the fantastic restaurants with fresh fish and seafood. I recommend going to the nearby 'Cafe do Mar' and the best one for me "La Conchiglia" which has a 1st floor Terrace over looking the sea - great food at great prices👌🏼👍🏻
I'm half Italian so I'm used to Italy but since the Euro has been in place, Italy has become expensive compared to when it had its own currency the Lira. But here in the Salento Puglia region it is really cheap - restaurants, shops etc. : you can get a 1 Litre Caraffe of Frizzantino wine (it's delicious) in any restaurant for only 8 euros (when a decent bottle of wine in a London restaurant will set you back £25)
We were a family of 6 adults & one child and there was more living and sleeping space available; also a travel cot was already provided for us by the owner👍🏻
I cannot leave without mentioning and thanking the Owner of the property : Gabriele Bitonti 👍🏻 A truly delightful, very charming person.
He was absolutely first class in all my dealiings with him from the point of booking right up to meeting and staying in his amazing Villetta.
Gabriele and his family were very attentive indeed but we didn't need to call on them as all was perfect👍🏻
5⭐️ Rating,Highly Recommended, A Must Rent👍🏻
Top apartment, top vacation!
Dear Gabriele, thx for the good support and communication (and your very good English), for the stay in your top apartment. We loved it. Plenty of rooms, space and all supplies in the kitchen, bathrooms and garden are available for a good stay.. The two terrassen are great with a beautiful few at the sun, harbor and sea. Just a little walk down and we arrived at the boulevard with great restaurants and a very nice place to be in the evening. So we loved the apartment and at Maria di Leuca. Thx and goodbye, Eric, Mireille, Leon, Annette.
Unfortunately bad weather but great house and kind owner
We stayed in Santa Maria di Leuca for 7 nights and it was a great time! Unfortunately the weather was not really good but the house and the jacuzzi (especially for the kids) were great. Unfortunately we didn't use the big terrace on the top floor but the view is great and it would have been great to chill if the weather would have been better. Gabriele is very kind and he was available everytime. WLAN worked perfect, all the house was very clean and we had enough space. We could discover the village by foot and there are some small (food) stores and lot of restaurants & pizzerias in the village and a bigger store 4km away so we could buy everything we needed. All thumbs up! Thanks for all!
Thanks Roland! It was a real pleasure to have you all as guests, you'll always be welcome! big hugs!
Renowned seaside resort for wealthy Apulians since the early 1900s, as evidenced by the captivating Art Nouveau villas that line the waterfront, Leuca has all the features to be the real complete Mediterranean holiday.
At Leuca you will find sandy beaches alternating with rocky beaches, excellent for families and well-equipped with bathing establishments, bars, restaurants and other facilities; Nearby, rocky cliffs pierced by about 30 large karst caves, with a unique landscape. The best way to fully appreciate these fascinating geological formations is by boat and there are many local sailors ready to take you out to sea off the coast. The sandy beaches in the nearby Felloniche, Posto Vecchio, Torre Vado and Pescoluse are beautiful and equipped with everything you need to relax or exercise with hiking trails and many other services.
The name of the city derives from the Greek Leukos, which means light or bright, while the appendix of Santa Maria refers specifically to the religious sanctuary built on a site high above the port, once home to the Temple of Minerva.
Not far from the sanctuary is the imposing lighthouse, built in 1864 on the site of a 16th-century watchtower. Its octagonal shape rises to 47 meters in the sky (over 100 meters above sea level) and contains a spiral staircase of 254 steps. Still in operation, it is one of Leuca's most impressive attractions.
Leuca is also home to a monumental artificial waterfall, built to signal the end of the Apulian aqueduct. The waterfall is only open a few times a year, not to be missed if you are in the area at the right time.
