|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
If you dare to treat yourselves, come live in art, high on a quiet hill top, hidden in the south central side of Sayulita. Villa Piccaso is close to town center, (3 to 5 min walk), without the dust, noise and long walk from north side. Only the sound of ocean waves and songs of abundant jungle life, sooth your senses as you take in the ever changing north coast views. On special days, a huge mountain range appears behind the horizon, like magic.
Enjoy the architectural details of simple whimsical elegance, as they tickle you with surprise, calm you with curves, jazz you with originality, while some, evoke fond memories of your childhood to experience a new. Look out any portal window, 'framing' a new work of art the universe paints for you daily.
You will realize too, the gardens have been designed with the same attention to detail and humor to draw a smile. Shower in nature, while enjoying the vistas of Monkey mountain, or the ¨still life¨ of Iguanas hoping you won't see them in the great tree out back..., and maybe even pick a ripe banana when you are ready to dry off. You may even see rare Woodpeckers ratatat-tating for their young's morsel, or a flock of bright green parrots noisily 'alerting the media' of they're presence during a morning or evening rinse.
From the large upper deck.. wander over, pick a succulent ripe mango for an energy boost. You may need it if you see the waves are standing up nicely, begging you to be they're dance partner just once, with you on board. After all, surfing is one of Sayulita's finest draws.
But alas! No waves for your vigorous morning exercise routine? Go swim laps in the 50´ ¨neck ¨ lap lane of the ¨Picasso head shaped swimming pool. Pistachio PCaso may blush if she sees you are naked, with her huge eyes! Rest in her loveseat ruby red lips, while a jet relaxes a back muscle tightness away. Feel a siesta coming on? Grab a book, and go BE the man or woman in the moon, while lounging and enjoying the ocean or garden views from the moon with a silver lining window. You probably wont read much during the daylight hours, with the spell binding views. But you could at night when daylight is turned off, after enjoying the sunset from the upper roof patio. Twice a year for one week, in April and September, look for the illusive green flash as the sun marches by a valley that frames the ocean.
When the sandman cometh, any cozy room of your choosing will coddle you to sleep, while nature´s new morning surprise out the windows are orchestrated for your awaking. A/C whispers for more comfort if you choose. In the penthouse suite, coffee awaits just around the corner in the outdoor 2nd kitchen/bar area with vistas of Sayulita's beautiful coastlines and jungle mountains that will hold you silent. Listen, and you will hear hints Sayulita is stirring, adding ingredients for your day dawning.
Then it dawns on you, you have not left the house in, How many days? What day is it really? In silence, you may realize for the first time... Ha!, it really does not matter!. Just then, the silence of morning is broken by your house guest laying in the hair of the pool below when calling out, What day is it? You reply in content joy.. who cares!' Because you still don't know, and it really doesn't matter, when you 'live in art'.
Villa PCaso is magic, inside and out.
The house staff can make it more so!
Pepe, ( gardner/houseman, speaks ok English! ), and Kitty,( house maid ), are present daily ( not Sundays), to assist with anything you may desire.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or other special events for a nominal fee. ( great Margaritas, and Guacamole too! )
These two are magicians!
You will see.
I am a garden designer, and home designer, having won a Design Excellence Award for my first home remodel in Austin Texas in 1987.
I love taking eye sores and turning them into art.
Tom McElhenney purchased this villa in 2003
I bought in Sayulita, after extensive travel up and down the Pacific Coast of Mexico, because it is the best beach pueblo on this coast! I have seen them all since 1980.. It is super convenient to fly in and out of Puerto Vallarta, to anywhere in the world! They weather stays a bit cooler than my other favorite spots to the south, so it is more comfy. I have to have topography with my ocean views, and they are spectacular here!
1st and foremost, The location of Villa PCaso, ( not to rip off Pablo ! ), is one of the best reasons to stay here. ALL other areas of Sayulita are very noisy and dusty and some of the popular areas, like the north side, are afar trek from the town plaza. VillaPCaso is located close in.. high on a hill where the noise is blocked by a lower hill towards town. It is only a 5 minute walk to the plaza and beach, and a 10 minute beautiful jungle walk to Muertos Beach.
2nd, VillaPCaso will magically mesmerize you, coddle you and amaze you with it's curvy designs and special details. After 2 years of rental history, Groups wind up going to town less and just stay in the Villa. Pepe and Kitty will go shopping for you and bring what you want, cook meals, whatever is desired for a better stay. The house, and views will keep you spell bound.
no one ever wants to leave!

We had a wonderful stay! The 3 families had plenty of room, the beds and pillows were comfy, the "outdoor" showers were refreshing. Location is ideal and the walk up the hill was good exercise for all of us. We already miss the beautiful ocean/mountain view. We would definitely stay again with a big group.
For my husband's 35th birthday, I planned an elaborate itinerary that included six of his best friends flying in throughout the week leading up to our time in Sayulita. Before settling into chill days in Sayulita, we mountain biked, hiked and ran our way around Jalisco. The grand finale was four days staying at the magical palace of Villa PCaso, which surpassed all photos and expectations. There were eight of us total (three couples and two single dudes), perfect for the villa layout. Lazy mornings kicking it in the pool or doing yoga on one of the many decks were the perfect ways to ease into surfing (or getting pounded by surf). Our days were capped off with Pepe's perfect margaritas on the rooftop patio where we enjoyed expansive views of jungle, mountains, ocean and Sayulita. Pepe was absolutely wonderful, making us feel at ease and cared for throughout our time. His cooking, good humor and willingness to help out with the party planning far exceeded my wildest hopes and dreams and blew our weekend out of the water. He even ordered a cake for the party night! His son, Jose, was a super fun addition to our crew, providing many smiles, big help for Pepe and good Spanish-speaking practice for the rest of us. This clearly is the coolest house on the planet. My only regret was that I didn't ask Pepe to cook breakfast or do margaritas every single night. He's a true gem and I can't sing his praises enough. Thanks, Tom, for opening your mystical home to us! Looking forward to the next!!
Eight friends spent a week at Tom's beautiful house in Sayulita - and it was even better than we could have asked for. Waking up to the most beautiful sunny day, or gazing at the stars and huge moon every night - this has to be one of the best views in town. The rooms are all so comfortable, it felt more like a home away from home than a totally unfamiliar rental house. Pepe is amazing, he made the most delicious octopus and shrimp ceviche we have ever had (and the margaritas sure were tasty). Every morning started with a refreshing dip in the Picasso pool - and the town and Playa de Los Muertos (beautiful, less busy beach) are just a quick jaunt away.
Highly recommend Villa Pcasso - we are already planning our return trip!!
We spent a week at Villa Pcaso and absolutely loved it. The owner and staff are wonderful. We were traveling as a family of 8.. two grandparents, two parents, and four children between the ages of 8-13. We would recommend this house for groups that don't need the fourth bedroom as the one on the lower level is not ideal for folks wanting fresh air and a view. The large glass doors need to remain closed due to being at ground level and there are no windows. Other than that, the top floors are amazing with terrific views on a very nice property. Folks with mobility issues should know they will be needing the golf cart (provided) as the hill gets steep.
Seven of us from Cleveland spent a week at Villa PCaso over the New Year week. It was
our 30th wedding anniversary and it could not have been better. Tom helped us plan some outings prior to our arrival (go fishing, snorkeling and whale watching with Enrique) and gave us a name for a Taxi service that was always prompt. The house is awesome- see the photos on the website. When at Villa PCaso, we spent most of our time on the patio listening to music, playing games, swimming, eating, laughing and drinking. Each couple had their own comfortable bedroom and private bathroom with outdoor showers. The weather was perfect. We were so glad we were far enough away from the main Plaza to avoid the evening noise but close enough to walk to town or the beaches. Pepe was always available for answering questions and helping us get around. He made one dinner for us and it was truly the best of our visit. Thank you Tom and Pepe for giving us a memorable week. Not sure what we will do for our 40th...
My party arrived on one of the last flights into Puerto Vallarta, so we were a little worried that we would have trouble getting to the house at night after picking up the rental car, etc. NO PROBLEMA! Our car rental included a shuttle to their offices in Bucerias which was right between the airport and our destination. Perfecto! Our rental agents gave us maps and set us up for the easiest pick up and drop off rental ever. We used their directions and drove right to Sayulita. Made a short stop at a convenience store at the turn off, made it to town in the hustle and bustle of Sayulita in the evening. Could not figure out the street to the casa, called the house, NO PROBLEMA! Our host was down at the plaza in five minutes to show us up to his humble abode.
The house was magnificent at night, but when we woke in the morning, it was a spectacular feast for the eyes! We were in the penthouse suite with its soothing jungle tree-house appeal. As the sun began to rise over the bay, we were treated to the most beautiful colors and 360 degree views. We were giddy with our luck to be in such a wonderful place. It's as though the iguanas were queued to make a bit of noise in the tree branches outside our windows as a perfect wake-up call and greeting to Sayulita!
All of the rooms were unique, had open air outdoor showers and really comfy beds! Our host has an eye for the perfect artistic touch at each turn on the property, it's very fun to see what's waiting for you around each corner!
We spent most of our time enjoying the house, the use of the kitchen and pool. We ventured into Puerto Vallarta for an afternoon and enjoyed the old world charm of Viejo Vallarta. We chartered a local fisherman to take us fishing a couple of mornings from the beach in Sayulita (less than five minutes down the hill). We took a Sunday drive up the coast to neighboring San Pancho and Guayabita. All worth the while for the short adventurer. In San Pancho, we were greeted at our van by folks with trays of doughnuts. Who can say no to curbside doughnuts? Not this group!!
August may not have been the best time for the fish, but we certainly had fun cruising back and forth along the most beautiful Pacific coastline from Sayulita to Punta de Mita. We are all trying to figure out how and when we will return. We have our hearts set on more relaxation and exploring more of the area.
Next time, fish, you're ours!
I had never been to Sayulita before, but all over Mexico: Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, D.F., etc. but I finally found that sun kissed, margarita infused happiness that i had always been looking for. Saylulita is a paradise. Whether you are an artist or a movie the simple elegant and authentic lifestyle that the town emanates can not be explained, it needs to be experienced.
Far and away the best place to experience this magic is at Villa Picasso. Your private oasis is short walk from the center of town and beach when you want it, and a private sanctuary when you don't. There were so many great moments its hard to pick just one so i will review a few:
Most beautiful sunset off the roof
Prepared Homemade breakfast (by Pepe)
Homemade margaritas (by Pepe)
Late night swimming in the private pool after a night of salsa
Day trip to san pancho
I really can not say enough good stuff about the house, the town, the owner and staff that are at the place. You will love it. don't think just book, and be prepared for an amazing trip.
PRIVACY.. PRIVACY.. PEACE AND QUIET... not noisy here AT ALL.
( North side of Sayulita is noisy, and a dusty 10 to 15 minute walk to town. from Villa Pcaso? 3 to 5 minutes to the town square, and beaches! )
VILLA PCASO is very close to Villa Amour, and Don Pedro's wedding party facilities.
