About Stephanie & Olaf Richter
Hi there. We're a young active family who values creativity, authenticity, the smell of a campfire and a push to the summit. During the week, you'll find us rushing around in the city and trying to raise 2 little perfect humans. On the weekends, we try to stretch out, exhale deep and take advantage of the rich Colorado backcountry.
Stephanie & Olaf Richter purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Stephanie & Olaf Richter chose Alma
Stephanie and Olaf chose this property to make it their weekend adventure getaway and to raise a family amidst the great outdoors. Camp Sherman has been an integral part to our Colorado high mountain experience, and offers a deep connection to mountains, wildlife, the stars and, in a way, our existence.
What makes this Cabin unique
Camp Sherman is an authentic hand-built, off-the-grid log cabin that is situated in the middle of a 10-acre parcel of land. The entire South Park Valley has been designated as a Natural Heritage Center due to it's rich mining and pioneer history. It's also unique in that the valley floor is at 10,000 feet, which makes for great daytime temperatures when the city is roasting. Camp Sherman itself is situated at 10,200 ft, which is the very low spot of the Valley of the Sun. Being off-the-grid in an authentic log cabin allows for a unique and deep connection to nature and a simpler way of life. As much as we love the coziness of a roaring fire in the fireplace, we also appreciate a good movie and solid wifi. Modern tech made it possible, so you get to enjoy both the solitude of the setting, along with tech-enabled creature comforts of wifi and Netflix.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was great. The cabin was wonderful and we loved venturing out everyday in the trials and In the little towns. Colorado is a beautiful state and this little gem of a place did not disappoint. If you are looking for an off grid getaway then I highly recommend this property.
My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and we couldn't have been more thrilled. It was exactly what we were looking for. This cabin is such a gem and a great place to be if you are looking for an escape from the city life. We cannot recommend this place enough. Can't wait to visit again!

Beautiful Mountain Getaway
This is a great property. Very cozy interior and beautiful scenery. We actually got nearly a foot of snow while we were there and it was absolutely magical. Highly recommend.
South Park is designated as a National Heritage Site due to the rich mining and pioneer history. A myriad of abandoned gold and silver mines can be explored by foot, mountain bike, dirt bike/ATV and Jeep, all throughout the dramatic backdrop of the Mosquito Range.
In Fairplay, don't miss the historic South Park City. A unique and authentic collection of real historic buildings, from mines to schools to train stations, which all have been transported there and reconstructed as part of an entire historic main street from the 1880s in painstaking detail.
The Mosquito Range is also home to 5 peaks over 14,000 feet. Mount Sherman, Mount Democrat, Mount Lincoln, Mount Cameron and Mount Bross. At the base of Mount Bross, above the town of Alma, you will find the unique Bristle Cone Sanctuary - featuring spectacular views of the South Park Valley and some of the oldest trees known to mankind.
On the way to the cabin, you will cross over the middle fork of the South Platte. It's headwaters, Montgomery Reservoir are just a few miles South below Hoosier Pass. Both the reservoir and the river itself provide excellent opportunity for Trout fishing.
