entire house on private lake
I'm not a Gershwin fanatic, but I loved being An American in Paris! in Venice, and in Lake Havasu! Atop the list of my best-days-ever are all those I've spent traveling; either abroad or here in the States. I've visited at least one place I've never been before, every year since 1992. Some years that's been with my husband & sons, sometimes with my parents & sisters and sometimes with dear friends, but ALWAYS in search of what's out there that's different! And... you know what?...They Can't Take That Away From Me!

Overall a great spot on Lake Sundown. No major issues with the house. Wifi seemed to be hit or miss but for the most part we had no problems. Thanks!
Our whole family had a great time.
We loved this place and made many memories! Hope to come back!!
You can’t use your own boat & cleanliness issues
You can’t go on this lake with your own boat and must drive to Rathbun. Owner does not provide dish or bath soap, or charcoal for grill. No window coverings even on bathrooms. Renters must wash all bedding and towels and they did not smell clean so last renters might have skipped that. Washer and dryer are stackable apartment size and washer has visible mold inside. Lots of bugs and cobwebs in house. Pots & pans are old and coated with grease. We won’t be back again.
Here is the email I received from the guests who stayed at The Lakehouse immediately following the group who posted the 2-star review:
I just wanted to reach out and say thank you so much for the use of the lakehouse. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
You have a lovely spot there and we'll for sure refer people to you :)
One of the days was too cold/rainy to be outside much, but we played some cards and spent time on the balcony. Again, thank you so much! Looking forward to speaking to you again soon.
....not every property suits every guest, it's clear, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder!
Great family memories were made at the lake house
Our family had a wonderful time at the lake house. The kids and grandkids spent most of the time swimming, fishing, and boating right off the private dock. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking . We ate most meals at the house. The deck was nice off the back for enjoying nature. We enjoyed seeing deer out the back. It is quite a steep walk down to lake but not bad for the youngsters. Well worth it to have a fire and smores. There were plenty of places to sit outdoors. Lots of patio furniture. The biggest downfall to the house is it has no window treatments at all including in the bathrooms and bedrooms. The sun wakes you up early. The sun is pretty coming up over the lake. The other thing that we found different was we were expected to wash all the sheets and towels before we left. It was nice having a washer and dryer with all the swimming in the lake. Our family really enjoyed our time at the lake and I'm sure the grandkids will never forget all the fish they caught. Shelley thanks for letting us use your lake house.
It sounds like your precious family enjoyed "our happy place" almost as much as we do!
It brings us such joy when others share in our blessing! 😀
Thank you so much for your care-ful use of The Lakehouse!
Please come stay with us again sometime!
Be well & blessed!
Great lake but not easy access & you can tell its a rental
Prop does have great layout for spreading out large groups with various rooms and seating. Location on lake is wonderful, however, disappointing you don't have option to put boat on lake and property doesn't have easy access to get into the water other than from the dock and there's a lot of gravel roads to get to property. Prop listed it had 2 pull out couches in basement but could not determine how one couch pulled out. Furniture very old and many areas home is very dirty, no window curtains for privacy; several plug ins found that didn't work as well. Dryer is horrible at drying towels and that makes it very hard to get everything done with laundry for checkout requirement.
We needed a central location between Michigan and Nebraska for a joint vacation with our sons and their families, including four young grandchildren. We had a great time. The children enjoyed swimming in the lake, my daughter-in-law and grandson had good luck fishing, and it was a short drive to Rathbun lake and resort which offered many recreational opportunities.
The house had plenty of space and served us well as our base of operations. We loved our stay.
