About Maree and David Leonard
We are a New Zealand couple who have worked in the UK and Canada, and we have been grape growers in Marlborough, New Zealand’s largest wine producing region, for the last 26 years. We enjoy travelling, and as we have family living in Burgundy, we have visited annually for the last 10 years. Cycling through the vineyards, exploring the small villages and wine tasting are our favourite pastimes while we are in Burgundy We share our extensive experience of the area (restaurants, sightseeing, cycle routes, wine tasting) with guests in the comprehensive compendium.
Maree and David Leonard purchased this House in 2013
Why Maree and David Leonard chose Meursault
In 2013, we decided to purchase Ma Maison Meursault as our second home. It is perfect for us because Meursault is one of our favourite villages and it also is the village that David's brother lives in. Village life can be observed from a table at one of the adjacent cafes or a seat in the square under the 15 century spire of the church. Delicious produce to cook at home can be purchased from the weekly market and local shops; or you can wander up to one of the 6 restaurants around the square. Wine lovers will need no introduction to the wines of Meursault or the celebrated nearby villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet to the south, and Pommard and Volnay to the north. Wine tasting is available in the village wine shops and at the many local producers.
What makes this House unique
The house is spacious and has a lot of natural light. It is surrounded by vineyards and viticulture buildings creating a rural feel yet it is only 400 metres from the main village square. The street is very quiet, so when sitting outside you don't feel 'looked upon'. We have re-painted the interior and refurbished it comfortably as a place for us to enjoy with family and friends. We are also making it available for guests to experience the ambiance of this lovely ancient wine village and the delights of greater Burgundy. Access to the Voie Verte cycleway is within 200 metres of the house. This stretches from Beaune to Santenay via vineyards and wine villages. It also links with the paved cycleway along the Canal du Centre extending down to Chalon-sur-Saone.

Very nice place!
We loved the light, airy feeling of the house. Linens were nice but would have been good to have more than one towel person. Kitchen is really well equipped and comfortable couches. W/D high quality! The only odd thing is that the master en suite has the only upstairs toilet. The bathroom that serves bedrooms 2&3 is fine but no toilet. You must trek downstairs to the half bath at night! We managed of course but might be an important factor for some. Overall a great stay.
A lovely house
The house is well equipped and in a perfect location. It is very quiet. We will certainly return.
We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our house, and we would be happy to have you stay again in the future.
We have just returned our second holiday in Ma Maison, it really is a home-from-home. The house is well appointed and benefits from a sunny roof terrace. It has safe parking for one car, and is perfectly located for the restaurants and 'caves'. The owners, Maree and David, are lovely to deal with, and the whole experience of booking could not be more straight-forward. We have already booked it again for next year as we love it so much. Highly recommended!
Home away from home
This was our second visit to Meursault and it was wonderful to stay at Ma Maison again. It is always so welcoming. It was chilly, but the heating had been turned on for us. I think the only really bad day we had in Meursault was on the Sunday, freezing cold. 6 deg and drizzle. It turned out to be a blessing because Chagny market had hardly any junk (clothes, bags shoes etc.etc) Only the hard core; nurserymen, fruit, veg, cheese and charcuterie stallholders were there, along with children and others selling lily of the valley for May Day; our idea of heaven. Every other day there was bright sunshine which was lovely if we kept out of the wind.
We love the way the house is set up, it’s like coming home. ’Unlike other places we have stayed at there is always plenty of the essentials: pots & pans, cutlery, crockery and glass ware as well as laundry and kitchen products, the washing machine is easy to use, we’ve never bothered with the dryer. I like the fact that there is no TV, the Bose player is great, my ipad connected too it straight away and we were able to listen to music. Wifi works well.
The centre of the village is very close where there are excellent charcuterie, boulangerie, bars, pharmacy etc.The local restaurants are quite good but we prefer Le Terroir, In Santenay and the Bistro at Levenois.
We plan return again next year
Peaceful haven in beautiful Burgundian village
Really enjoyed our stay in this delightful house just a short walk from the heart of this beautiful village - renowned for it's fabulous white wines!
The house was very comfortable and well equipped, with everything we could need. The view across the road to the vineyard is lovely. We actually love the fact that the house is off the main road just down a lane, and thus lovely and quiet.
Meursault is truly a delightful place to stay with good local shops, beautiful buildings with typical Burgundian tiled roofs, a lovely church and some reasonable restaurants all within a short stroll. For an even better dining experience a short drive to Chagny or Beaune will fulfil your dreams.
Bruce and Anne were lovely hosts who met us and showed us around the house.
We have visited Burgundy many times before, but the house was definitely the best for comfort and convenience. We hope to be back soon!
Perfectly appointed and charming
This very clean and nicely laid out home has a very well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, reliable wifi, and was a perfect home for us for our annual week in lovely Burgundy. We were within easy walking distance to morning fresh bread and pastries and local ham and cheese for lunch or light dinner. Just a short drive from Beaune, and other favorite villages, the location was excellent. The Leonards were wonderfully responsive and informative. We'd highly recommend Ma Maison Meursault.
Wine lovers will need no introduction to Meursault`s fine wines, or the celebrated nearby villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet to the south, and to the north Volnay and Pommard. Beaune is a 10 minute drive; Chalon-sur-Saone 20 mins; Dijon 45 mins, and Lyon 1h 15mins.
If you enjoy cycling, within 200 metres of Ma Maison Meursault you can access the Voie Verte (Green route). It is a cycle route that stretches from Beaune to Santenay via vineyards and villages, and it also links to the cycle route along the Canal du Centre extending down to Chalon-sur-Saone.
