Wonderful Location on the WY/ID Boarders on the Quiet Side of the Tetons

  • 4 of 5

This location is right on the Idaho side of the ID/WY boarder. The Idaho side has wonderful fishing, is very quiet during the summer, inexpensive golf ($9 for 9 holes a mile away) and is less than an hour away from the chaos of Jackson's Hole.

The owners just started working with VRBO and are just working out the kinks but I can see myself returning to this location in the future.

Thanks.

Well furnished with all you need, but...... beware of a few possibly hazardous issues...

  • 2 of 5

The unit looks very clean and well maintained at first glance. You have all you need in the fridge and the kitchen, as well as the 2 bathrooms. The unit faces a bushy and forestry exterior and the main door leading to the external grounds is locked permanently.

The washer-drier is tucked inside the bathroom attached to the master bedroom. Hence it cannot be used when the bathroom is occupied.

We were 2 families, and my family stayed in the master bedroom which has a single king size bed. So I cannot comment on the other room.

The master bed looked to be clean, but the sheets and pillow covers smelt of prior usage (did not smell washed or fresh). We still used the same without bothering much. After the first night, we noticed a few mosquito bite like marks on my 2yr old daughter's body and legs. We did not think much about where they came from, since we were visiting Yellowstone the whole day, and it may have been something from the national park.

However, when we found more marks and itching on her legs the 2nd morning, we decided to take a closer look at the bed sheets for bugs.

On taking closer look, we found 2 small spiders crawling on the bed!!

We were so devastated and traumatized for our daughter, thinking she had to sleep through the bites for 2 nights. Why did we not check earlier?

I have taken pictures of both the spiders as well as the bite marks. When I sent them to the owner, she replied very lightly that those are harmless and the bites are mosquito bites.

We did not see even one mosquito during our stay.

Since there are no options to attach images here, I am not able to attach them.

If you are planning to stay here, please make sure you check the beds and sheets to make sure they are cleaned and bug/insect free.

Even though I liked the unit very much, this one incident has compelled me to give a lower than average rating/review.

Clean and spacious

  • 4 of 5

Great place to stay, but not perfect. First the little problems we encountered. We did not receive the check in information which should have had the unit number and entry code. We landed up making urgent calls to the property manager and VRBO, and it was taken care of quickly. To be fair, we were busy before the stay and should have investigated this earlier. The towels were very linty in one bathroom, which was difficult for a contact lens wearer. Water pressure was low at one bathroom sink. The good. Big, comfortable, clean space with full kitchen and nice family room. Very quiet complex during our stay and close to the mountains.

We did not stay in this residence--we were swapped to another somewhat similar condo

  • 3 of 5

The original location looked great so we booked it. The property management team double booked us. Not the end of the world as they manage multiple condos, but trying to communicate with the manager was extremely difficult. I had to make multiple phone calls to get one returned. The worst communication I've ever had from a VRBO rental. Normally, we get a reply within hours. We were only a couple of days prior to making the reservation, but that should not have had an impact on communication. Seems like an additional duty someone is doing while they do their regular job, but still calling himself the manager.

Aside from the communication which was horrible. The location of these rentals is on the complete opposite side of the Teton National park. I think the description said 19 miles from the park. The only way you are 19 miles is if you hike directly to the park over the Teton Mountains. It is a solid hour from the resort to TNP and that is assuming the pass is open. You're about 40 minutes from Jackson. The price was nice and we did not mind the drive, it just was not what we were expecting. For the low summer price, we probably would still have stayed in the resort as it was much cheaper than staying in Jackson, we would have just been mentally more prepared for making the daily drive.

The condos themselves were clean and comfortable. We were "swapped" from a condo with a queen room and 2 double beds plus a pullout to one with 2 queens and a pullout. Missing a bed makes a huge difference. We were unable to get any contact with the manager on our arrival night to solve the issue. When we finally got someone the next day, the response was "there's a sofa pullout...that's just like a bed." They did refund us some money, but again, we had to chase that down.

Summary, nice condos. Be prepared to chase down answers, your emails and phone calls will not get returned quickly...keep calling. Good location to save money for lodging for GTNP, but be prepared to drive. Very little late night dining in the local town...plan ahead and eat in Jackson or at the condo.
