About Christy Barnett
Chris and John moved to the Big Island in 2006--to be closer to nature and year round outdoor climate, get away from the hustle and bustle of the NJ/NY metro area, and to be closer for John's business trips to Asia and Australia. Since then, John is semi-retired and spending his time training and doing triathlons. Chris works part-time for an organization supporting a fulfilling life for those with developmental disabilities. She also is into healthy living with exercise, eating local produce and meditation. Both John and Chris like to snorkel, hike, garden, attend live theater, movies, cook and dine out. And we love to share what we know about this beautiful island, it’s vendors, restaurants, and hidden treasures.

Why Christy Barnett chose Kealakekua
We chose the Big Island after many years of visiting Kauai, Molokai and Maui with our grown children. Our daughter lives in Alaska and our son in NJ--so we would often vacation in HI to give us all a change of scenery. After 10 years visiting we decided to look into living in HI and the Big Island was our only choice: large enough to not feel like we were on an island; rural enough to have agriculture and small farms; a new culture with a history of its own to explore and understand; mostly full time residents vs. vacation only residents.
What makes this Apartment unique
What we like about our home is the elevation at 1300 ft.--no need for AC or heat. It’s just 15 minutes from Kona / a larger shopping area. The neighborhood is home to year round residents from various ethnic backgrounds: Hawaiian, Japanese, Philipino, and mainland US. Our local neighborhood has groceries, restaurants, coffee shops, the Aloha Theater, post office, and West Hawaii Community Hospital. As mentioned before, it’s a very short drive to two of the premier snorkeling sites on the West side where dolphins are frequently encountered. Also close are 3 of the most frequently visited sites on the island: Kealakekua Bay with its Captain Cook memorial, and the City of Refuge or Honaunau (National Park). One additional attraction is the Paleaku Peace Sanctuary with plants and artifacts from many parts of the globe that invite peace and beauty to all who visit.
