About Louise Abbott
Hola! My husband, Philip, daughter, Charlotte and I, Louise, live in Toronto, Canada. I am a Massage Therapist and Philip is a Project Manager. I grew up in England just outside London. My family loved to travel and my father enjoyed driving around Europe and exploring. I was raised to be a traveller. We were nomads who roamed around many countries with no actual plan. That's where the fun starts! Now my family and I love to travel and explore the World. Philip is first generation Canadian. His parents are from Ireland. His parents, like ours didn't have a lot of money to travel so they packed up the car and the kids and drove. Raised as Nomads who enjoy a good adventure Philip and I and our daughter have picked up the family traditions and continue to enjoy roaming & exploring wherever the wind takes us.
Louise Abbott purchased this House in 2017
Why Louise Abbott chose Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
We fell in love with Puerto Viejo on our very first visit in 2007. We were searching for wild and free and off the beaten track. We wanted adventure and peace and we found it in PV. In 2007 we took our 10 year old daughter with us on our first trip to Costa Rica. I was determined to find the coolest, funkiest, out of the way spot on the beach in CR which is how we ended up in Puerto Viejo. We flew into San Jose not knowing what to expect. Got in a car at the airport and went up to Arenal for a few days to explore the volcano. From that moment on we were smitten by the gorgeous lush countryside and people. We were in awe, the hiking, adventures and animals took our breath away. From Arenal we drove directly to a White Water Rafting Adventure completely catered to our 10 year old and her safety. We had a blast and from there they took us to our little house rental in Puerto Viejo. We arrived at our tiny little cabina on the beach and were in awe of the wild beaches and jungle all around us. It was amazing and breathtaking. The next day we walked the beach into Puerto Viejo where we found a great place for breakfast. As a family we did many local tours and zip lining and explored every corner of PV on our bikes that holiday. We were in love and for the next 10 years spent all our time travelling around CR and renting houses wherever we went. We then decided a few years ago that we could build the perfect house for us taking all the good points from the other places we've rented around CR. We looked at property for years. Some was too expensive, others we wanted and would offer on were sold to other people . We didn't find the right property until 2017. Ironically we'd come full circle and purchased our land right beside the first house we'd ever rented in CR. We then proceeded to design our dream house. We find our peace walking the beach in PV. We hope you do too.
What makes this House unique
We love Casa Luna Beach House because it's right on the beach. I adore sitting on our balcony listening to the waves and jungle sounds that surround us. We also love walking for miles on the beach in the early mornings with our feet dipping in and out of the surf. It's such a peaceful practice where we can reflect and unplug. The magnetic qualities of the beach and the healing qualities of the sea combine on Playa Negra, offering, I believe a profound healing energy. We built the house with this positive energy in mind. We love the Costa Rican way of living outside so we designed our deck and balcony to enjoy the views and sounds of the jungle and sea. The living room and kitchen are open concept. Slide back our doors and the whole living space connects to the outdoor balcony which has it's own seating area and dining room table. The bedrooms have their own bathrooms and are air conditioned because, we found, that sleeping in the heat is sometimes difficult so we added a bit of North America to our design. We added our plunge pool to offer additional ways to keep out of the sun and cool off during the day. Most of the outside areas are fully shaded but we did leave a few spots for those sun worshippers to hang out in. You can walk to Puerto Viejo on the beach in 20 minutes. We love to walk in the morning into town and get breakfast at one of the many delicious places offering early morning service. If you have a car the drive is 5 minutes to town. You also have the option of grabbing the local bus or hiring a taxi or tuk tuk to take you back and forth. We love to rent bikes from Banana Azul just down the road and ride around exploring the area. We believe we've designed a superior home that offers the best of all the Costa Rican home designs in the area. It's luxurious and comfortable offering North American comforts which are often lacking in other rentals in the area. However, we haven't sacrificed the Costa Rican life style either. Enjoy!

The beach house was very nice and clean. Location is great and everyone very friendly. Privacy was the only thing lacking because the owner and/or caretaker was on the property hanging out by the pool area a majority of the time we were there. Also for the price we paid a tv wouldn’t hurt. Lastly there was garbage piled up right next to the house for the entire time we were there. Not the owners fault but as much as they were hanging out by the house trimming plants,etc..they could have cleaned it up a bit.
Hello Jason, Thank you for staying with us at Casa Luna Beach House. Philip and I own the house and live full time in Canada. We decided to forgo the TV in our home to enjoy our paradise completely but do offer high speed internet so our guests can link to Netflix, movies or TV on their own devices anytime they'd like. We don't include TV on the listing either so you are made aware of this before you arrive. As for the garbage we apologize for that. During the busy season we are having some difficulty with neighbours dumping their garbage on the corner near the house before it is collected. Our personal house garbage is separated, composted, recycled and put in a container for pick up and is not a part of this.
The good news is that we will be having this garbage removed weekly at our own expense to make sure this doesn't happen in the future.
As for our gardener, we are in the process of building our garden back after renovations and will be more careful in the future to make sure that the landscaping crew and staff are not seen.

Absolutely beautiful beach house on Playa Negra
Casa Luna is all that you could ask in a vacation rental. Well situated across the road from the beach, the property is new and clean. The design of the house has been well thought out to ensure that there is room for everyone. On the second floor there are two identical bedrooms (with A/C) and bathrooms so that each couple has their own private space. The kitchen is well-equipped for dining in (grocery stores in town stocked with everything you need) and there is a very comfortable couch. The room has high ceilings and there is lots of light from the wall of sliding glass doors that opens onto the balcony where there is lounge sitting and a dining table with a killer view. Downstairs there is another bedroom & bathroom, more chairs, hammocks & recliners for lounging and a perfect sized plunge pool for cooling off. The property has a wall around it and a gate that locks so we felt very comfortable and secure.
The property manager Nina is right next door to address any questions. We rented bicycles from Banana Azul which is just down the beach and enjoyed our days visiting the other beaches, the Jaguar Rescue Center and checking out many of the excellent dining choices in town which is about ten minutes away by bike. Coming back to Casa Luna following these adventures was a treat.
This is one of the nicest, most comfortable vacation rentals we've ever stayed at and we would definitely stay here again on a future visit to Puerto Viejo.
Hello Catherine, thankyou for the lovely review. We try so hard to make our guests feel special and are so happy you loved the house and Puerto Viejo. It's a very special place to us and we want to share it with guests who enjoy comfort and design in the beach while enjoying everything Puerto Viejo has to offer. Please be sure to come back and hang out again soon.

Great place to stay in Puerto Viejo
Property was very nice. It was a short drive from the center of town or about a 20 minutes walk. The house was very well maintained and space was great. Only comment is the pool is plunge pool so it’s small. The beach is literally a 5 second walk from the front door. It’s a wonderful house. Nina the manager is awesome. Could not be nicer. Thanks for a great stay. Pura Vida
Thankyou for the lovely review. We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay. We all work very hard to make your stay comfortable and easy. Nina is amazing and we love her too. She's a dear friend and we are very lucky to have her manage our home for us. Please come back and see us soon. Pura Vida
Pura Vida Perfect!
We had a wonderful time at Casa Luna Beach House! The location is perfect for the travelers that want to be away from the noise of the city but close enough for easy access. Nina was friendly and helpful. The house is just as described, and simply beautiful! We loved floating in the plunge pool after activities around Puerto Viejo every day. I already miss hearing the ocean lull me to sleep every night. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
Amazing house with all the necessary amenities and more. Would highly recommend!
Erin, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We hope to see you again.
We love to staying here and will be back again. Nina was always so helpful and available to answer any questions we had. We love being away from town but close enough to get to all the things We wanted to do.
Thankyou Anthony it was a pleasure to have you stay. Please visit again soon.
Case Luna Beach House is just outside the Caribbean Boho town of Puerto Viejo which is located on the South East coast of Costa Rica. Puerto Viejo is 5 hours drive from the city of San Jose. Your options to get here (which we can help you organize) are a shared shuttle, private shuttle, renting a car or flying from San Jose into Limon (Flights on Sansa Air). To drive will take around 5 hours and to fly will take around 3 hours (including check in, flight, baggage pick up and airport shuttle from Limon to PV which is around 40-60 minutes). Our property manager, Nina, will be happy to help you book one of these options. Puerto Viejo has a hippy, caribbean vibe. It's very laid back and simple however the restaurants are amazing no matter where you decide to eat. Restaurants cater to all tastes and price points so don't worry, you'll find what you're looking for here. You can do a lot or chose to do as little as possible here. There are many tours and guides available to do anything you want or you can kick back and unwind and do nothing but enjoy the sunshine and beach. It's completely up to you. Pure Vida is what Puerto Viejo is all about. There are 2 large grocery shops in town, liquor is also sold everywhere. There are excellent bakeries, ice cream shops (gelato) and restaurants in town. There is even an excellent chocolate tasting shop that represents all the local Cacao farmers who produce their own chocolate. I recommend the rum pairing! Delicious. There are a few clothing shops in town (we have our very own designer, Luna May who has an array of unique and amazing dresses and outfits). There are also a few art shops in town that feature local artists. Nightlife? It's here if you want it. Town gets hopping on Friday and Saturday night. There is an amazing local organic farmers market every Saturday morning right in town. If you're around don't miss it. Our favourite restaurants are Koki Beach, Stashu's Con Fusion, Salsa Brava, Bread and Chocolate (great for breakfast and lunch), Tierra Madra, Lazy Mon (bar on the beach - great for a beer and lunch) Johanna's Soda (excellent fresh red snapper) and Pan Pay (breakfast and bakery) and Salina's. There are so many more but these are our most fav. When we are here we always visit The Jaguar Rescue Mission, The Ara Project (McCaw feeding), Manzanillo National Park and beach (don't go on a National Holiday as it's full of locals enjoying the sunshine and gets really crowded). We enjoy SUPping and Kayaking on the river as well as walking the beaches. Riding bikes and exploring the roads and beaches in the area is fun too. My favourite spa is Pure Jungle Spa - don't miss the chocolate facial or body scrub (ahhhh). Caribbean's chocolate tour and tasting is not to be missed. If you want to know how to make organic chocolate and see how it's done, this tour is it! Puerto Viejo is a magical, unique place that is slow paced, relaxed and Pura Vida. If you want to unwind, enjoy life and spend time soaking in the Costa Rican life style then this is the place to be.
