Keywords: Beach House
Walk out the door, cross the lanai, and you are on the beach and in the water!
House has full kitchen & lounging areas up and down, plenty of water eqpt, coolers, gas grill, roomy parking, outdoor (exposed) shower and washer/dryer, and several deck/patio areas up and down. The 5 BRs/3 baths are comfortable and clean.
From the beach is a distant view of Honolulu and Waikiki. Each morning we watched the sunrise over the city and Friday night watched the Waikiki fireworks, although we couldn't see much detail.
It is about an hour's drive to the North Shore or Windward coast. Shopping (grocery/other) and restaurants are located nearby, even a malasadas truck.
Being near Pearl Harbor, military & commercial planes and ships steadily arrive/depart, but the noise is not a factor since the waves pound the beach. (Loved sleeping to that sound!)
While an older home, it is clean and updated. The décor is, as expected, beachy.
I would recommend the house, but be aware there are some drawbacks.
1. This is a residential section and some of the area is rundown. We didn’t have any serious problems, but some concerns.
2. Morning and evening traffic is heavy. Get caught in the traffic and easily spend 1-2 hours getting to/from sites.
3. The only a/c is in 3 bedrooms. Open the windows and trade winds blow through. But temps in the low 90s made cooking uncomfortable. (After turning off the a/c when away, it was warm when we returned. But, there was always the windy lanai to sit on or the water to jump into!)
4. There is a public beach access alongside the deck/lanai area. That affected privacy somewhat, but wasn’t a real problem. Even with others using “our” beach, it wasn’t crowded until the weekend.
5. The sand is partially covered by vines. The vine produced pretty little flowers, but I didn’t care for it. Also, a large tree in the center of the lanai, while offering great shade, blocked the view and littered the deck. There is nice patio furniture, but we didn’t feel comfortable eating out there because of all the droppings from the tree and the birds!
6. From upstairs, to the beach required going through a downstairs bedroom or out the front door and around the side of the house.
Overall, it was nice. If not expecting luxury and frills and getting out later in the day (or not at all), this is a good place. Laurie and Danielle were great and checked on us throughout our stay, even brought us a scrumptious Chocolate Haupia Cream Pie. We enjoyed our stay.
We stayed at this vacation beach home for 8 days. It was the first time in 27 years my wife and I vacationed with all our daughters in Hawaii. If not for the main reason for our trip, it was very relaxing and enjoyable for our family. Nightly visits by local monk seals or daily sightings of sea turtles only added to the great time we had sitting out on the deck. I grew up hanging out on this portion of the shoreline boogie boarding, skim boarding, surfing or just kicking back. It was like stepping back in time. Mahalo to Danielle and Laurie!
Our family stayed at this most wonderful property for 9 days and it was absolute heaven. I have never been more comfortable and relaxed and we all said the same thing we relaxed immediately as the calm surroundings sitting outside listening to the crashing of the waves on shore. None of us wanted to leave. Laurie and Danielle and all the people involved with this property couldn't be more warm and welcoming and would do anything to ensure your stay was memorable and it was. The ambience and surroundings were breathtaking. The layout of the house is spectacular, if you need some space there is somewhere to go the living room upstairs, the lanai upstairs. Room galore. There was 10 of us all ages and everyone had a great time. My two youngest granddaughters 4 and 5 ask me every week can we go back to Hawaii. They had a fantastic time and their parents were able to relax and not stress over the kids because the sand was right beside the back patio and they could play and run around and we were always outside so we all could keep an eye on them. Tons of places near by to go snorkeling, or visit the Dole Plantation and the Cultural center and as I am writing this review I am already thinking about planning our next trip hopefully next year back to this wonderful home
This has been our second time of staying at this beach home. We had my sister and her kids visiting from Calif. They haven't been back to the island for 5 years (my sister) but her son it's been 20 years and it was a BOMB meeting up with his cousin....And my father had a great time with his Ohana along the beach sleeping up the Signature Tree. Everything was just perfect on ALL accommodation and how clean the home was during our clean-in. But it was too short for me due to my responsiblity back on the Big Island. Will see you again and Much Mahalo for a GREAT STAY.
Aloha, Aloha, & Mahalo to Danielle, Darla and Laurie,
Our families had a fantastic time in your beautiful, oceanfront, 5 bedroom home. The most wonderful feature that we noticed immediately, was the beautiful tradewinds. The house was spacious, with a lot of room for individual time. We had a total of twelve (12) persons, and still not feeling crowded. Uses of the facilities (both downstairs & upstairs) was ideal for our group. The front patio deck area and shade tree was ideal for keeping a close watch on the children, who basically lived in the water. The location was an ideal starting point to the various "GoOahu"
activities planned. Any planned return to this beautiful home, with a large family group would be a no brainer.
Where do I start with this great family oriented home. Let's start with the basics. Parking because this is a large house to accommodate a large family or two, we were able to park 5 cars there during one period with no problems. Location, this is in a neighborhood away from the tourists, but has everything you need close by. The home has all the necessities for cooking and laundry. The laundry is a big benefit when traveling these days. Neighbors, you have both residents of the area and guests like yourself enjoying this special area. Now let's get to the special area of beauty. The patio. This huge patio is where you will spend your time. You will eat there, and just sit there taking in the ocean. You will enjoy watching the ships leaving Pearl Harbor including submarines. Open the gate off the patio and you are on the beach. We also had a large Monk seal come up on the beach and visit for a couple of days. No big thing for the residents but it was for our grandkids. In closing this is a great place we have already recommended it to friends. Every day we would see a rainbow and watch the city lights at night. Also the staff was great contacting us several times during our 3 weeks to see if we needed anything and even brought us treats. I would recommend this to anyone especially families.
You will find Ewa Beach a great launching spot to go all over the island. As you head out of Ewa you may catch highways in all directions. Ewa Beach is a full service community with groceries, many different ethnic foods as well as national chains.
Koólina lagoons is just 25 minutes or so further west. This is favorite place to swim with total sand bottoms and calm waters. There is public beach access as well.
Costco and Walmart is just 15 to 20 minutes in nearby Kapolei.
When not in traffic the airport is about 20 minutes away. If you are catching a flight though give yourself plenty of time in case you do hit traffic.
The aloha Stadium swap meet is a good cultural experience and a great place to buy gift for you and you, your family and friends.
Pearl harbor is also very close by as well. We have the Waikele outlet malls just a few exits away. My family loves to get Malasadas at the Leonard's truck in Waikele shopping area.
Catch the H2 an easy way to the North Shore. Stop at the Dole Plantation. It is a nice place to pick up some local treats, see the trade of Pineapple farming, try the Dole Whip.
As you continue to the North Shore you will want to stop by historical Haleiwa town. If you did not get full of sweets at the Dole Plantation, you must stop by Matsumoto's Shaved ice in Haleiwa. My family loves to eat at Killer tacos but there are also many good restaurants to choose from if you are in the area around lunch or dinner.
For the adventurous, jump at your own risk off the rock at Waimea. This beach is seasonal for swimming. Many times there is a strong under tow and other times it is absolutely perfect.
Waimea Falls is a beautiful easy walk through a botanical Garden laden with many Hawaiian culture information. You may swim in the falls if the conditions are favorable. They can let you know when you enter the park.
Has you go around the island you will see beautiful scenery of mountains and ocean coming together.
China Mans hat is a fun stop to get pictures. The Kualoa Ranch is fun with different tours you can do. I did the movie tour with my daughter once. If you have a movie buff in the family you may want to stop there.
My visiting family did the tour at the Macadamia Nut Farm and said it was really worth is and a nice cultural experience.
Laie Point is a nice place to get some pictures. It is tucked away in a residential neighborhood. Put is in your GPS you will find it.
One of my favorite beaches on the island is Lani Kai Beach. Another one you will have to put in your GPS. It is next to Kailua beach. You have to park in the neighborhood on the side of the road. Just pray for parking. We rented a paddle board at the nearby surf shop and put it on our car and brought it to Lani Kai. It was a fun experience for all who were willing to try and fun for those who got to watch as well.
You will want to take a loo at the Pali lookout. Hold onto your hat or leave it in the car. It is very windy but it is very nice birds eye view.
I do not suggest seeing the whole island in a day. Do it in parts and really enjoy it.
I have heard one of the best Luaus is in Sea LIfe Park. I do know that on the West side Paradise Cove and Germaine's Luau is near to the house. I suggest Paradise Cove because of Location and the before dinner activities.
Waikiki is great for High end shopping, Night life and fine dining. We recently went to the Top of Waikiki for dessert for my daughter's birthday and enjoyed the revolving restaurant. We have gone for a walk up Diamond Head and enjoyed the views. It is a nice walk with many stairs. You do have to be somewhat fit but not a star athlete. It is best to go early. Take water and sunscreen.
Evenings are fun in Waikiki for street entertainment. On Friday nights there have fireworks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
There are so many things to see and do around the island. If you wish to have a relaxing day at the house you are less than a minute walk away. If you have jet lag and you are up early take a cup of coffee out and watch the sunrise over Diamond Head.
I have heard on a number of occasions from our guests over the years that it is Oahu's best kept secret. You will love the quiet uncrowded beaches and views of Daimond Head and sunsets in the evening. Many talk about how friendly the neighbors are.
I do hope you choose one of our homes.
