Clean, cozy, welcoming and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, our two kids, my mother-in-law and her sister stayed here because my brother in law was getting married at the Hidden Meadow and Barn. It's a quick drive so it was easy to keep with day's schedule (which had us back and forth in quite a bit!). This was our first VRBO experience so I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. I found the process to be more simple than a hotel transaction! The house was very welcoming. Really clean with thoughtful touches every where you looked. If you forgot something there was a really good chance it was available in the house. There is a gas station down the street for quick milk runs (or some coveted Spotted Cow), it's close to town and the water. Everyone had their own space so we weren't under each other's feet. Even the neighbors were outwardly friendly. We didn't get a chance to use the fire pit but the back patio is really inviting! It was tempting to start one up after the wedding Saturday but it was so late we had to take a raincheck. After checkout, half of our group headed over to the Harbor View Cafe and enjoyed a scrumptious lunch. We felt so at home for our short 2 night stay. We hope to return soon when he can spend more time in this quaint little WI jewel!

Loved the Pepin Lake Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a wonderful stay at the Pepin Lake Retreat! We loved being so close to our friend's wedding venue at the Hidden Meadow and Barn, begin able to walk to downtown to get dinner, and the great outdoor patio space and fire pit. The home was sparkling clean and Susan provided some great advice on things to do in her booklet. My only advice is to bring your own beach towels if you plan on hitting the water. Thank you Susan for such a great trip, we wish we could have stayed longer!

Very picky

  • 3 of 5

Clean location. But very picky owner. Challenged how many people stayed at location (didn’t believe me because 9 spoons were used?!) I use more than one spoon in a day! and charged half of deposit. Very frustrating when I commmunicated the number of people. We have a huge family and lots of back and forth between rental units for my brothers wedding. :( I have stayed in hundreds of VRBOS etc and never have been challenged like this and always receive my deposit back.

Owner's Response: Hundreds of VRBOs? Wow, you must travel a lot. I sure wish you would have stayed at my property. We had such great communication back & forth right up to the day of check in, but not once did you mention you wouldn't be staying there. I think your complaint should be with YOUR guests who did stay there. I don't have any more rules or expectations than any other property owner. 1. Check out at 11:00 - your guests stayed until around 1:00 2. Please lock all doors when departing - patio door left open. 3. Turn thermostat up to 80 degrees upon leaving - your guests turned the thermostat to hold at 70 degrees. 4. Do not steal - Your guests removed property from the house 5. Please load dishwasher & push start on your way out & I'll put the dishes away. Please wash dirty pots and pans - dirty pan sitting on the counter & the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes. No spoons....not sure what that was about? But there were 9 plates, 9 forks, 9 dirty towels and 10 pillows used....hmmm I used to teach math and that doesn't equal 6, considering they only had time for 1 meal between wedding events. I showed up at 12:15 to clean and just the 15 minutes I was outside waiting, 7 people in 3 different cars, entered the house and loaded their cars with luggage. The last carload was taking their time so I finally left at 12:30 and told them I'd come back later. If I'm picky it's because I expect people to be respectful of other's property and to be honest. I knew you'd leave a bad rating because you were upset that I held back 1/2 of the damage deposit but I will not be taken advantage of like that. I will be using the money to replace the items that were taken and to pay the extra energy bill from the air conditioner running for 5 days at 70 degrees, until I noticed what had been done to the thermostat. I've never experienced renters like this and it's sad that people can be so disrespectful.

The owner was totally awesome and was very organized and helpful with questions. The house greatly exceeded our expectations. Roomy; comfortable; with a great back yard patio and fire pit. I would highly recommend this house if staying in the Pepin area

Extended Weekend Stay for College Bass Tournament

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights in July for FLW College Bass Tournament event. My son and other team members stayed with us during the event. The house worked out well. The management was very cooperative throughout and the house itself was outstanding. We enjoyed coffee in the morning by the outdoor fire pit and the main level of the house was well furnished and beautiful. Owners are currently remodeling the lower level, but the partial finish work did not bother the boys as they were ready to crash after spending full days on the water. The neighbors were extremely friendly and we enjoyed meeting many of them throughout our stay. Very quiet neighborhood - a few blocks off the main drive through town, but close enough to walk at night to the cafe and bars in town. My wife and I played golf during the day while the boys fished - loved "the Jewel" on the other side of the river. Picked up a few nice things while shopping in Stockholm.
