Lovely part of the world.
We enjoyed our time here very much and will be back. Kitchen was very well equipped. Owner very helpful when required.
We loved our stay at the Old Bakehouse for endless reasons! The home and town feel to be straight out of a movie with lovely furnishings, and glorious bedding. It is perfectly appointed with all that is needed for an enjoyable stay. We feel we have a friend in Ros, were rescued by Ian (one of the Stonesfield townspeople) when our rental car agency in Oxford was closed (our advice: go through EuroCar instead of Budget!), and enjoyed the White Horse, a local pub. We found ourselves throughout our daily travels in the Cotswolds longing to be among the authenticity in Stonesfield. We missed our chance to see local archeological treasures and walk the local paths and look forward to a return stay! PS Rosamund makes amazing scones and strawberry jam!
Au delà de nos attentes!!!
Un accueil des plus chaleureux. Une grande tranquillité. Très bien situé. Un gros merci à Rosamund.
nice and cosy, owner very helpful
Nicely tucked away in the village, minutes away from footpaths,
Short distance from shop and good Pub, ample parking.
Sorry I missed Owner to say goodbye. Plough Pub in Finstock
outstanding, 15 minutes away . Cheers Patrick.
Beautiful and cosy, charming and clean!
We have had a lovely time in the Bakery house , we felt welcomed and would like to come back!
Beautiful walks from the house!
It was a pleasure to have Isobelle and her family staying in the Old Bakehouse, a delightful, friendly family who took great care of the cottage and left it in very good order. I would be very happy to welcome them back.
delightful, and just far enough afield from the madding crowd
Ros attends to every detail in her charming, masterful restoration of a 300+ centuries old bakery. Every item of tasteful decor had utility, from the furnishings, books, entertainment nooks, and kitchen that defies any master chef wanting a utensil. Want traffic congestion, tourist buses, rows of knick-knack shoppes, partying vacationers, and crowded restaurants? Then don't stay here; because what you'll find is an unspoiled Cotswold stone village with all the amenities you need for your true Cotswold experience, like a small grocer and authentic pub with locals. Ros is attentive and delightful, too! We loved our stay.
Thank you, it is gratifying to know that the cottage provides such a welcome retreat and the tranquility that so many people are searching for and yet so close to so many lovely places to visit. Also good to know that it has all the amenities to fully enjoy your stay.
Stonesfield is a tranquil village in a picturesque rural setting with rolling hills, woodland and rivers. It is well serviced with village grocery store, Pub serving food, Post Office and Hairdresser. It has a regular bus service and is only 2 miles from a railway station.
If you like old, pretty and historical places it is ideally situated for visiting Cotswold towns and villages such as Burford, The Gateway to The Cotswolds, a charming country market town with lovely old buildings, tea shops and a Wildlife Park.Woodstock is a ten minute drive away and is a pretty little Cotswold town with Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill and stunning grounds to walk in as well as a miniature train to take you to a Maze and children's play area. Other nearby typical old towns are Morton -in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water.
Oxford with its famous University buildings, libraries, theatres and parks is a 20 minute drive and Stratford-on-Avon is 40 minutes where you can visit William Shakespeare's Birthplace, go boating on the river or watch a play at the RSC Theatre or simply wander the streets and enjoy the Tudor timbered buildings and shops.
Stonesfield itself is a great area for walking with the Oxfordshire running past the cottage and a lovely walk through beech woods and fields to a Roman Villa.
If you are a keen shopper then Bicester Village, the famous outlet shopping centre, is a 20 minute drive away.
There are numerous places to eat in Woodstock with a variety of restaurants, cafe's, pubs and tea shops and also surrounding village pubs.
