About Steve & Jackie Holloway

Jackie and I live in Carmel, IN, and have visited Kiawah since 1976 when our children were in diapers. Now we bring our children and grand children [Granddaughter Mackenzie on the left in photo] on family vacations at least twice a year...great fun and memories.

Jackie and I love the beach, golf, maritime forest, nature and the absense of neon signs. We bought our first property in 1977 and have been visiting ever since. Kiawah Island is a treasure and metro Charleston offers the best restuarants in the South(USA?) in all price ranges.

What makes this condo unique

Children and adults alike are mesmerized watching the wildlife from the villa's back decks...alligators, snowy egrets, eagles, ospreys, bobcats, deer, turtles, blue herons and more. And watching the golfers approach the difficult 18th hole of Turtle Point golf course is always entertaining.

Perfect in Every Way!

This is our 6th year renting the Holloway Kiawah Island Turtle Point villa over the winter and we were blown away by the remodeling when we walked in this year! Everything’s new inside and out – flooring, furniture, kitchen and baths, paint, the comfort of a new HVAC, the list goes on... and it looks fabulous- - -truly a 5-Star rated villa. We particularly like the new comfy full size recliner in the great room. If it weren’t for all the amenities available on Kiawah we might never get outside. And the rear view of the expansive lagoon and Turtle Point golf course is the most scenic on the island. The Holloway’s are easy to work with too. Can’t recommend this condo enough as this is an opportunity to enjoy the Kiawah Island paradise in first class accommodations!

Hurricane Irma at Turtle Point Villas

While we are quite familiar with Kiawah, we had never stayed at Turtle Point Villas. I had always liked the look of them, and we were not disappointed. The owners, Jackie and Steve were hands on from the start, promptly answering any questions I had. The packet of information they sent was very thorough, and made check in a breeze. The units have some age on them, but made no difference in our stay. Everything was in working order, absolutely spotless,

very comfortable furnishings, great showers, and a well stocked kitchen. My only suggestion would be a large stock pot for shrimp boil, etc. It was nice to have paper towels, trash bags,

Napkins, condiments, etc. supplied as well. We loved the lagoon view, and watched Big Al,

A 10 foot alligator, all week long. Even with Irma bearing down on us, we had a perfect week of weather. All in all, it was a great vacation, relaxing, and hassle free. Steve and Jackie are doing a major renovation soon, and we can't wait to see the end result. My husband and I would definitely stay in these villas again. It was a pleasure. Many thanks.

Owner's Response: We love to hear positive comments from those who stay in our villa as well as suggestions that will improve visits in the future. A total renovation on the villa is planned to begin mid October and will be completed the end of December. Floors will be "Boardwalk Oak" throughout and all popcorn ceilings will be removed and freshly painted. Trim will be white and accented with neutral walls. The washer and dryer will be moved from the kitchen, creating more space for all new Bosch appliances, granite counter tops and white Shaker cabinets. We're excited and look forward to sharing the new digs with wonderful guests like Vicki H!

Take a pass on this unit for now.....

This is the first time I have given someone a two star review. This is the third time we have used VRBO at Kiawah and this was the only time we have been disappointed. You could tell from the pictures on VRBO that the unit is dated, and that is reflected in the price. The total cost was approximately $75 less per night than going through the resort under it's resort quality standard and it's various amenities.

Upon arrival there were cobwebs on the kitchen walls, the carpet was filthy, the unit was musty, two of the three bathroom fans didn't work properly, the AC sounded like it was coming through the bathroom ceiling, there was a big water stain on one of the bedroom ceilings, there were wet towels in the kitchen and there were at least 13 light bulbs out.

Had it not been 4th of July week and the island was full, we would have left. I reached out to the owners the next morning with the complaints. This was on Sunday. The cleaning service came back Monday. Maintenance and carpet cleaners arrived on Wednesday and the HVAC folks arrived on Thursday. Remember this is a Sat to Sat stay. During emails with the owners during the week, they explained that the unit will be updated Fall 2017, but that did not apply to our family.

As a gesture they did send us a gift card for $100 at the Santcuary. I want to be fair, but this unit in its current state should not be in the VRBO network and should never garner $3,400+ a week through the site.

Do yourself a favor and take a pass until the unit gets updated with a new kitchen, new flooring, furniture from the last 15 years and a fresh coat of paint. I have a number of photos from the week in that unit, but don't know how to post them to the review site. I gave it two stars to compliment the fact it was only a 5 minute bike ride from the beach.

Owner's Response: PLEASE FIRST NOTE: VILLA HAS BEEN TOTALLY RENOVATED!. Our 2018 renters will enjoy a beautiful Kiawah 5-Star villa! Make your reservations now as we always sell out in the spring and summer. THIS RENTER PROVED TO BE AN EXTORTION EXPERT. This is the first time we’ve received a negative review in 17 years. The renter emailed the day after his arrival with minor complaints: dust on a wall, one spider web over a window casement, a small spot on the master bedroom carpet, leaves on the deck [normal for an outdoor deck on an island in a SC maritime forest!], humidity in the villa and 2 towels had been left in error on the top of the washing machine by the cleaning crew. 3 days of rain preceded this renter’s arrival and everyone who visits or lives in coastal SC knows that the solution is to leave the HVAC on the continuous mode and the humidity level will be self correcting. As to the noise of the HVAC, the air handler is inside all the villas and will be more noticeable than if the unit were in a basement or garage. We re-cleaned the entire villa Monday morning with the renter’s permission and he responded “a great job cleaning.” Maintenance changed the bad light bulbs, HVAC was serviced and all the carpet was cleaned to demonstrate our over-kill attention. The renter is incorrect about the age of the furniture. Almost all is brand new. The renters pricing analysis is also incorrect . We keep our year-round rents at about a 35% discount to the Resort prices and exclusive of the add-on 8% amenity fee the Resort charges. Our rental savings in the prime summer months can be up to $1,500 per week. Also, he did not pay $3,400 in rent as he states, but $2,799, the additional dollars included the $150 cleaning fee, the HomeAway service fee and state and local taxes. We gave the renter a $100 gift certificate to the Sanctuary Hotel which he used and he seemed happy UNTIL the morning he left when he requested a refund. He mentioned he “had to be out of the unit on four different occasions,” which was untrue. Nobody has to leave to have light bulbs replaced or HVAC serviced, takes only minutes. All service visits were timed with the renter’s approval to cause minimal interruption. It came down to an extortion by the renter. We mailed a $150 refund to him in addition to a $100 Resort gift certificate we gave him while he was there which in total was not enough to satisfy him, and after which he posted his negative review...a classic case of extortion.

Kiawah Island

This property and Kiawah Island are very nice. We enjoyed the views from the condo's deck of the 18th green, watching the wild life (alligators, turtles, fish) and all good food available nearby. Traveling into Charleston is convenient and easy (35 min) with even more restaurants, history, tours and other activities. The owner provided us with plenty of information to plan our trip. A very livable condo for a family.

Great Vacation

Our family had such a nice time at this villa. It has great livable space. It is well-maintained and the owners are thoughtful and responsive. We appreciated all of the information the owners provided about what to do, where to eat, etc. especially since it was our first time to Kiawah. The villa has beautiful views of the lagoon and 18th hole at Turtle Point golf course. There is plenty to see just from the two decks of the villa. It's an easy bike ride to the beach in five minutes. We would love to rent again!
