Peacefulness and Natural Beauty. Enjoy the ambiance of old Hawaii from this quaint rental location. A narrow unpaved winding road leads to Moloaa Mahina Hale which is within a small beach community on Kauai’s Northeastern shore. Watch the Egret Birds return to their nesting grounds at rivers edge. View an abundance of stars from your private deck which is breathtaking on a clear night. Listen as you hear the waves crashing at nearby Moloaa Bay. Only a 5 minute walk or Kayak to experience one of Kauai most beautiful bays offering white sand beaches with shade tree protection, interesting tide pools and good snorkeling . Hike along a gentle pathway high above the oceanside to a bird sanctuary offering incredible views of Moloaa Bay and the coastline. You may see whales or dolphins playing in the bay.
Natural Environment Setting: A creative environment for individuals who seek peace and tranquility in their lifestyle. The setting is all natural with established tropical flora, fruit bearing trees and plantings. This location also has the natural wildlife sounds from the bellowing of the bullfrogs, numerous birds, wild ducks, and of course the famous and colorful chickens that are now sited everywhere on Kauai. Perhaps earplugs would be suggested for those who are light sleepers. Mosquitoes are limited due to the brackish water consisting of both ocean and fresh water.
No Air Conditioning: There is no air conditioning in this unit. We offer ceiling fans, portable Vernardo fans and the natural trade winds to help keep you cool. The hottest part of the day is between 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm We suggest planning your day outside the unit during this time period to avoid the discomfort for those who can't take the heat or take a swim in Moloaa Bay or kayak down the river to the beautiful Moloaa Bay that will cool you down with ocean breezes and large shade trees along the shoreline. For sun lovers, the deck is an incredible tanning location from early morning until late afternoon.
We offer Wi Fi Internet; Satellite Dish TV with commercial free musical stations. Enjoy TV in bedroom or living room. Enjoy native wild life surrounding this location and birds bouncing about in the enormous monkeypod tree offering shade and beauty to this site. The large deck has a table with two straight or reclining chairs and one lounge. A cold water washing machine is on the deck for added convenience with an outside clothes line for air fresh drying.
There are also lovely and relaxing reading locations on this property. Take your pick.
The spacious bedroom offers a king size bed with its own TV and ceiling fans and an exit door to the back lanai offering easy access in the night to star gaze just outside your bedroom. The bathroom has a tub/shower combination with good water pressure.. Some prefer the outdoor shower below with hot & cold water.
The living area has it's own TV with a sofa and two chairs, a small cozy dining table and a casual buffet counter. Like to read? Sit in the reading nook to enjoy the morning sun filtering thru the window across from the kitchen.
This was my first time to Kauai, and my boyfriend and I were looking for an "off the beaten path" location, with easy access to a beautiful beach (only a 2 min walk away - every morning we were at the beach). Our stay here exceeded all of our expectations. We woke up to the natural sounds of the jungle; roosters, birds, ocean waves. Yet still had access to great wifi and television if needed.
Just make sure you follow Linda's instructions (NOT GPS) on finding the house. GPS will take you to the END of Moloaa road. The correct way will take you off the cement road down a dirt road about a mile or so. It was an awesome adventure and another reason why we fell in love with this spot.
Moloaa Bay was very much centrally located. Only 15-20 minutes from Princeville/Hanalei Bay. We had booked a helicopter and Captain Andy's boat tour which were both in the South Shore, which only took about an hour (maybe hour and a half with traffic). Not bad at all...We ended up exploring the beaches in the south those days which were great - Shipwrecks Beach, Allertons Beach.
Our stay was more than magical and I would ABSOLUTELY love to stay here again!!
We enjoyed our stay so much that we didn't want to leave! The cottage is very comfortable and roomier than the pictures would suggest, with beautiful, lush surroundings. We loved being next to the river and paddling the kayak down to the beach which is lovely and never crowded. Enjoyed all the sounds-bull frogs, roosters, ocean-and miss them now that we're back home in New England.
Beautiful piece of property surrounded by jungle paradise. Close walk to the beach and short rugged driveway that gives the feeling of seclusion, though neighbors are within a safe distance. Tom and Linda were very helpful and we greatly appreciated their hospitality.
Would definitely stay again!
We just got back from a 9 day stay here and it was everything we were looking for and more. The location is quiet and close the beautiful Moloaa Bay. The house itself felt like a tree house in the jungle. We cooked most meals there and the kitchen had everything you could need. It was great having so many options, deck, lanai, river front to choose from to have a drink at the end of the night and listen to the jungle sounds starting up. We saw many shooting stars from the back patio and fell asleep each night to the sounds of waves off in the distance. The drive to the house was a little precarious the first night (pitch black) when we arrived, but after the first time, it was an adventure all in itself. We fell in love with Moloaa bay. It was never crowded and even in the winter there was great snorkeling off to the right side of the bay. We hiked to the left one day and watched whales breaching and turtles feeding all within a 10min walk from 'our' house. If you're looking to get away from it all, but still close to a beach and the North Shore, this is a great option.
Perfect get-away with a short walk (or paddle) from a beautiful uncrowded beach. We enjoyed getting up to the sounds of croaking bullfrogs and roosters. We were free to pick lemons/limes, oranges, and avocados on the property. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bed is extremely comfortable. It was nice having a washer available on the back deck and clothesline in a rain-protected area. It only rained one day in our almost two week stay. It was fun to have available the kayak for paddling to the beach. We loved seeing the egrets come in every evening. We do suggest finding the property in the daylight as it is "tucked away" at the end of a dirt road - but we found it easy to navigate once we knew how to get there. This was the perfect "jungle experience" - yet a nice central location to other sites on the island.
My wife and I stayed here for 5 days during Christmas week. What a fantastic place! We enjoyed the fresh avocados falling from the tree every day (if we got to them before the chickens;) and the beautiful landscaping that surrounds the house. It's really cool to stay in a house that hovers 2 stories in the air on columns... you feel like you are living in the trees. We enjoyed several breakfasts and dinners in the nice open kitchen. The bed is very comfortable. Moloaa Bay is gorgeous and rarely crowded. Only a few minute walk from the house or 5 minute paddle down the lagoon -- if you're quiet, you'll see several egrets hanging around, and frogs! The dirt road to the house is a little adventure in a small rental car, but all the better because it keeps the crowds away. The area is very quiet and lovely. There's a great hike to the left of Moloaa Bay, and if you're willing to continue through the ranch, we've heard you can walk all of the way to Larsen's Beach. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Moloaa Mahina Hale (House of the Lazy Moon) is unique because it is a rare and comfortable retreat for those seeking a private and somewhat secluded location. You can hear and smell the ocean but get only a tiny glimpse from your cottage which is only a stones throw away. Become part of the small community for your stay. You can take a short five minute walk to beautiful Moloaa Bay which is an interesting beach offering surfing, snorkeling, sunbathing and beach combing. Take an easy pathway to the north all along the Bay to where it ends at a fenced Bird Reserve. Due to limited public access and parking, Moloaa Bay is not very well attended making it one of the more private beaches on Kauai. You are 3 miles from the Anahola General Store providing sufficient convenience items. and is located next door to the Anahola Post Office and the Famous Ono Char Burger Stand. Moloaa is located half way between Anahola and Kilauea Town. You are only 10 minutes to the Sugar Mill Town of Kilauea and it's famous Light House rencently named after Senator
" Daniel Inouye " and Bird Refuse Center and 20 minutes away from Hanalei Town with lots of shops and restaurants and the beautiful Hanalei Bay. Drive out of Moloaa Valley to view other wonders of The Magical Garden Island
