About Chris Marino
We are the fourth generation of family to own this home. Continuing the families decision to settle in the "Pelham Bay" section of the Bronx, we continue to enjoy the privacy and accessibility of this area and this home. We love the seasons and the special outdoor activities of the 4 season in NYC. Were amateur local foodies too, so don't hesitate to ask or check out or guide to local restaurants and attractions.
Chris Marino purchased this House in 1950
Why Chris Marino chose Middletown - Pelham Bay
Our family arrived in the United States a century ago in search of a better place and a better life. Our NYC Hideaway is one of the final places where we call “Home”. Honoring our family’s decision to settle in New York City in search of a better life we look forward to sharing their vision with you. We look forward to having you as our guest while truly enjoying a better way of staying and appreciating your time in New York City.
What makes this House unique
Our fully fenced (6' tall fence with coded security lock) tranquil backyard garden, rich with vegetables, flowers, and grapevine; its a rare treat in a vacation rental. Enjoy sitting on our authentic Bronx "Stoop" made of genuine New York Mined Blue stone, you'll get to meet and appreciate how nice the neighborhood residents are, and you'll leave felling like your one of us. We look forward to hearing your "Bronx Tale" after your stay!

A Real Home Away from Home
Really Nice Clean Home, Wonderful Treats at the Beginning and at the End of Day...Better than a 5 Star Hotel! Thank you for everything!!!
NYC Hideaway is an awesome place to stay. Chris thought of everything when he decided to make his home into a rental for vacation. This is so much better than a hotel room. Everything in the apartment is new and updated. Central air conditioner and everything is clearly mark and the instructions are all in a book for getting around the apartment. There are no hotels that I know of with access to a backyard and a barbecue grill. You can pick lettuce and herbs from the garden & did I forget to mention that there is a fire pit as well! There is also the use of two bicycles for riding around in the area. The neighborhood was very quiet. If you have a rental car, no problem, there is plenty of parking and it is free. The area is safe, yes even at night. I sat on the front porch in the evening and in the morning with my cup of coffee. There are stores in the area in case you need something and some good restaurants. I found a supermarket and purchased groceries for the week. The kitchen comes fully equipped with everything if you'd like to whip up your own cooked/homemade meal. If I needed something, Chris was a text message away. He was able to help me get where I needed to go by car or train. Chris also recommended places to eat with a relaxing atmosphere. Chris, thank you so much for the great stay!! So if you are looking for a place to relax when visiting NY, I highly recommend the Hideaway in The Bronx.
Thank you so much for your very detailed explanation of our resort vacation home. Its our misson to ensure an amazing exerience everytime and with reviews like this it truly helps other travelers to see the difference of what we offer vs others. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to NYC.
Comfort in my old neighborhood
Upon entry you feel as though you've stepped into a scene from "Fixer Upper" and you are the lucky tenants of a beautifully remodeled home. The custom upgrades in the kitchen are hard to find in New York City and the large island provided a perfect "gathering" space for me and my family after a long day in the city. Chris provided tons of "amenities" from the welcome gift when you arrive, to the daily morning "travel snacks", the "just in case you forget toiletries" and small kitchen items to get your morning started. The location is perfect- sure it's a bit away from NYC - but it's 2 blocks away from the subway, hop on and ride about 40min and you're at Grand Central. There are plenty of stores around as well including a cvs and dunkin donuts for those late night needs. The space was so cozy and welcoming, immaculately clean, everything looks just as pictured in the ad and Chris takes care every morning and night to make sure his guests have everything they need. Highly recommend this stay to anyone traveling to New York who is looking for a comfortable home; great for families!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Its so important that Manhattan bound travelers understand how in New York its so easy to get in and then back out of Manhattan, and that they can stay in a beautiful spacious home where they can have so much more for less. I look forward to your next visit and your stay here at "NYC Hideaway". Best Regards Chris Marino "Inn Keeper"
I booked our stay here for Thanksgiving weekend, and enjoyed a soothing retreat for my husband and me, our two 20-something sons and the family dog.
From the outset, Chris was a very solicitous and personable host, offering suggestions for daily local activity, and recommendations for restaurants when asked.
This lovingly renovated 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment on the 2nd floor has a complete kitchen and spacious living room with high ceilings and soothing colors. Our host’s pride of place was evident from the moment we arrived and spotted the cheerful yellow potted mums on the front steps—it felt we were truly on vacation. A numbered key pad offers ease of access to the vestibule and separately to the gated back yard.
The beautifully appointed kitchen was simply perfect for our needs as we enjoyed this special and rare time together as a family. You can tell family is important to Chris, and I liked looking at the framed vintage pictures lining the walls.
Before our stay, Chris had suggested a place to have groceries delivered upon arrival, so breakfast and snacks were taken care of. After setting up the provided blow-up mattress, there was plenty of space in the living room for the 4 of us to hang out, even with the dog crate we brought.
There is street parking, and free is a good thing in NY—an unexpected perk. A transportation card was left for our usage, and it was a convenient subway ride to the city for only $2.75 per person.
Meticulous care was taken by our host to provide a great stay, and I’d love to return in more temperate weather to enjoy the back yard.
It was my pleasure having your family stay and I hope this home will become your new “NYChideaway”. Thank you so much for the kind words and yes family is very important to me! Those black and white nostalgic photos that you had mentioned were taken of my family almost 100 years ago and feature life in the Bronx and weekends at the beach here in Pelham Bay. You would love our garden “between May and October” and follow us on social media as we transform the property into a winter holiday theme in early December. I would be honored to host your friends, Family, and of course Symbol anytime that you visit NYC.
Great location and awesome service!
This place was great and the service was top notch. Chris, the owner, really goes above and beyond to ensure you have a memorable stay in NY. He is full of recommendations for food and activities in the area. He also makes himself available 24 hrs a day to make sure he can address any questions or concerns and he means that. I sent him a text at 2 am and he replied within a few minutes. The place is newly remodelled and is very nicely done. Looking forward to coming back once the garden is back in season to sample the fresh veggies. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood and convenient to just about everything as it is near one of the main interstates in the area and there is a train station less than two short blocks away. Thank you Chris for all your help and the great customer service!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay and can assure you that on your next visit you will be pleasantly surprised with our plans to enhance our property even more. I truly enjoy seeing to it that my guests have fun as well as guiding them to the best local attractions, restaurants, and more. I look forward to having you both back soon because there is much more to see and enjoy in NYC, The Bronx, New York State /L.I./ and the Connecticut area
