Jack Russell's Ridge, the sister property to the popular Retriever's Retreat, is located three miles from downtown Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. The large back yard has a fire-ring and outdoor games and provides ample space for guests and pets to enjoy the beauty of the West Virginia foothills. Claudio Meira purchased this chalet in 2008
On our first visit to Berkeley Springs, we were drawn to the character and charm that the town offers, and we soon found ourselves in the office of a local realtor ready to make an offer on a cabin near Cacapon State Park. The cabin had “good bones” but had been neglected by the previous owners. We spent the next year renovating “Retriever’s Retreat” and making it into our haven from our hectic schedules and pace of life in DC. Soon thereafter, Claudio found another home in need of some TLC, and we quickly began work on “Jack Russell’s Ridge.” As pet lovers, we are pleased to be able to share our pet-friendly homes with your family, and we hope that your time in Berkeley Springs offers you a chance to enjoy the company of family and good friends.

My partner and I had a restful, relaxing, “do-want-we-want” 3 days with our 2 fur kids. Everything was great. Especially being able to open the door & allowing the girls to explore. They loved it! Our only issue was the downstairs bed- too high to be comfortable. That said – thanks for offering such a wonderful place!
P.S. Nice big TV but couldn’t find closed captions which we need.
My fiancé and I booked this for a weekend getaway. It was exactly what we needed. There are cute restaurants and shops in town. The state park was close enough that we could bring the dogs there each morning. The drive into the house is amazing- you can see for miles and the mountains in the distance were beautiful! The house itself is very well kept - very clean and fully stocked with games and satellite tv. I would definitely recommend this house for a couples weekend getaway!
We enjoyed our weekend getaway. The house overall was clean and tidy. The instructions for the TV were great without them we would have been lost. The house was stocked with plenty of books and games though we stayed outside during most of our visit. Luckily, we only encountered a few stink bugs and a couple spiders which we expected with this setting. We loved that the deck and side yard were enclosed for the dogs giving them a little freedom. The only two negative things we can comment on are that the ceiling fans are in bad need of cleaning and the inside of the oven is pretty dirty. Those two things were not near enough to detract from all the nice things. We plan on coming back.
The cabin was beautiful and very comfortable. It was secluded and quiet. The weather was warm enough to also enjoy the deck. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed the electric fireplace in the evening. The only downside were the stink bugs getting inside. But that cannot be helped as it was simply that time of year for them. Otherwise the entire stay was awesome and we highly recommend this cabin. You will not be dissappointed. We plan to return.
We rented the cabin so that we could meet up with our childhood friends and their daughters, to go skiing at Whitetail. We would have given this lovely cabin 5 stars if it wasn't for the stink bug invasion that took place during our visit and put a huge damper on our trip.
We are used to "roughing it" and regularly stay in cabins and go camping so we understand that you will encounter bugs and various critters when you are in the woods - but this cabin was literally infested with stink bugs. Within just the first night we had killed over 50 of them and they just kept coming. It seems that the warm weather brought them out from the attic and they were swarming around the entire cabin, most of them in the upstairs bedroom. They were in our clothes, the bedding, the couch, on our friend's shoulder at one point, and one of them even fell from the ceiling right into the pancake that was frying on the stove! I think we might be a little more tolerant than the average person when it comes to bugs - most people would probably have left - though we didn't get much sleep - partially because they were flying around at night buzzing, and partially because it's not very pleasant sleeping with stink bugs crawling on you in the dark. One of them made it into my friends luggage and she found it when she unpacked back at her home.
Apart from the bug problem, the cabin is lovely. It took us about 35 minutes to get to Whitetail Ski resort. The area is nice for hiking though the cabin is not very secluded, it's right by the road. It has everything that you need inside, down to board games, toys and a dog bed. The cabin was clean (besides the bugs), except for the oven which was very dirty.
We would recommend the cabin if the bug problem gets taken care of.
I've been coming to Berkely Springs for many years, although this is the first time I've stayed in this cabin. We were "trapped" by a small ice storm after we arrived, but found that there was plenty to occupy our time in the house. It was comfortable, clean, warm and quiet, and there were plenty of amenities (which was great, since we couldn't get out). We were sorry to leave, but will probably return to this cabin.
