Camogli is a small, unspoiled fishing village tucked into a cove just the other side of the Portofino Penninsula. This is an alive Italian Village and a favorite spot for Italian's. We first visited Camogli in 1992 and fell in love with charm of this old village lined with pastel 'Trompe l'oeil' buildings. It was a dream come true to finally buy and restore an apartment right on the water and live in the heart of Camogli where we could enjoy the village to the fullest. The apartment has four large windows from which the Ocean, Camogli, the village of San Rocco, the Monte di Portofino and the 'Golfo Paradiso' can be seen.
The town has an excellent beach, and a small fishing Port where fresh fish can be purchased directly from the boats or from the local fish shops nearby.
There are many wonderful trails on the Portofino Penninsula. One can hike to San Rocco,or the abbey of San Fruttuoso(15th century) and even Portofino from Camogli.
A car is not a necessity in Camogli as there are ferries and trains to Genova, Rapallo, San Fruttuoso, Portofino, Santa Margarita, Cinque Terre and more. There is a little tourist office (IAT) near Piazza Schiaffino, and they are happy to assist you with train tickets, schedules and any questions you might have. There are many wonderful restaurants in Camogli offering fresh fish, regional pasta dishes 'troffie al pesto', 'pansotti con salsa di noci' and more. Via Garabaldi, the street on the water is lined with gelato shops, focacceria shops where one can sample the famous 'focaccia col formagio', boutiques for shopping, fresh homemade pasta shops (if you wish to cook at home), wonderful cafe's and bars for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are a couple of great wine shops, and often you will find an English speaking person to help with your selection.
The apartment is on the fourth floor (above ground level) the building entrance is a few steps up from the beach level and a few steps down from the main street of the village. From there it's 43 steps up to the apartment.
Should you arrive at the Genova airport and need transportation to Camogli we are happy to make arrangements with Sergio (Camogli taxi driver) to meet you, gather your belongings and provide a scenic 30 minute drive to Camogli. Sergio will deliver you to the beautiful apartment where you will be greeted by your hostess Elaine who ensures an enjoyable transition from traveler to guest by an introduction to the picturesque village and the apartment with its many amenities. Elaine is there to make certain the apartment is completely ready in every way, answer all your questions about the unit and the magical village Camogli. You've been traveling for hours or possibly days so you will appreciate the careful arrangements that have been made for you to ensure this last leg of your journey is the beginning of a wonderful visit. These same arrangements are available as you reluctantly depart Camogli.

Loved the living room with its open air shutters and light. The bedroom was dark but fine for sleep.
Lovely living room! 3 huge shutters that let in the sea breeze and light. The view was incredible and the sound of the waves calming. The apartment is Right on the water front. A short walk down to gelato and restaurants.
The bedroom was dark with a squeaky bed. Construction next store woke us every morning with hammering at 8:30am and stopped about 7:30 pm. It’s too bad that our cooked in meals were disturbed by the construction. The kitchen was fully equipped and made you want to cook fresh pasta. I understand renovations of neighboring units can not be predicted but it was still disappointing. I paid for the view and this met all of my expectations!
Thank you so much for choosing our apartment and taking the time to write a review, it's much appreciated. We're glad you enjoyed our apartment and Camogli. We weren't aware that there would be some construction taking place; our sincere apologies for the disturbance.
We really enjoyed this apartment, the view, the locals, the coffee, the pasta the pastries...such a beautiful place. The apartment is so welcoming, it’s homely and quiet with all the necessities available to make your stay enjoyable. We were met by Elaine, who gave us all the information to make our stay really enjoyable, she messaged us with directions and went out of her way to obtain a reversed parking spot for our rental, as we arrived on a Saturday the cost was well with it. The apartment has spectacular views of the beachfront and positioned perfectly for a lovely afternoon breeze. The kitchen is well equipped and I was able to cook some of the best fresh pasta we have ever tasted from Pasta Fresca Fiorella, the shop is a few doors down from the apartment. We visited some of the other towns on the coast, Portofino, Santa Margherita etc.. but loved coming back to Camolgi. We swam, ate, drank and relaxed during our week ..just perfect.
Thank you Bob and Adelle for sharing this piece of paradise with us, some great memories.
Thank you wonderful guests for this lovely review! We are so delighted that you enjoyed all that Camogli has to offer, and yes the Fiorella sister's homemade pasta is the best! Thank you again for choosing our apartment and we hope to see you again one day!
Hard to leave this little gem.
Could not have been a better spot for us. Wonderful views up and down the street and out to sea. We cooked all our dinners after hiking all day and the kitchen had everything we needed. Slept well with the sound of surf below.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed your stay in Camogli.
You were wonderful guests, hope to see you again one day!
Great view, centrally located
We had a great time in Camogli - very casual beach town with access to hikes, scuba diving and other coastal towns (via hiking or regular ferry service).
The apartment is centrally located above the walking "strand" and overlooks the local beach restaurants that sit along a rock beach. The view is blue water as far as the eye can see. If you're standing in the windows, you see the town, beach etc. It's lovely!
The sounds of the waves echo throughout the apartment, which we found relaxing. The church bells ring every 15 mins starting at ~8 am through ~10 pm. One can also hear the sounds of the town (recycling pick ups, people talking, etc.), though we found this tolerable. Recommend ear plugs in the Summer as you'll want the windows open for air circulation and will hear the goings on about town. We got used to this but one may struggle if sensitive to noise. In the cooler weather it's likely not an issue as you can close the windows.
There is no air conditioning and the bedroom gets very warm - they provide plenty of fans so ultimately not an issue (the fans also mute the sounds from the street). The bed/pillows are not very comfortable but tolerable because you're having too much fun (and wine!) to care.
The kitchen is well outfitted and we found the Doro grocery store (along with specialty stores) to be very adequate. One of us is Celiac and there were plenty of gluten free options ("senza glutine").
Majority of restaurants have a similar menu. We enjoyed La Camogliese for both lunch and dinner - great view, Ostaia da o Sigu, and La Bossa - great wine list, delicious food, off the beach and a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle.
We went diving with B&B. We saw grouper, eels, schools of grunts and barracuda, among others. They don't speak much English and you need to be aware of the differences in tanks and the related weight required. We took our masks and used their wetsuits (7mm), BCDs, regulators - we felt safe.
We hiked to San Fruttuoso - we took the inland trail and found it lovely and plenty challenging. San Fruttuoso was jam-packed so not exactly the quaint town we hoped for (ferries drop people every 30 minutes) but worth a visit. Next time we would hike to Portofino and take the train to other towns for hiking variety. Documentation provided about local interests is limited so do your research ahead. They do have clear instructions about the apartment. If you fly into Genoa, recommend using their driver, who was great!
Grazie mille for your wonderful review; so glad you enjoyed yourselves!
We hope to see you again one day!!!!
Perfect Italian Getaway!
Adelle has such a beautiful and unique property on the beautiful Ligurian coast of Italy in Camogli- it is worth your visit, it's a once-in-a-lifetime location and trip! Working on the booking and payment, etc. was a breeze with her, she helped us with transportation details and connected us to Elayne, her property manager, who is such a (seemingly) rare gem to have… she was so helpful to us! We messaged her with several questions about the area and such and she was so quick to respond and helpful with information. Elayne's assistance was above and beyond and so much appreciated.
The apartment is just absolutely perfect, it was relaxing on so many levels, so convenient and easy. And Camogli has such a magical feeling to it- we wandered around for the first day and kept asking each other if it was real (and not in a contrived way, but such a beautiful way). There are so many lovely restaurants, gelato spots, shopping boutiques, and art galleries along the boardwalk of Camogli, literally just outside the apartment door. The beautiful beaches are steps away with your pick of locations to either reserve a sun bed or chair or just bring your towel and hang out on the free public beaches. Our concern that it might be "loud" or "bustling" since the apartment is just off the boardwalk was proven wrong, the happy sounds of children playing were welcomed and enjoyable. Listening to the sounds of the waves and the Mediterranean rocks on the beach was relaxing in and of itself! At night, we closed the windows and didn't hear a thing- and slept so well in the comfy bed and safe apartment!
The apartment was clean, functioned well, and had everything you would possibly need (beach towels, sea shoes for walking the rocky beach, laundry detergent/softener for the in-apartment washer, a kitchen with all the cookware you need, candles, and even a binder with suggested side trips, ferry times, nearby hikes, and info on some restaurants and local areas. You couldn't ask for anything more in the apartment!
We spent a day at The Abbey of San Fruttuoso- which we'd highly recommend! We took a ferry over, enjoyed the Abbey and a little hike around the area, and then finished off the day with some swimming and sunbathing- it's a unique and hidden little spot well worth your time.
Adelle, Elayne, and the apartment make you feel welcome and like a true local. We're so thankful we found this apartment and the town of Camogli- we will definitely be back!
We're so happy you enjoyed your time in and around Camogli; you were wonderful guests!
Thank you for your taking the time to write such a helpful, thoughtful review. We hope you returned with many wonderful memories. We look forward to seeing you again one day. Until then.....
Grazie e arrivederci! Adelle
We absolutely loved this apartment and Camogli and everyone we met there. The place is beautiful, with an even more beautiful view. It exceeded our expectations. I did, however, find that the woman caring for the place and who greeted us on our arrival, didn't seem to want to be bothered, and was in quite a hurry to leave. Also, it has been almost a year, and we have yet to receive our $300.00 security deposit, even though I sent a nice personal email to the owners, who seem, from their previous emails to be pleasant. Lisa Rosenthal, Illinois
Dear Lisa, thank you for your kind review.
A bit confused regarding the security deposit, as last year we did not require a security deposit from our guests. I've reread all of our correspondence via VRBO there was no request made for a security deposit, nor is there record of a payment made. Is it possible that the $300 deposit made to reserve the apartment was confused for a "security deposit"? This deposit was credited towards your total rental fee. You might want to speak with the people at VRBO about this as all transactions are handled by them.
We do require a 50euro cleaning fee upon arrival which is non-refundable.
I do apologize if our property manager seemed in a rush and I will speak with her to insure that she provides our guests with the best possible experience.
We thank you again for choosing to stay in our apartment, we really appreciate your business and hope to see you back one day! grazie e arrivederci
