Come relax in our little piece of heaven!
My wife and I were born in Anchorage and have lived and skied in the mountains around Girdwood and on Mt. Alyeska since our youth. After spending many years outside Alaska getting educated, we returned to our home state, fell in love and have been raising our family here ever since. I am a general aviation pilot and enjoy flying around Alaska and seeing the state. I run a real estate business and rental properties in Girdwood and Anchorage.
Audrey or Win Faulkner purchased this lodge in 1996
Mount Alyeska and the town of Girdwood is Anchorage's local ski resort, nestled in the heart of the Chugach Mountains just a short drive from Anchorage. Girdwood is a charming town that is filled with huge spruce trees, surrounded by mountains and glaciers and best of all, it snows a ton in the winter making the skiing some of the best around. Summers are fabulous as well with great bike trails and hiking trails throughout the valley.
Our home is just a few hundred yards from the base of Mt. Alyeska. Located on a well kept bike path that leads to the mountain, walking or biking from our home and accessing the rest of the Girdwood Valley is easy. Our luxurious home is very open and spacious, has a wall of windows facing the mountain, and a large open circular fireplace that will make you feel like you are in your own ski lodge.
This review is actually for 2/28/15-3/8/15. I had a group of 15 adults all in our late-20s, professionals, adventurous suburban folks who love to go on snowboarding tours. Audrey and Win were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating. It was unprecedented for them to rent out their property to this many people, and we appreciated so much their flexibility and trust with this group! We hope they didn't feel too uneasy about it, but if they did, thank you for giving us a chance! We did our best to follow their instructions and keep things as orderly as possible before we left. Audrey welcomed us the first day with an appetizer! A LARGE, freshly caught and cut salmon with homemade dip! We also loved that the place was also walking distance to Girdwood Ski Resort. We were all exhausted, but our hearts were full by the end of the trip. We miss Alaska, and hope to come across other hosts just like Audrey and Win in future trips.
From Team Fireball
As if visiting Alaska wasn't enough, staying in this house added to the experience. It was a great place to come home to, relax, and rest up for the next day. It's very easy to get to, convenient to Anchorage, Whittier and Seward. There is plenty of room for everyone. Just a short walk to a local grocery/provision store and restaurants. We'd definitely stay here again, when back in Alaska.
The comfortable Faulkner Girdwood lodge proved to be a perfect home in a perfect place for our family of twelve. The six adults and six grandchildren enjoyed every inch of the home. The game room and tv room were a real hit with the kids and the living room with a fire in the center fire place was enjoyed by the adults. The kitchen was well equipped, allowing us to eat most meals in. We even appreciated the large utility room. Girdwood is a charming place from which to enjoy the beauty of Alaska and the unlimited activities.
This home was a beautiful stay for us during our week in Alaska. Everything was in good condition, the kitchen was more than fully stocked, and the living room with fireplace was amazingly comfortable and relaxing! The beds and rooms were clean and warm, and the water was hot. Location was also very good, close to many sights such as Byron and Explorer Glaciers, Whittier, and of course Anchorage. Thank you for setting the foundation for an incredible trip!
Our family of 6 enjoyed a wonderful 5 night stay at the Faulkner lodge in Girdwood in October. This was perfect for everyone - 2 kids, 2 parents, 2 grandparents. The fireplace that is the centerpiece of the living room is beautiful. We toasted marshmallows and made s'mores with our grandsons. The boys loved the pool and foosball tables, a nice break from electronics! We prepared wonderful meals in the beautiful kitchen. The location was perfect, a short walk to everything, and the view was beautiful. The Faulkner's take care of every detail to make sure that their guests have everything they need for a wonderful stay. We highly recommend this lodge, and can't wait to go back again.
Thank you for opening this beautiful home for us to rent. The location was perfect for us, it had all the amenities plus all the fine touches anyone could ask for. Everything worked beautifully and Audrey was available when I had any questions. I recommend this for any age and for large families. We felt very welcome, Audrey met us at the house to show us around and had smoked salmon, crackers, and cream cheese with chives for us. A wonderful welcome. The beds were comfortable, lots of hot water. And plenty of space. It was immaculately clean and we would rent here again in a minute. Thank you for the sincere hospitality.
