About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6)

Come back to the Summer of '42 when life was simpler....

Welcome to our little house by the sea. Many of our guests have remarked that it reminds them of the little beach houses that were in place long before condominiums and seaside growth took off.

The house actually predates WWII, but was moved into place during the time that the Coast Guard had a presence nearby to defend against German U-boats active in the area. We invite you to use this historic setting to have morning coffee on the beach as the sun rises, move from front to back porch following the shade, cook out, swim, surf, shell, fish, watch the boats go by. The Usina bridge, a quarter mile south, will take you over the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway into St. Augustine (established 1565) for shopping, touring, fine dining, and entertainment. Take the time to relax and enjoy yourself with the simple pleasures of our little house at Vilano.

Great Little House!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! Close to the beach, close to St. Augustine, and great owners. One of the easiest places to stay with kids ages 8, 5, and 2. We will be back!

Girls weekend away

  • 5 of 5

There were 5 of us that stayed the weekend and everything was perfect! Our group of Sea Glass Sisters enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cottage is clean and well equipped. Just steps from the beach. We especially enjoyed seeing the sunrise each morning, sitting on the beach with coffee in hand. AND we all found sea glass!

I have personally stayed at this gem of a cottage 4 times, previously with family, and it's because of these past trips that I wanted to share this place with some of my best girlfriends. Thank you to Regina for always being available with assistance if needed. Thank you Daryl for sharing your treasure of a sanctuary. And thank you Padi for your quick responses to emails and questions.

We will plan to return again soon!

Owner's Response: We are delighted that you and your "Sisters" enjoyed your stay at the Little House...and not to worry about what the neighbors had to say about your singing out on the porch. They don't generally get to bed until close to midnight, anyway. Darryl, Regina, and I are so glad you all graced the Little House with your friendship and fun. We look forward to your return.

We thought it was nice; and very pleased that we chose an older, established place.

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous vacation! The house was clean and well kept; and although it's small, it did not feel at all confining for the 4 of us. Our grandchildren, ages 6 and 4 absolutely loved the beach and playing in the ocean. The boat cruise around the bay was the highlight of our trip! Captain Bob allowed Nalie and Kolten to steer the boat! We all had a great time and made some wonderful memories. I will definitely recommend the Little House to friends and family planning a vacation in St. Augustine.

Long Weekend Stay

  • 3 of 5

The Little House was easy to get to and located perfectly - very close to the beach, easy access to restaurants/Publix, and downtown St. Augustine. You couldn't beat the convenience factor at this rental. We were also so pleased to be able to bring our dogs who loved sitting on the porch and taking walks on the beach.

The house itself is charming with its WW2 era feeling, very warm and welcoming. The caretaker next door is also very kind and helpful. We really enjoyed the stay but there are a few upgrades that would have really made the stay top notch. New mattresses or mattress pads for the beds would have made it easier to sleep. A new stove, as only 2 of the elements worked which made it harder to cook meals in the kitchen. Finally, I would upgrade the family room. The way it is laid out with the tv tiny very low to the ground, with only one couch to sit on (as the other was not even comfortable due to how straight up it was) just made it difficult to use the space to relax. Easy fixes to make this place a very comfortable vacation home for a family.

Thanks to the owner for sharing this spot with us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We have replaced the stove and done some other improvements since you visited. Had we known that you found the stove in poor working order, we could have worked a remedy while you were staying. The TV is small, but that reflects our values. We hope the Little House is a respite for folks (and their pets) from the noise and clamor of contemporary society. We try to "meet in the middle" with our small TV and 400+ cable channels (mostly junk, we concede, but that's what the cable company provides). We hope that you will come again (returning guests enjoy a discounted rate), and see the changes we have made as a result of your review. We also look forward to making "real time" resolutions to any problems that you may encounter. Just let us know. Regina, Darryl, and I appreciate your review.

Labor Day Vaca

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Little House for our family Labor Day vacation. We wanted somewhere relaxing and quiet but close to downtown. This place was perfect! It has a old school beach charm and feel and is on a quiet little street just steps from the beach. And we could be downtown in a few minutes if we wanted. Tons for our kids to do and great places to eat! We are already talking about a spring break trip back here. It was perfect!
