About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 2 Baths (Sleeps 2 adults)

This is the classic log cabin (with new kitchen!) you've been looking for. Sleeps 2 adults in one queen bed, and two small futons for 2 children. Located in Driggs, Idaho - 45 miles from Jackson Hole and 97 miles from Yellowstone. Named by Men's Journal 'the best small town in America'. We also have 'Horseshoe' Cabin next door - 3 bedroom plus loft - see VRBO #474797.

Perfect for family vacations, singles and couples get-away, artist/writer retreat, honeymoons, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, skiing, fishing, and just enjoying the fresh air.

Colter Cabin is located on 7 acres surrounded by ranches and aspen trees. Views of Grand Targhee ski area and Grand Tetons from the front deck. 25 minute drive to Grand Targhee for great powder skiing and 65 minute drive over the pass to ski in Jackson Hole. Cross-country ski and snowshoe out the front door or on many groomed trails close by.

Great kayaking on the Teton and Snake Rivers and mountain biking in the Big Hole Mountains. Fly-fishing at Leigh Creek, Teton River and Henry's Fork. Hiking out your door in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. Beautiful Leigh Creek within walking distance. Horseback riding and golf available 5 min. away. Darling town of Driggs with cute restaurants and shops is a 7 mile drive.

Jackson Hole (50 minute drive) is full of art galleries, shopping, museums, restaurants, float trips on the Snake, cross-country and downhill skiing. Idaho Falls and Jackson airports are both 75 minutes away. Yellowstone National Park is 100 miles north - enter at West Yellowstone. Island Park and Henry's Fork, an area of world famous fly fishing, is 40 minutes north.

About Ginger Howard

We bought this cabin as a vacation get away for family and friends. Since then we have had the opportunity to live here full time! Our family uses the cabins often, so the kitchens are well equipped and the beds are comfy. We love to hike and kayak and cook dinners for the family. We have two grown children who live in San Francisco and Oakland.

Why Ginger Howard chose Tetonia

This area of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana is just gorgeous. There are so many beautiful areas to visit - mountains, waterfalls, rivers, fields of wildflowers, throughout the summer, great snow all winter - you will want to be outdoors every day. Late spring is the best time to see the animals with their new offspring, and October brings the spectacular golden 'quaking' leaves on the aspen trees.

What makes this cabin unique

Quiet, beautiful trees in all seasons, overlooks 2000 acre ranch, rolling hills, yet 7 minute drive to tiny cute town with amazing big grocery, health foods, Austrian pastries at Pendls, more. Hiking trails surround us.

We stayed 5 different places over two weeks on our trip to Glacier, Yellowstone & the Tetons. This was our all around favorite. Our teenage boys loved this leg of the trip - which is surprising because it was the most relaxing. The mountains were fogged in the entire time we were there - but we loved warm nights in the cabin playing darts and cooking meals (what an amazing kitchen!!). I ordered a new fridge shortly after we came home like the one in that kitchen! Just a beautiful place. Our only negative is that we didn't stay longer!

My review is titled with capital letters because it was THAT good. Colter Cabin is a gift. It's a perfect getaway being in such a serene and peaceful environment. Everything is beautifully decorated (Ginger is AMAZING), the accessories were exceptional. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped with everything you need to create your unique vacation experience. We had several storms while we were there (being from Northern California, these were particularly exciting), and having a crackling fire while enjoying them was perfect. We visited the Grand Targhee, went hiking, visited local shops... everything was lovely. We fell in love with the surroundings, the people and the cabin. It's a place I'm sure we'll visit again!

Beautiful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just spent a week in the cabin during the first week of October 2010. The cabin is beautiful and very private. There was no TV which made our stay even more enjoyable. The cabin offered excellent access to Jackson, the Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone. I would recommend to anyone staying in the Jackson Hole area.

Beautiful Home in a Beautiful Location!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is exactly as it was described! Comfortably accomodates 4 adults. Very clean and tidy. Has all of the amenities of a private home! The decor is wonderfully western. The cabin is private and secluded but not too far from town. Great rural road out front for runners/joggers. Each morning we awoke to horses in the back pasture. What a treat! We hope to be back soon.
