We have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and this is our first time in Puerto Rico. I am at a loss for words on where to begin as my entire family feels this was the best vacation ever. We have three children ages 12, 10, and 7 and Gladys met us at the condo and felt like family with her warm welcome. She was a wealth of information on things to do prior to the trip and when we checked in. Luquillo, like most towns in puerto Rico have been hit economically and farther from the beach some of the houses look a little run down. The condo complex is right on La Pared beach with an amazing view. Every morning I sat drinking my coffee just enjoying the views. Surfers in front and to the right, and calmer water off to the left with families enjoying the beautiful beaches.
We planned out many activities based on information provided by Gladys and some internet searches. Our plan was a relaxed local day followed by a day trip alternating for our week long stay. Locally we explored the beached and food kiosks and the condo is flanked on both sides by two restaurants. During the day there are also food trucks and all were very good. The Kiosks are a few minutes drive and we found a wide range of choices from more expensive lobster restaurants to very low key and was not disappointed by any. Gladys also gave us many recommendations for near the airport and then for Old San Juan, all of which were great.
For activities we did a day trip to Culebra island and another to the rain forest. We also explored the fort and Old San Juan and on the local days went to Luquillo beach one day then the rest of the beach days were across the street. We met so many nice local families with kids our ages and everyone was very friendly and genuinely interested in us and thankful for visiting this part of Puerto Rico.
Overall it is an unspoiled part of the island with warm and open people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. After dinner my middle child and I would walk around the neighborhood and felt perfectly safe everywhere we walked. I speak very little spanish, but was able to get by with a few words and met a few very nice people.
For tours I would hands down recommend Kayak Puerto Rico and we used them for the Culebra tour and a mini-boat adventure. We also went surfing right across the street with Brian Ramos at Surfing Puerto Rico who turned out to be amazing. My kids loved every minute of the lessons and he was energetic and engaging.
We loved our stay here. Everything is thought of, from a place to drop your keys and bags, to non-breakable dinnerware for eating out on the balcony (which we did a LOT!). We loved the town and had no issue walking around, down the beach, around the square, etc. We felt completely safe all the time with our two young kids. The apartment so so clean and obviously Gladys has a lot of pride in her place. We got a bit lost finding it, but after the first time, it was no issue.
This is a great location with more of a small town feel. We spend a day in Old San Juan, at El Yunque, and at the lovely swimming beach a few minutes away. The area out front is rough, but we enjoyed watching the surfers and building sand piles for the waves to destroy with the kids. We were able to grab any groceries we wanted (including a birthday cake) from the Amigo right in town. We loved eating at Lena's for breakfast (wish we had eaten there early in the trip so we could go again) and Aroma's had great coffee.
A fantastic stay, and we hope to come back again.
Four of us stayed at this beautiful beachfront condo for the month of March. We spent a lot of time enjoying the view of the ocean, beach and surfers while having our meals on the balcony. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was very well stocked for cooking meals. Fantastic view of the ocean from the dining and living areas. The condo also comes with a washer and dryer, beach chairs and towels, and a secure parking spot for 2 cars.
Luquillo is a nice small town with some excellent restaurants and nearby kiosk style restaurants that served surprisingly good food. We were very comfortable walking around town day and night. The locals were always very polite and friendly.
It is close to El Yunque, the Fajardo ferries to Culebra and Vieques and numerous other day trip sightseeing places. Old San Juan was a reasonable 45 minute drive and we enjoyed going there a number of times.
Gladys (owner) warmly welcomed us with a basket of food and a bottle of wine and took the time to show us the unit. She was quick to respond to any subsequent questions we had during our stay. Thank you Gladys for being such a wonderful host. We will definitely stay at your condo when we return to beautiful Puerto Rico.
Friends and I have traveled to Puerto Rico, and particularly to Luquillo, for many years. We have stayed in Playa Azul, Solimar, and Sandy Hill. Vistas del Faro has been our February home for the past seven or eight years, which tells you how much we enjoy it and the town of Luquillo. The owner provides great accommodations with amenities often not found in beach rentals. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms and bathrooms are supplied with quality towels and linens; and the supplies for the beach (cooler, chairs, towels) are plentiful. The flat-screen, hi-def television and high-speed internet was a nice addition this year.
The town of Luquillo and, in particular, the beach area (La Pared) in front of the condo have shown some major improvements over the years. New beach access has been added for those who like to surf and new lighting has been installed all along the beach area. "Past y Pueblo" is an excellent restaurant on the beach, just down from the condo as is "Surfrider's", which is right next door. . "Leñas" is a new restaurant opened just behind the condo on the town plaza. The plaza itself has been upgraded and has a special charm. An Amigo supermarket and Walgreen's Pharmacy are a five minute drive away, across Route 3. A walk around will show the charm of a small Puerto Rican town. There are some abandoned houses, some by people now living in the states. But there are also homes being fixed up and renovated. Pass by someone local and give them a smile and a "buen dia" and it will be returned. I think my only fear is that this vacation destination spot is becoming more well-known and that my sunrise walks along the beach will become crowded.
This was our first time renting a vacation by owner home Jan 14-17 . The condo had everything we needed! I mean everything! You could have cooked a 10 course meal with all the cooking equipment that was there. Its also very nice to have your own beach chairs to use. We used the washing machine and dryer which is right in the apartment. The bedroom linens were more than I expected and everything was so clean! You could really tell how well cared for everything was. The view is amazing and right next door to the condo is a wonderful small beach restaurant with amazing fish tacos and coco mojitos!. We often kept the patio door open so we could hear the constant crash of the waves. The bedrooms are all air conditioned and although the living room is not, you do not need it because of the wonderful breezes from the water and the overhead fans.Gladys met us at the airport for the transition for the keys which was very smooth. The condo is gated and there are several different keys to actually get into the place. The area was a bit different than I expected and at first I wasnt sure of the saftey but soon felt very safe and felt like I was really living among the locals. Our group was my husband and I and our teenage daughter and son. The condo is so close to many attractions such as horseback riding and the rainforest. We found a great juice bar nearby the rainforest called "degree 18" ( the acia bowl was the best one we had on the trip). The apt. is also close to the famous Kiosks. There is also a wonderful Mexican restaurant called Loitas near buy. The beach in front of the condo was really too rough for swimming when we were there. You can walk along the beach or the nice sidewalk that follows the beach. We traveled 5 min down the road to Luquillo beach which was beautiful and clean. Spent a day and a half there. We walked a bit into the town to get coffee one morning. Any local that we passed gave us a nod or a smile. We dont speak Spanish and got along very well. If you are looking for a fancy resort type town, this is not the place for you. As Gladys explained to us, when the economy bottomed out, the island suffered and is still trying to recover. Many people had to abandon their homes ,so you have a mix of condos like ours and homes that are decaying. If you want to be among the locals and really get the feel for this wonderful small laid back Puerto Rican town, I would recommend Luquillo and Gladys!
This condo is everything you see in pictures, read on reviews and more. I walked into a spotless, warm and tastefully decorated condo with everything you would pack to make your stay worry free provided and available for all to enjoy. From the impeccable linens and towels, to fully equipped kitchen, to beach chairs and towels. The balcony is comfortable and perfect for a peaceful breakfast and relaxation any time of the day. The sunrises were spectacular! The location... 30 min drive to San Juan, 10 min drive to the Rainforest, 5 min drive to supermarket, Walgreens and Wendy's (I prefer the 5 mins drive to the Kioskos and all the typical puertorican food). Steps from beach, bakery, restaurants and liquor store. The town has suffered the consequences of Puerto Rico's economic crisis but the locals keep the spirit and the warmth that has made Luquillo a favorite beach and surfing destination in the Caribbean. Gladys was very accommodating to my schedule and offered to provide anything I needed but, honestly, everything I needed was already included in the condo. Thank you Gladys for your attention to detail and kindness! Will definitely go back to your piece of paradise!
