We offer you a prairie retreat surrounded by the City of Manhattan, Kansas. Our detached guest house offers privacy (but we're a short distance away in our home and can be reached at all times via text). The entire "Little House" including bathroom and kitchenette are for your private use. We're happy to recommend our favorite haunts from 40 years of living in Manhattan. You will have access to our ridgetop fire circle with 360 degree views of Manhattan and the Flint Hills.
Thick-walled straw bale construction is the pinnacle of local green construction. Concrete stuccoed walls and a standing seam galvalume roof create a quiet peaceful place to watch sunrises and wildlife and be awed by an occasional Kansas thunderstorm.
Rod can show you trails through the prairie (native grasses, forbs and wildflowers) and woods (oak, hickory and understudy plants). You can walk down to the creek, visit the spring, or explore rock ledges (evidence of native peoples dating back +2000 years).
Our 3/4 mile private drive will take you through woodlands and prairie (colors that change constantly and is home to turkey, deer and other wildlife). You'll experience several views of Manhattan along the way. The Little House is surrounded by more than 100 acres and adjacent to other lands and two large public parks connected to all of Manhattan via the linear trail.
Most guests come and go via private vehicle but Uber is available (we're 5 minutes from @FlyMhk) and designated bike lanes are along Miller Parkway (adjacent).
