Historic 1940's Cabin in the wonderful private community of Timberlake. 200 feet of private beach and Lake Michigan frontage with wonderful northern Michigan sunsets. Property sits on about 5 acres of private land.
Walking distance to the Good Hart store for most of your needs. Short drive into Harbor Springs or Mackinac for shopping and/or sight seeing.
I think the reviews from 2009 and 2011 mostly work for 2014 but I felt an updated review of this 1940s cabin is well deserved. The owners were fantastic to work with. When we arrived the cabin was neat and tidy. Lots of space to spread out. My only complaint about the interior would be the kitchen. As hard as any owner might try to fight a losing battle, opening the cupboards beneath the sink to find a mouse trapped in one of many traps laid beneath it was a bit disconcerting. I kept our wrapped food in a large canvas duffle and put cans and jars on the counter. If you pulled anything from the well stocked kitchen, you would wash it just to make sure there was no trace of the little friends living with you. This cabin is described as a 1940s rustic cabin and that certainly fits the bill. There are two kayaks available for use which were an added perk. The sunsets are unrivaled. There is a gas grill available along with a hammock and picnic table. The mattresses in the loft have seen better days as did a few others. If you are truly looking for a three bedroom, be aware that one bedroom is utilized as a den/bedroom and houses one single twin. Another bedroom has a twin and full. The master has a queen. The loft has two doubles. Thank goodness the weather was cool in the evenings. The beautiful old windows in the living room that overlook Lake Michigan do not open. I did keep the windows open in the kitchen just to help with the smell and it helped. Would I stay again? Probably not. But we made the best of our stay and enjoyed the area immensely.
Amen to Bill's review from '09! This destination is delightful in every way. It's quiet, charmingly rustic and absolutely as represented by the owners. The sunsets are unrivaled. They've added a new picnic table where we took evening nourishment every night we were there: we raced home from Mackinac Is. one evening so as to eat at that table and enjoy the sunset. The kayaks were enjoyed every day. We were there with 5 adults and six kids ages 13 mo to almost 10 years. The owners were great to work with. I would gladly recommend this property except that I don't want anyone else to clutter up the calendar so as to complicate the scheduling of our return. Thanks for a wonderful week!
The photos do not do this property justice. It is everything as advertised and better than anything up in that area. It sits directly on the beach. The 200 feet seems like you own then entire beach becuase of a peninsula that runs out. The water is beautiful and the beach is fun for the whole family. The cabin is really unique. It has a loft that kids absolutely love, the master suite is away from the rest of the rooms and the kitchen is classic 1940's that leads out to an awesome living area with large bay windows that looks at the lake. The porche is perfect for evenings watching the sun melt into lake Michigan.
It was absolutely perfect and I will be back time and time again.
Thank you to the owners, who are wonderful nice people that made our stay one of the best vacations I've ever experienced.
