Prepare to enjoy the peace and serenity of this island retreat, and the amazing views of the Haro Strait, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Olympics and Victoria. Our spacious home is a comfortable 2000 square foot rambler, situated on four rolling acres overlooking the Haro Strait. Relax outside on the deck and watch the shipping traffic, or keep a watchful eye out for the deer, foxes, rabbits or raccoons that frequent the grounds surrounding the house, or let your eyes wander to the eagles, vultures, and hawks as they hunt from the skies above. From your perch above the Haro Strait, as evening approaches, enjoy the spectacular sunsets for which the west side of the island is world famous. As night falls enjoy the bright lights of Victoria and Port Angeles.
From late April through September look for the sightseeing boats speeding over from Victoria in search of our resident pods of orcas and other marine life. During these months, orcas often can be spotted from the house, as they travel up and down the West side of the island. For those who want a closer look at the whales, there are public viewing areas one-half mile away. Approximately a mile from the house is prime orca viewing at Lime Kiln State Park, the first park in the country dedicated to whale watching. There the whales may pass as close as five yards offshore.
Other favorite outdoor activities on the island include clamming, crabbing, kayaking, beachcombing, hiking and bicycling. All of these are less than 20 minutes away.
For the chefs among you, our home features a fully-equipped kitchen, centrally situated and facing the water. The master bedroom and dining areas are also situated to take full advantage of the views.
Our home sleeps six to eight people. It is furnished with two queen beds, one full bed, one full futon and one queen futon.
We absolutely adore going to this vacation home. It is huge, immaculate, filled with everything that you could ever want or need and the view is fantastic. The owners are wonderful and very helpful. This house overlooks the strait that the whales frequent. The owners let you know when the whales are in the vicinity. It is close to anything that you want to visit. It is far enough from town to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. We had deer, eagles, raccoons, fox and birds of all kinds visiting us. We have stayed here in the past and will continue to stay here as often in the future as possible. We would like to stay forever, but alas that is not possible.
We were excited when we booked this property because of its proximity to prime whale watching locations. It did not disappoint. The first night we sat on the deck and watched the Orcas in the straight. We also had the company of a deer and a fox.
We loved the location because it was far enough away from the town that we did not have to deal with crowds but close enough that a run into the grocery store was easy peasy. It was also a perfect distance from the many areas we liked to frequent.
The house was exactly as portrayed in the pictures. The kitchen was well-stocked and he rooms were comfortable. We enjoyed making use of the porch and the grill. The house was plenty big enough to accommodate the three couples that stayed.
We also appreciated the owners looking out for us and letting us know when the whales were spotted near our location.
It was a wonderful place and we look forward to returning.
I think this was our 4th time to stay at this house. I cannot say enough good things about it. It's so convenient to everything and you are out of the hustle and bustle where you can wake in the morning to hear the whales passing by while drinking coffee on the deck. I wish I could stay there for a month.......or a year.
A terrific home that was warm and inviting the minute we walked in! There were only 4 of us, so the 3 bedrooms gave us more room than we needed to spread out. The view off the back deck was just as good as the picture. We really enjoyed watching the fog roll in and out in the mornings and the sunsets in the evenings. The house is close to the Lime Kiln whale watching area and we were able to drive to it in time to catch whales going on a couple of occasions. From the house, only short jaunts are needed to get to the American Camp at the south end of the island, British camp and Roche Harbor on the north end, and back to Friday Harbor whenever needed for supplies. We loved our stay in this house and hope to come back to it and these beuatiful islands in a couple of years!
Wonderful location - 15 mins from Friday Harbor, 20 mins from Roche Harbor and it was great to come back 'home' after being out among the hustle and bustle. 3 adults+ 2yr old for half of the week; 3 more adults for the rest with plenty of room for all. House is as pictured and well-kept; views from the house/deck are spectacular. We chose location, from many, for the lot, sloping but not a hill/cliff neighborhood is quiet with little traffic so we could walk toddler around without worry (except for blackberry vines :)).Close to all the island has to offer, we would rent again from Sharon and Paul, who aim to please. We came from east and west to be together and all were happy with choice.
This large, spacious home was impeccably clean upon our arrival. It is well appointed with a full kitchen, 2 televisions, and wifi access. The views to the west of the Olympic mountains are stunning and a good size deck off the back makes it easy for 4 to comfortably enjoy the view and a meal or a good book. The house is very private and neighbors are a good distance away due to the large lot sizes. Access to nearby Lime Kiln park and the western whale watch road makes whale watching both easy and convenient. The owners are responsive and cordial and were prompt in addressing the one or two items we found wanting. The Lavender farm is close by, as is False Bay, but nothing on San Juan Island is too far away. I would readily recommend this comfortable and reasonably priced property to a friend.
