1 Bedroom Detached Cottage With a Private Walled Courtyard
About Helen Perks
We moved to Hastings from North London in 2011. We have spent the past year renovating Potting Cottage and enjoying our new life by the sea.
Helen Perks purchased this House in 2012
Why Helen Perks chose Hastings
Like many people we came to visit Hastings and fell in love with it's relaxed seaside pace, but also the vibrant feel of the Old Town.. The pace of life may be relaxed but that doesn't mean it isn't fun!
What makes this House unique
The moment we walked into Potting Cottage, long before it was renovated, we knew that it had a character that was all its own. The quirky fireplace ahead of you, the vaulted ceiling as you walk upstairs. In an instant you know you have walked into something special.

A good week in Hastings.
Loved this cottage. Small, but we thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to the old town, the sea, cinema and restaurants and definitely the wonderful pubs. The bedroom and bathroom superb. Slept so well in the very large squishy bed.
The weather was a bit iffy, but we were out and about every day. Worth getting a weekly parking ticket for the nearby Bourne Parking area. Loved the village of Rye, and also Battle, and the beautiful hidden Alexander Park in Hastings. Plenty to explore. Fishing museums a real treat. Jerwood Art Gallery, disappointing. The best piece of art was to look out of the window towards the sea!
A good relaxing holiday. Tasty food, particularly in FILO pub.
Perfect for a weekend retreat
Lovely house, everything you would want & great location moments away from Hastings old town.
Potting Cottage was the perfect get away, so close to everything , and very thoughtfully presented.
Ideally situated for everything you could wish to do in Old Hastings, Potting Cottage offers comfort, insider information, and a warm welcome. Every possible need is catered for in a cleverly thought out space.
We enjoyed local sea food and spent our three days painting amongst the fishing boats and gathering driftwood. Our trip to the Jerwood Gallery was interesting...not least for the splendid view across the colourful chaos of the fishing huts. Quentin Blake's drawings were a joy, as ever....quirky, economical and understated showing a lifetimes' knowledge and experience. The rest of the work and the collection, a bit uneven.
The perfect setting
We know and love Hastings and recently were made aware of the Potting Cottage. Great locate,n. so well equipped with evening one can need, plus character and warmth, so ideal.
Delightful cottage in the heart of Hastings Old Town
Lovely, stylish cottage with everything you could need and so convenient for all of the shops and restaurants in the old town. Hastings Old Town is crammed with amazing architecture and is oozing history which is almost tangible! The shops are fabulous and unique, with not a single chain store, which is so refreshing. The only negative about the cottage is that it can be noisy, especially as the bakery next door opens very early. This didn't bother us but may if you are a light sleeper! Would thoroughly recommend a visit to Hastings and Potting Cottage.
