Come experience true southern comfort. Bring a smile and a suitcase...that's all you need.
Luxury and comfort blend perfectly when you stay in the Taylor Cottage. Located in Savannah's coveted and prestigious downtown historic district, the Cottage was originally built in 1870 as the Carriage House to the Manor that fronts East Taylor Street. The Cottage has its own courtyard, driveway and entrance off the lane that runs behind the original home that it used to be the Carriage House for at 540/542 E. Taylor Street. However, It was lovingly restored in 2001 by the current owners of the Manor and now has its own private entrance and address at 541 E. Jones Lane.
The roomy and airy kitchen is well stocked with all you need should you wish to cook or bake during your stay. Tall ceilings are in every room and windows spill sunshine from the 5ft tall windows that surround the home. Wide archways connect the first floor Living Room, Rear Foyer and Kitchen. Convenient passthroughs add to the open feel and lend themselves to continuing conversations as you move from room to room. There is also a first floor Queen Bedroom and detached full Bath with stylish walk-in shower. The second floor boasts a wide and easy to climb staircase (actually...this is rare in historic homes that usually have very steep and narrow stairwells) and the entire floor comprises the Master Bedroom. Created as a pseudo loft it has a Queen bed, attached bath with jet tub/shower, roomy walk -in closet and a comfortable sitting area. The room is flanked by tall windows on 3 of the 4 walls and has a high ceiling providing a delightfully light and airy room perfect for putting on wedding gowns, readying for a night out on the town or just curling up with a good book. There is a lovely gated courtyard and deck in the rear of the Cottage and window boxes add a delightful touch to all the first floor windows. For guests that
want to be outside exploring Savannah...everything is only steps away. You are inside the original colony borders of GA (eg: the coveted landmark historic district). It is a 30 minute walk from one end to the other and all the coveted tourist and sightseeing sites, dining and shopping lies within those borders. If you are into sports, there's a baseball diamond, playground and dog park across the street at Beasely park, tennis courts in Forsyth Park, golfing across the river at hutchinson island, the beach at Tybee Island is a short 20 min drive or curl up with a favorite book and watch the squirrels scamper and birds sing. The Cottage has Central AC & Heat plus ceiling fans in every bedroom and the living room. Driveway parking allows for 2 cars. There is a pull out sofa bed in the living room and a pull out twin in the upstairs bedroom so technically, the home can sleep up to 7 but the owner prefers 4 or fewer occupants without the use of pullouts. If your party is > 4, check with owner as it may be acceptable but rates may be adjusted upward.
The Cottage is not for groups that don't want an owner nearby as this owner lives right behind the Cottage.
However it is for this reason that you'll find the home well-maintained with problems promptly addressed. No cobwebs like other vacation rentals with absentee landlords.
Located in the southeast quadrant of the downtown district on East Jones Lane, the Cottage sits between East Taylor Street and East Jones Street both of which are quiet ones you'll find lined with gas lights, live oaks dripping spanish moss, brick sidewalks and other homes from the 19th century. The grocery store is an 8 min walk. Watch a wedding in Whitfield Square a block away. The river is 10 blocks north. Forsyth park is 5 blocks south. So bring your suitcase...and a smile as you enjoy southern hospitality living in Taylor Cottage.
