Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Rick and Danielle,

We had a great time and we were very comfortable at the Lehua House! We especially loved the sound of the ocean at night and the birds during the day. It is such a beautiful place. And the neighborhood is great. The neighbors were really friendly and helpful.

All the best,

Charollet and Jim

Great Time in a Great House!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here with friends before, during and after our wedding on Oahu. The house was very nice, homey, roomy, well equipped with everything you need for the beach including towels, and a well stocked kitchen with everything to make whatever meal you'd like (minus the food of course, which was easily purchased at local grocery stores, or Costco nearby). Since it was Mid-June, it was very hot in the house except for the 2 bedrooms which have a/c, however even with the trade winds, the rest of the house was very very hot especially during mid day to evenings. There are ceiling fans in main room, kitchen and bedrooms, but there really needs to be another a/c in the living area since the other 2 are upstairs in bedrooms and cannot cool the entire house even with the portable fans. Overall, we had a fantastic time here, and I would recommend new curtains for the sliding back door, and rent during other times of the year that aren't quite so hot. As other reviews said, the neighborhood does look sketchy, however, it is just local working class people, and older retired locals. We were never worried about things being stolen or taken from the house while we were away. We were away a good majority of each day, and the location is great if you want some place quiet, easy shopping and parking for free! We hung out a lot in the backyard, had a cookout using the grill for hamburgers and hot dogs, it was perfect! I would give this house 5 stars, but with the massive heat inside the house, I just couldn't. However, everything else was perfect, great WiFi, DVD player, TV's were large and worked great, and the roomy kitchen was awesome! Beds were extremely comfortable which is a huge plus! (Safe in master bedroom closet isn't usable, however we felt very safe here without using it.) You should probably get beach shoes for walking on the beach as the sand is very course and does wear your soles of your feet down quickly. We gathered Sea Glass and some tiny shells on the beach each day to make some crafty items to remember our wonderful stay here! The lady who manages the house for Rick is amazing, she would come over and help with anything immediately and always very friendly. Neighbors to the right were very friendly as well! I have a friend who I recommended the house to and she's bringing her family in December! I hope she has half of the fun we had at this very special house! It truly was a wonderful experience! Thank you Rick for such a wonderful property! Mahalo!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Ginger, Thank you very much. It was our all pleasure to have you at the beach house. Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are glad it went well for your holiday. It means everything to us. We do plan on constantly upgrading the Lehua home. The Lehua home is very special place and we want to keep it that way for all who have the chance to enjoy her ambiance. In the future with changes we make, we be keeping the old Hawaiian charm with upgraded and modern amenities for the home. We have recognize the weather has been changing lately and we will be addressing this as well. The trade winds seem to have been all we needed a few years back, but today we have seen higher temps here in Hawaii lately. Thank you for your insightful review. We will address the needed items and always be looking to improve our home. Mahalo for choosing us on your Hawaiian holiday. We hope your trip is all you imagined and more. Here is your official welcome to our ohana (family). "Welcome". Keep in mind, all our ohana receive specials for future stays. Just our way of say "Mahalo". Please always remember, “We always have a beach house for you and your ohana” All the best, Rick, Danielle, Tiare and Kim

Truly Enjoyed our Stay!

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from a ten-day vacation in Hawaii and enjoyed staying at Lehua. It was in the perfect location to base out of while we did day jaunts to town (Honolulu/Waikiki) or North Shore areas.

It's an older house in Ewa Beach - and honestly, the neighborhood looks a wee bit sketchy - but there's a fence on the property and not once did I feel uncomfortable. I read one review of the house getting broken into so we were just cautious and took our electronics with us and locked the house when we left.

There are two bedrooms with A/C and the third is really a room off the living room with two twin beds - no AC and not a private room. There were three fans so my daughter and her fiance slept in that room with all three fans going. Because of the effects from the hurricanes, the weather is HUMID. So other than the two bedrooms, the house was HOT. But that's not a reflection on the house - just residual from the weather.

PROS:

- Great communication with Rick on booking the house

- Ocean front. Nothing else to say! Okay, so the sand has eroded and there's just rocks but the backyard is OCEAN FRONT. So nice having a cup of coffee in the morning, watching the sun rise over Honolulu and enjoying the spray.

- Fully stocked kitchen. Not food-wise but plenty of dishes, cookware and the like.

- Plenty of towels - both beach and regular towels.

- Washer and dryer - to wash all those towels after daily excursions to the beach.

- A few items like beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkels, beach umbrella (though it was broken when we opened it)

- Gated yard.

- BBQ grill (though we didn't use it)

CONS

- No real third bedroom

- No A/C in the house

- Sketchy neighborhood

Because my ohana is from Hawaii and my father and brother (and his family) still live there, Rick approved us having a small family gathering. My brother, his wife, two sons, daughter in law, and two grandkids along with my dad got together for the most enjoyable evening ever! Though my brother and his family were roasting in the heat - apparently they live central Oahu in Wahiawa where it's cooler, lol.

There is a neighborhood dog who visited us a couple of times and I suspect he is the one who left us presents on the grass in the morning, but as I was missing my two pups back home, I didn't mind picking it up. Just FYI for others who will stay at Lehua.

Mahalo, Rick (and Danielle and Kim). We will be back and will hope to stay at Lehua again.

Cute home for a family but a little hot inside

  • 3 of 5

My family of 5 adults and one granddaughter stayed at the Lehua and we enjoyed the home but it was a little hot inside even opening up the windows. There is an ac window unit in both bedrooms but of course not enough to cool the whole house. When we would leave for the day and close the windows and doors, returning to the home was a little too hot for us. Only the bedrooms were cool, rest of the house was hot. It was a well equipped home with plenty of towels, dishes and appliances. Nice neighbors. We were looking forward to walking the beach, but unfortunately, there was not enough beach to walk on. Tides were always up to the wall so we were not able to enjoy the beach directly in back of the house. Lots of rocks. We had to drive to other beaches to go swimming. Have to rent a car to go places - we did a lot of driving it seems like. Plenty of fast food places and grocery stores near by - was a plus. House needs a little more detailing of cleaning though. Owners were very accommodating and nice and communication was good. Thanks for your help.

Owner's Response: Aloha Linda, Thank you for choosing us for your stay. We are looking forward to your return in the future. We unfortunately have been hit by a heat wave and you did feel the effects. Normally our trade winds blow and this does offer a cooling down for us. It looks like our beach has been reduced recently by high tides. The conditions may be changing do to rise in water levels. We will make a note of this on our listing for future guest. During our high season Kim our staff, has been working hard to keep the homes in perfect shape. Please feel free to let us know right away and we can address any issues as quickly as possible. Thank you again. The island of Oahu does have many sights and driving is a part of the island, if you wish to see them. Thank you very much once again, we hope to see you on a future stay. May the aloha last a lifetime...

2nd visit to Lehua

  • 5 of 5

We very enjoyed our second visit to Lehua. The house was very clean. The owners continue to be accommodating and great communicators. This was our 4th stay at their properties. While we have enjoyed all of them, we like Lehua for the covered lanai and being directly on the beach. We are currently planning our next visit!

Cute Cottage Beach House

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week at the beach house. Plenty of room for my inlaws, my sister, my daughter, my husband and I. Very clean and neat. Home had all the supplies we needed for the week. We rented 2 cars and there was plenty of room in the driveway for us. We really liked the washer and dryer in the outside room. Pictures depict property very well. We loved the back yard with the palm trees and the neighbors plumeria tree were lovely. Direct beach access. Long walks on the beach were quiet, its like your own private beach! We even met the next door neighbors o the righ, they were very friendly. We will be back!

Perfect Beach Home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at two of the other properties managed by these owners in Ewa Beach. All have been excellent and Lehua is our favorite. The kitchen is spacious and well organized. There is a covered lanai with large table overlooking the lawn, beach and ocean. The house is very clean. A plus for us is the washer dryer is in the separate garage so the noise and heat is outside the living area. The owners are outstanding in communications and quick to respond to questions about the house.
