Nestled high above Lake Travis (near the famous Oasis Restaurant/Mansfield Dam and only 25-30 minutes from downtown Austin) Lake Travis Lake House is a 10 acre retreat with spectacular views of the main body of Lake Travis. This gorgeous 3-bedroom, 2-luxury-full-bath home was completely remodeled in 2005. Chefs will be amazed at the ultra-high-end kitchen, featuring a Viking Stove, Sub-Zero Refrigerator, granite countertops and imported travertine sink. Designers will marvel at the floor-to-ceiling travertine bathrooms, with an oversized soaking tub and magnificent European-style travertine shower. All will sleep well in the tastefully-decorated fully-furnished bedrooms.
Imagine sitting out on the large porch watching the sun set over the lake, strolling around the 10 acres admiring the other 'residents', including rare white peacocks, beautiful black cochin chickens, among others!
I am one of the few of us who were actually born in the Austin area, but I've always had the urge to travel and live abroad. I've lived about half of my adult life all over Europe, North Africa, Latin America and Asia and loved it. I also went to school in Boston and lived in Washington, D.C. There was always something about Austin, though, that kept drawing me back. Once I decided to leave the stressful corporate grind, I decided to find a place that would be less than 45 minutes from a major progressive city and where I could have land and a great water view. I simply couldn't find anything that compared to Austin and when I found this property, I knew I would have it for life.
Tom Stevenson purchased this house in 2004
The completely renovated 1940's farmhouse sits on the last 10 acres of an original 2000 acre ranch that is now surrounded by canyon land perserve. The homesite was choosen by the original owners for its outstanding views and its park like setting. The moment you arrive you will feel right at home. We encourage all of our guests to settle in and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Our experience at this Lake Travis home was beyond our expectations. The home is wonderful and the location provides country relaxation with easy access to Austin and surrounding communities. We easily did day trips to Fredrickburg and San Antonio and returning home was always a relaxing end to the day. Fresh eggs and vegetables, acerage for morning or evening walks and the respectful and accomodating hosts were all bonus touches that made our vacation one of the best we have ever had. If you have a chance to rent this home, take it!
Despite Tom being out of town, he was still very easy to work with. From the get-go, the whole process was simple and the property is breathtaking. Lovely, remodeled home from the 40s is spacious enough to sleep 10 comfortably. The property is also dog-friendly and our pups loved all 10 acres and their new peacock friends! Highly recommend this property for anyone in need of a vacation or especially a beautiful venue for any event!
The property was beautiful! The twins and I enjoyed walking around to see if we could find the peacock and identifying all of the garden vegetables and seeing if the chikens had laid some eggs. Tom brought us some fresh eggs for breakfast. We truly had a relaxing weekend.
Five of us came for two night staff retreat and did not want to leave! What a gorgeous location! The pictures do not capture how lovely it is. In the morning I had breakfast with two white pracocks and hummingbirds and butterflies-magical! The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms sumptuous! I loved cooking in the kitchen and Tom the owner even delivered farm fresh eggs! We also had fresh tomatoes from the garden and ate figs right off the tree! Our only reccomendation is to replace the den sofa with a sleeper sofa and to make sure housekeeper cleans under sofas. The rest of the house was spotless! Short ride to go swim in the lake or have drinks at the Oasis but frankly I had a hard time wantung to leave the front porch it was that beautiful!!!
A wonderful place to get away from it all. Fresh eggs, peacocks, and a fresh garden. Would definantly love to stay longer next time.
This property is fantastic and more convenient than it lets on. Tom is a very accommodating host with a well appointed home on a large and well landscaped piece of land at high elevation over-looking the lake. Plenty of parking space in the event of multiple guests, HEB is only 5 minutes away, and if you plan on taking your plans to the water there is a marina literally at the end of the private driveway and across the street.
