About The Owner

My name is Jeanette, I was born in a small town called Foxton in New Zealand. I moved to America in 1985. We purchased our home in Port Angeles in April of 1990. After living in Seattle for three years I did not want to raise my daughter in the big city.

We looked for a place that was more like NZ for us and we discovered the Olympic Peninsula! With it's majestic mountains and the Pacific Ocean, how much closer could it feel to my home country. My husband, Scott & I enjoy the relaxing, slow pace of

our area with lots of places to explore. We have been a foster home to hundreds of children in the past 22 years, many beautiful memories are made.

Kiwi West has a collection of memoirs and gifts from home. Sometimes we escape to our little vacation rental and light the fire in the wood stove and enjoy a quiet break from our busy family days. It feels warm and peaceful, just the two of us!

The Owner purchased this studio in 1990

Why The Owner chose Olympic Peninsula & Pacific Coast

We purchased our home as a duplex in 1990 and opened up the upstairs to give us all of the bedrooms for us to accommodate more foster children. The downstairs of the second part of the duplex was a little rental for some years, until 3 years ago we decided to make it into a vacation rental because it is in a tranquil area, where you can choose to relax or enjoy the many parks, beaches, rainforest and waterfalls. There is so much to do in the Olympic National Park alone. We are located close to the Port Angeles airport, Victoria BC ferry dock and only 2-3 hours from the big city of Seattle.

What makes this studio unique

One can enjoy the peaceful, relaxing, smoke-free environment. Sit out on the deck and watch the chickens make their daily rounds in the back yard. Or on the front porch on a beautiful sunny day and see the majestic mountains, for a long time they have snow on their peaks. Or if you like to bike, hike, fish or hunt, golf or surf, we are close to the Dungeness River, Voice of America; Dungeness Spit, Olympic Game Farm, Lavendar Farms in Sequim, Hurricane Ridge, victorian seaport; Port Townsend, Jamestown Casino and Sol Duc Hot Springs.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Kiwi West is the Best!

My wife and I stayed with Jeanette and Scott for two months at Kiwi West. The studio had everything we needed and then some. Convenient location to downtown Port Angeles with beautiful views of the Olympic mountain range.

Kiwi West is a great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Kiwi West for 3 months and it was a wonderful place to call "home" for a little while. Jeanette and Scott were very friendly and welcoming hosts. The apartment is spacious with all the comforts and kitchen supplies we could have needed. And we even enjoyed fresh eggs from the chickens and ducks in the backyard. The location is convenient for all activities in and around Port Angeles and Olympic National Park, plus the apartment is stocked with guidebooks and suggestions of things to do in the area. We would strongly recommend staying at Kiwi West during your next visit to the Olympic Peninsula. We know we will when we return. Thank you being such wonderful hosts! -Heidi & Dan

Owner's Response: Thank you Heidi and Dan, it was wonderful to have you stay in Kiwi West. Dan riding his bike to work in the thick of winter was amazing. Good hard working folks that enjoyed exploring the Parks on your days off. It felt good to know there were people living in our studio that loved the cozy warm nest. We would love to see you again!

Kiwi West was everything and more

  • 5 of 5

We recently came to visit the Seattle area and the Olympic Peninsula and found this little Gem amongst the property locations. This place as perfect. The owners Jeanette and Scott were awesome. Super friendly and very accommodating. The place was in a great central location to access the national park and several trails within minutes depending on which trails or sights you want to see. Easy access to Vancouver Island from here as well. The house was super quaint and charming. Very comfortable. The berries were unbelievable in August and there is fruit trees all over the place. The eggs were super tasty too. Nothing beats eggs fresh off the roost. Kitchen had everything you need for cooking at home. Everything was really clean. Super comfortable all the way around. Would highly recommend this for vacationers in the area.

wonderful place in P.A.

  • 5 of 5

This place was simply perfect. Clean, comfortable. Fabulous eggs from the backyard hens. Lovely walkable neighborhood. Jeanette and Scott were helpful when needed and otherwise I hardly knew they were around. Port Angeles is such a great base camp for exploring the Olympic Peninsula, and if you are just 2 or 3 people, this place is perfect. I hope to go back next summer!!

Perfect, Cozy home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful nest had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. We came to the Olympic Peninsula to see the sights and the national parks. We took several day trips and it was so nice to come back to such a great place. The apartment had everything we needed. The kitchen was stocked with many things we needed for cooking, including fresh eggs from the chicken coop in the back yard. The bathroom had many essentials in case we forgot anything. The bed amazingly comfortable, I slept so well. The chickens were a lot of fun to watch when we were there and the view of the mountains was spectacular. Also the wood burning stove really made the nest so comfortable and homey. We didn't want to leave! Jeanette & Scott were very kind & helpful. The location was great for us because there were several restaurants very close by (Sabai Thai, Toga's Soup House and Gastropub were out favorites), grocery stores, coffee shops, book shops, outdoor stores and the ferry to Victoria. We went to Ediz Hook in Port Angeles every evening to see the birds and look for seals who frequent the harbor. The view of the mountains from Ediz Hook was incredible (when the clouds let up) and we didn't see them as well anywhere else. We also went to Dungeness Spit in Sequim where we saw a lot of wildlife. The trails were beautiful. We drove to Neah Bay via Highway 12 which was an amazing experience. The Cape Flattery trail at the Makah reservation was really incredible. There was so much we loved about our trip but the most important part was having such a lovely place to stay. The experience at the cozy nest for two was really wonderful.
