Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

This Craftsman guest house is perfect for any family wishing to experience the best of Santa Monica and Venice. We're located three blocks from the beach, walking distance to Venice Beach and the Santa Monica Pier and 1.5 blocks from Main Street. On Main Street is fabulous shopping, famous restaurants (like Wolfgang Puck's Chinois) and one of LA's best Farmer's Markets on Sunday mornings.

The bathroom is off the main bedroom. The bunk bed in the second bedroom is a twin over full, so it can accommodate three people. We also offer a pack 'n' play (like a small crib) and a booster seat (like a high chair) at no extra charge. Most importantly, we live in the front house so we're available to help you if you need it and can help you plan your Los Angeles/Santa Monica vacation.

The house has two HDTV's -- one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. Both have satellite and both get HBO in addition to hundreds of other channels. There's also a DVD player, games and books so you'll never be bored.

The kitchen has service for 12, so you won't have to wash dishes after every meal. We've also left some snacks and other essentials in the kitchen for you.

The bedrooms all have super-comfortable mattresses and down-like comforters. Both bedrooms, the living room and the office area have ceiling fans to keep the temperature comfortable.

We provide the shampoo, conditioner and body wash as well as luxurious towels. We even have beach towels so you don't have to bring them with you. Plus, there's a washer/dryer just for the house so you don't have to pack so much stuff.

We want you to have a great time in Santa Monica. We look forward to seeing you!

About Melissa

We always wanted to live by the ocean. When a 1911 Craftsman cottage became available, we bought it right away. 'We love living here. We can walk almost everywhere and the weather is nearly perfect most of the time.'

Melissa purchased this house in 2004

Why Melissa chose Santa Monica

We love having a guest house in our back yard. The house has its own entrance on the side of our property, so guests have plenty of privacy. However, it's also nice to share a yard (and sometimes a drink) with our guests as our children play together in the yard.

For those who stay at the house, it's a vacation destination. For us, this is where we live and we love to share our favorite places and activities with our guests.

What makes this house unique

It's great to be less than a ten minute walk to the beach and a quick bus ride away from the Third Street Promenade. We love that we hardly drive at all on the weekends and yet we can go to great restaurants, visit the Santa Monica Pier, go to the beach and do some fabulous shopping...all walking distance from our house.

Santa Monica

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for what we needed and was exactly what what was described on the website. Quiet, quaint and comfortable. We we're walking distance to the pier, Venice beach, a Starbucks and WholeFoods (although a bit of a walk). The kitchen was the most well stocked I've seen and ready for any cooking needs. Starved when we arrived we were happy to find welcome snacks to greet us. Melissa was very helpful with information and tips about what to see and do.

Quaint Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Tarsky guesthouse. It's location was ideal to the Main Street restaurants and an easy walk to the ocean. Melissa was a great hostess. She added nice touches by having snacks, coffee and water to get us started for our stay. We had plenty of room for our family of five staying plus our son, that's a resident of Santa Monica, would stop by to visit. The onsite parking was a bonus for our rental car because we knew we always had a spot to come back to. We packed light and took advantage of the washer and dryer provided. We shopped at Gelson's grocery store which is not far from the guesthouse. Also, the beach towels, umbrellas, chairs and toys for our three year old grandson were very appreciated. I would recommend the Tarsky house as a place to stay for your visit to Santa Monica.

Great family beach retreat

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't be happier with the Hill Street Cottage. From the location, the amenities, to the warm reception from the owner, our recent trip to LA was quite memorable. Hillary and Brian made everything so easy. We have 3 children (8, 6 and 2) and the bunkbed with Pack N Play was perfect. Very clean and bright, comfortable bed, excellent shower! Private and quiet as the cottage is behind the main house which was important on the nights the kids slept with the windows open to enjoy the cool Santa Monica evenings!. Hope we will be able to return on our next trip!

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Melissa for sharing your home with us. We had a wonderful time. You were so helpful from start to finish with this process. The house was perfect and just what we needed. What a great location. We walked to so many places but also loved having a parking spot for our car. We would highly recommend your place to anyone looking to stay in Santa Monica!

Perfect stay

  • 5 of 5

The Hill Street cottage was a perfect place for our four day vacation. The cottage has everything you might need and is close to all the area attractions. We especially loved coming back after a busy day, it felt like we were coming home. So much better than a hotel!!

Charming Guest Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 21 year old daughter enjoyed staying at Hill Street Cottage and recommend it. It has the feel of an old fashioned summer beach cottage and has a great location close to Main St. and the beach. It has wood floors and there was plenty of room for us to spread out a little and read on the sofa or the dining room table. Its biggest weakness is that the bathroom is accessed via the bedroom with the queen bed, but that wasn't a big deal for us. Melissa has included many amenities, including two tvs, shampoo/conditioner/soap dispenser on bathtub wall, area map book and more. Wifi was easy to connect to and you get to park your car in her driveway. It's a bit of a walk (a mile or so) to the third street promenade and pier. We walked it once and the other time we drove as there is a large public parking lot at Colorado Ave. (You can also take a bus.) There's a Starbucks at the corner of Main and Hill, and Main St. offers many restaurants and shops. At this price point you get a lot more space than at a hotel and it's fun to be in a neighborhood.
