Great Beach and Lagoon View

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This neat vintage cottage has been in our family since it was built in 1980. We have VAULTED tung in grove ceiling in the enormous living room with 2 ceiling fans. Colorful hardwood floors give this home a warm “at the beach” tropical feeling.

The master bedroom has a king size bed. It takes up the entire upstairs and has a bathroom. Downstairs bedroom #1 has two double beds and bedroom #2 has twin beds. There are 2 sleeper sofas in the living room. The separate dining room has a large cypress dining table. This is a NON-SMOKING home, but is allowed on the large balcony that opens from the living room.

Your pet is welcomed with opened arms. Simply check the box to pay the non-refundable, $100.00 pet fee. There is cable TV in the living area and master bedroom. The home has Wi-Fi. There are ceiling fans in every room except the fully equipped kitchen.

The large deck has unobstructed views of the Gulf and Lagoon. There is an approx. 400 foot walk to the beach. Less than a mile from shopping and restaurants..

This home has been in my family since it was built in 1980. I have recently purchased it from my mother. It is a work in progress, but very comfortable. I appreciate any and all feedback.

Call or email for additional information.

March, June, July and August require a 7 night stay which should go from Saturday to Saturday.

About Rachel Rhodes

My grandparents built this house in 1980 after hurricane Frederick swept their first house away. In 1990, they decided to rebuild. My mother purchased the house from them and it was moved from its original location to its current location. In 2014 my two children ( 10 and 7) and I purchased the house from my mother in order to preserve all of the memories from childhood and have a place where my siblings and their families could reconnect.

Rachel Rhodes purchased this house in 2014

Why Rachel Rhodes chose Gulf Shores

My Grandparents began traveling to Gulf Shores from Baton Rouge when their children (5 of them) were very small. It was a much longer journey in those days, but they thought is was well worth it. The beaches were white, the water was clear and there was no city noise to distract them. The first house they built was one large room with several beds. Everyone was comfortable, and it was the togetherness that they craved. They said it was like camping (we now call it the camp.) When that house was swept away by hurricane Frederick in 1979 (incidentally, Frederick was my grandfather's name and is also my son's name) they rebuilt bigger and better and right on the beach! With a quickly growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren, they knew that 3 bedrooms was not enough. In 1997 they built Lagniappe 2, a beautiful, 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom home in the place of Lagniappe 1. Lagniappe 1 was purchased by my mother and moved to its current location. They had to take down all of the power lines between two properties and put it on a flatbed.

My mother rented the property and kept dates available for my siblings and I to come stay. In 2014, it was too much for her to manage any longer, so I purchased it from her. My goal it to make as many improvements as possible and preserve the memories of my childhood. I also meet my siblings and friends down here as much as possible. I grew up here from the age of 4 until I left after finishing college. My two children and I currently live in St. Louis, Mo . We hope that you will make as many memories as we have and will come back year after year to visit this beautiful beach.

What makes this house unique

The house is conveniently located just steps from a liquor store, ice cream parlor, convenience store, restaurant and steamed seafood carry out.

I would never stay here again, very disappointed with this property .

  • 1 of 5

This house is in dire need of remodeling and a deep cleaning. There was mold in the kitchen, bathrooms and around air ducts. There was no usable patio furniture on the deck. The furniture in the living room was so dirty I covered everything with blankets so we had a place to sit. My boyfriend went barefoot one day and his feet were black by evening, and when he showered he left black footprints in the tub. Plus the bathroom was so tiny it made me claustrophobic. The electric range had 4 burners, but only 3 worked and all burners were not level at all. Then there were the vertical blinds over the sliding glass door that was missing so many panels privacy was impossible. The kitchen cabinets were made out of plywood and the paint was peeling on them. Around all the kitchen cabinet handles the cabinets were black from repeated use and no cleaning! Area and throw rugs were filthy. We also saw 3 large roaches during our stay . We had no hot water when we arrived and another issue the next day and the owner did get them fixed but insinuated that it was my fault!!! I took pictures and will post them later today. Run, do not walk away from this property!

Owner's Response: I am unable to explain why some people do and say the things that they do. I have to believe that their struggles are greater than mine. This tenant was untruthful from the beginning and it got progressively worse. After numerous messages from her I called and offered her a full refund to vacate the property, to which she declined. Then she proceeded to message me and advise that she would “not bother me for the rest of her stay” if I would refund 1/2 of her money. This was after rental payment check had been returned with insufficient funds and she refused to pay the pet fee. I also sent a plumber and an electrician to the property both times for tripped circuit breakers due to overloaded circuits. Sadly, this is the abbreviated version of all of her transgressions. I normally would not entertain the idea of responding to a bad review, as I realize it is impossible to make everyone happy and I would invite anyone reading this to please read my other reviews and reach out if you have any questions. This is a great little house and it it extremely reasonably priced for its location.

We fully enjoyed our stay-just needed it to be a little longer! House was the perfect size for us. It had everything we needed and was convient to the beach and shrimpfest! Rachel was very professional and easy to contact. We met the housekeeper and she was very sweet and gave us alot of good information -she assured us we could contact her if we needed anything. A great time!

Perfect house! Will stay again!

  • 5 of 5

This beach house is PERFECT, especially for larger groups. We had 8 ladies going for one last bit of summer over Labor Day weekend. We got exactly what we were hoping for. The house was in great condition, and comfortably slept us all. There are two great restaurants, a yummy ice cream shop, small grocery store, and package store literally right across the street. The beach access is also right across the street and SO convenient. With all the fun right there within a few steps, we never felt rushed or in need of directions. Rachel is amazing and will get back to you with answers to all your questions very quickly. She even called me back from her child's school pickup line so I wouldn't have to wait! If you choose this house, you won't regret it!

Guthrie, OK

Lagniappe is very comfortable

  • 4 of 5

This house is in a great location. It is right across the street from a restaurant, ice cream shop, package store, and convenience store, and only a short drive to many restaurants and other activities. It is a bit rundown, but it is super comfy and easy to relax in. It is completely functional and provides any of the comforts of home. We have stayed here multiple times, and only wished that it had a pool! The owner is great to work with, and has beach toys and chairs available for use during your stay! This is so nice and helpful. Completely unexpected but appreciated.
