This neat vintage cottage has been in our family since it was built in 1980. We have VAULTED tung in grove ceiling in the enormous living room with 2 ceiling fans. Colorful hardwood floors give this home a warm “at the beach” tropical feeling.

The master bedroom has a king size bed. It takes up the entire upstairs and has a bathroom. Downstairs bedroom #1 has two double beds and bedroom #2 has twin beds. There are 2 sleeper sofas in the living room. The separate dining room has a large cypress dining table. This is a NON-SMOKING home, but is allowed on the large balcony that opens from the living room.

Your pet is welcomed with opened arms. Simply check the box to pay the non-refundable, $100.00 pet fee. There is cable TV in the living area and master bedroom. The home has Wi-Fi. There are ceiling fans in every room except the fully equipped kitchen.

The large deck has unobstructed views of the Gulf and Lagoon. There is an approx. 400 foot walk to the beach. Less than a mile from shopping and restaurants..

This home has been in my family since it was built in 1980. I have recently purchased it from my mother. It is a work in progress, but very comfortable. I appreciate any and all feedback.

About Rachel Rhodes

My grandparents built this house in 1980 after hurricane Frederick swept their first house away. In 1990, they decided to rebuild. My mother purchased the house from them and it was moved from its original location to its current location. In 2014 my two children ( 10 and 7) and I purchased the house from my mother in order to preserve all of the memories from childhood and have a place where my siblings and their families could reconnect.

Why Rachel Rhodes chose Alabama

My Grandparents began traveling to Gulf Shores from Baton Rouge when their children (5 of them) were very small. It was a much longer journey in those days, but they thought is was well worth it. The beaches were white, the water was clear and there was no city noise to distract them. The first house they built was one large room with several beds. Everyone was comfortable, and it was the togetherness that they craved. They said it was like camping (we now call it the camp.) When that house was swept away by hurricane Frederick in 1979 (incidentally, Frederick was my grandfather's name and is also my son's name) they rebuilt bigger and better and right on the beach! With a quickly growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren, they knew that 3 bedrooms was not enough. In 1997 they built Lagniappe 2, a beautiful, 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom home in the place of Lagniappe 1. Lagniappe 1 was purchased by my mother and moved to its current location. They had to take down all of the power lines between two properties and put it on a flatbed.

My mother rented the property and kept dates available for my siblings and I to come stay. In 2014, it was too much for her to manage any longer, so I purchased it from her. My goal it to make as many improvements as possible and preserve the memories of my childhood. I also meet my siblings and friends down here as much as possible. I grew up here from the age of 4 until I left after finishing college. My two children and I currently live in St. Louis, Mo . We hope that you will make as many memories as we have and will come back year after year to visit this beautiful beach.

The house is dated, but still a very nice property. We loved the convenience of the access to the beach and the view from the deck. It is close to many restaurants and souvenir shops. We definitely loved the ice cream shop across the street. My only negative comment would be that the cleaning wasn't great. There was a good bit of sand left on the floor in the kitchen, dining area and living room. Also, quite a bit of sand on the furniture in the living room. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely stay here again.

Cozy and convenient

We had a great time at this cozy home. The beach is a short walk and across the street is a wonderful ice cream shop, fresh fish market (they will cook it for you too) and restaurant. The beach is wonderful. The home had everything we needed for our time there. Thank you.

The property wasn't cleaned properly . And they don't tell you when hurricane season is. So if it rains the whole-time they just say oh well your fault. And he building really needs updated underneath is rotted in molded. Would not recommend this place until it's fixed.

Best Family Vacation Ever!!

We loved this "Beach House" so much. It is conveniently located 1/2 block off of the beach road, across the street from a convenient store & a restaurant & bar. We enjoyed spending time on the large balcony. The large living room with several different sofa sets & tables. Plenty of room for all of us when the kids came up for a visit for a day. Even our 4 legged babies had fun too. The owner Rachel was great to deal with & very accommodating. Would definitely come back in a heartbeat.

Fun vacation home for a large family

We enjoyed our week stay at this home, we have rented other homes in the area, but this one was accommodating to a large group for us to entertain. We had a few issues during our stay, but the owner was nice to fix the issues or offer solutions.
