Une Belle Maison à Vaison!
We loved staying at this lovely home in the middle of Provence and wine country. The house and garden could be something out of a magazine – it was everything I expected of a traditional home in Provence. The hosts, Martine and Léo, made us feel very welcome. Since there were only the two of us, it was lovely to be able to visit with them and practice our French! We appreciated the special touches such as wine and fresh flowers on our arrival, showing us around the home and the market, and introducing us to local merchants.
Vaison is an ideal village to visit. We spent two weeks there and did not even need a car. Within a short walk there is the main square with patisseries, boulangeries, and cafes, a Super U grocery store, excellent restaurants, Roman ruins, the old cité, lots of hair salons, and many nice shops. We were even able to attend an organ concert at the cathedral. There are many cultural activities in the summer. And the Tuesday market is THE BEST!
The bus stop was a short walk from the house. From there, you can get to the Orange SNCF station in about 45 minutes. We rented a car (from the Super U grocery store) for a few days so we could explore the fabulous surrounding area including Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Merci to Martine and Léo for a wonderful experience!
Nous remercions beaucoup Pamela et Dan .

It was truly a Home away from home
We spent a marvelous week in Martine and Leo’s bit of heaven in Vaison-la Romaine. We were greeted so warmly that we felt like part of the family. The house was well-equipped - plenty of pots, dishes, essentials like salt, pepper, spices, tea, coffee, oil, vinegar;lots of towels. The garden was so beautiful, it was a pleasure to just sit and look at it. We enjoyed using the spa, which was set in the garden. The downtown area, full of restaurants and shops , was just a short walk away. A short walk in the opposite direction was a huge supermarket with every possible thing you would need.
We just loved the house, garden, and Vaison, and especially the warm hospitality of Martine and Leo,
Merci beaucoup à Kathleen et Bill ,
Pour leur charmant commentaire , pour leurs appréciations
et surtout pour leur gentillesse , nous penserons souvent
à eux , car ils forment tous deux un couple très sympathique.

Wonderful House Close to the Centre of Vaison-la-Romain
We arrived on Saturday and were warmly greeted by the owners, Leo and Martine who showed us around and explained how everything worked before leaving. The house is beautifully presented with a very pretty and secluded private garden. The location is very quiet with very little traffic. In fact most of the day, barely a car passes. However you are still within easy walking distance of the town centre and also the old town. There are plenty of good shops in walking distance including a couple of boulangeries.
The kitchen is well appointed with new units, a good cooker, fridge freezer and plenty of utensils. There is a modern dishwasher and washing machine. The dining area and the lounge are very comfortable. There are four bedrooms which will comfortably accommodate 2 people each. There is a nice bath with a shower. The WiFi was excellent if you need it. We were able to park our car in a garage at the rear of the property which was great since the weather was very hot. The outside has plenty of comfortable chairs and two tables for eating. There is a beautiful vine covering one of the tables and we understand Leo and Martin have plans to extend it. We used the hot tub on a few occasions which was very relaxing. The garden is beautiful and the three olive trees give plenty of shade.
Vaison-la-Romain is an excellent place to stay and also a great base to explore the surrounding area. Plenty of scenery, places of interest, great vineyards, wonderful food etc. I can't speak highly enough of the place.
Leo and Martine are passionate about their house and we were only too glad to have been able to stay there.
Truly lovely - highly recommended
Our stay in Vaison-la-Romaine was truly lovely. The house was perfect. It had every single amenity that we could possibly want (including a washing machine, good kitchen equipment & supplies, lots of big thick towels and comfortable outdoor lounge chairs in a beautiful garden). Martine and Leo were extremely helpful. The house had charm and comfort. We closed up the shutters each morning to keep the house cool then opened them in the evening. We stayed during a heat wave and we were never hot in this home. The bedrooms were spacious with excellent mattresses, big windows and beautiful curtains... and each room had a fan. The location of this home is PERFECT for a visit in this area of France. From the house, it is an 8-minute walk to just about anywhere including the Roman ruins, the grocery store, the castle and as well, we enjoyed almost-nightly swims in the river. One aspect of our visit that we found overwhelming was the market. If you plan to visit it (Tuesday mornings), be prepared for street upon street of vendors loosely organized by their wares. It went on throughout the entire old town and seemed to be endless. If truly explored, it would take hours. Literally. During our stay in Vaison-la-Romaine, we spent 5 hours at a cooking class / dinner (Cooking in Provence) with Sabine. This is a very highly recommended activity. Her class is located in her home on a vineyard with olive trees. Check out Things to Do in Trip Advisor in Vaison-la-Romaine. We were a group of 7 (two families) and we recommend Martine and Leo’s home without hesitation.
