Excellent weekend stay
Oakhurst is a great size house for large numbers, we had 9 adults and 3 toddlers and were not on top of each other. Great facilities in kitchen, fantastic living space, and we all enjoyed tennis and pool. There is a cot and highchairs in the property which was a welcome addition.
Couldn't quite walk into heart of new forest from the house so car was required but that was fine. We were v entertained when in the property and only left on our days cycling which drove into the heart for. Would stay again and recommend.
Great house, badly let down by broken fixtures/fittings, very tired decoration and cleanliness
The house is magnificent! It is well equipped, spacious and has plenty to entertain the whole extended family.
Sadly the decorative state of the property throughout is poor. No-one expects perfection in a holiday home, but you also don't expect bowed wooden flooring, missing wallpaper and bathroom tiles, stained carpets throughout. However, the state of decoration is nothing compared to the endless list of broken fixtures and fittings: a faulty and leaking freezer, extractor fans that don't work, temperamental lighting, broken shaver sockets, blocked shower drains, leaking showers and a bath that had even had its pop-up waste removed (making an essential feature of any house with young children unusable).
You should also be aware that the ground floor shower fills with waste water from the washing machine. A fault that I was advised had 'always existed'. And the outside drain for kitchen waste water was blocked on our arrival, meaning dirty dish water was spread across the outside path (it had clearly been blocked for some time but was fixed after 4 days of our stay).
Six of our party of 11 guests gave up and left the house after 5 nights. I think it was the multiple power outages caused by the main fuse tripping that was their final straw.
The local pub is excellent, but I would not advise walking to it as there is no safe path for young children. And the 15 minute walk to the sea is no-longer accessible to the public - locked farm gates block the path.
If booking this property please consider that the pictures on-line are at least 10 years old.
Such a shame that what could be a fabulous family location has been so seriously let down by its owners and the description on line.
Lovely big house
We had a great great week here with our children and grandchildren. Plenty of room inside and out. Loved the tennis court.
Stunning grounds in a beautiful location. It was a dream family holiday - more than we could have wished for!
We had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful house. The location is excellent to access the new forest and the coast which our son loved!
What a great property, fab location for the new forest. Great size house, brilliant garden lots of space and very well equipped! Thanks Mick a very easy property to rent and easy to manage rental.
Oakhurst is located about half a mile south of Marchwood on the road to Hythe. It is on the eastern fringe of the New Forest and within the new National Park. You can walk to Hythe, where there is a regular ferry service to Southampton, along a country lane and a public footpath via Hythe marina. Hythe and Marchwood have numerous shops, restaurants, pubs and local amenities. The New Forest has obvious attractions such as the ponies and the picturesque village of Beaulieu which is about 5 miles away. Southampton is a major city and port with several new shopping centres and a Premier League football team.
