We stayed here for three weeks in July and August and highly recommend this beautiful home to anyone planning on staying in the Westport area. This home is really lovely with quality furnishings and not at all what you'd expect to find in a rental home. The downstairs entry way leads into a large, fully equipped kitchen with beautiful wooden cabinets and a solarium with a great view of Croagh Patrick. Also to the right of the entry way French doors lead into the living room with a fieldstone fireplace and the dining area. The dining area which has a large marble table that seats ten people comfortably can also be accessed from the kitchen. The downstairs bedroom has a walk-in closet and a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Next to the bedroom is a good size half bath and a real comfortable den for watching TV, a DVD or to just relax and read a good book. Upstairs are three more nice bedrooms and two more bathrooms with one in-suite. The views from this house are really spectacular with Croagh Patrick almost in the backyard and across the road Clew Bay with its islands and mountains, which can be seen from every room in the front of the house. It was most enjoyable at meal time to sit at the dining room table and see the beautiful view of Clew Bay through the living room windows.

If you want to climb Croagh Patrick the entrance is approximately a mile or so from the house. The statue of St. Patrick is a short walk from the Gift Shop and you get a really nice view of the bay from there. Directly across the street form the entrance is the Famine Ship and the path behind the ship leads to the ruins of the Murrisk Friary, which was founded in 1457.

Westport is a charming town with lots of nice shops. Don't miss Carrig Dun and the Foxford Shop across the street from each other, as they are especially nice. Also a great place to have lunch is Curry's Cottage a delightful little Tea Room and Bakery. It was one of our favorite places and always crowded, but well worth the wait. The food is very good and not expensive. There is lots to do around Westport and some very pretty scenic drives.

A word of caution - if you're from the states and plan on changing your dollars to euros when you arrive in Ireland don't bring any hundred dollar bills. None of the shops or banks will accept them and there is a service charge every time you use your credit card.

This home is outstanding and awesome ! !

  • 5 of 5

This home is truly a gem ! It was exactly what we hoped & needed for our family. Working with the owner Carmel was absolutely a breeze as she was prompt and forthright about everything. You couldn't ask for a better person to rent from on your holiday. This home is even better in person and the photos can't portray the flow of it and the amenities that are there for use. The location of the house to Wesport is ideal for trips to town or stay home one night and have a BBQ which we did with family from Ballaghaderreen who came to visit. Everything is in tip top shape, easy to use with instructions covering use of appliances etc... Carmel addressed everything including a basket of day trip brochures. We will be back "home" again soon and will rent this home again. Cheers, Harry Browne & Family

Great rental home

  • 5 of 5

This home is a perfect rental house - beautiful views of Clew Bay in the front of the house and Crough Patrick the back. The house was very spacious and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything, we cooked many great meals there! This home was about 10 minutes outside of the lovely town on Westport, but it was a quick ride into town to the store or for lunch /dinner. The location was also great for day trips, there are so many things to do within an hour or so of the house. I would recommended renting this lovely home and maybe someday my family can do it again!

Owner's Response: Many times I thought of saying "Thanks" for your nice review I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. We love the place and unfortunately we feel everyone should love it... Was it your sister or inlaw who hoped to rent it, must track them down and tell them to come back at any time, would love to facilitate them. It sure is a gorgeous spot... We are spending August there this year and look forward to that. Regards, Carmel and Pat McDermott

The heritage town of Westport offers a magnificient blend of traditional and cosmopolitan, from the cosiest corner of an old style pub with traditional music sessions to state of the art modern shops, hotels & conference

facilities. Sea and fresh water angling are major attractions. Westport has been awarded the coveted title of

Ireland's tidiest town in 2001, 2006 & 2008 . Located at the south east corner of Clew Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, the town has many picturesque features, most notably it's tree lined, flower decorated, boulevard known as the Mall with several stone bridges over the Carrowbeg River.
