Our cabin in nestled in 20 acres of forest on Shingobee bay.
This was our third time renting the cabin. We love Shingobee Bay, having spent a lot of family time there since the 1960s. The lake is beautiful. The bike trails are the best anywhere, right outside your door.
The cabin is extremely comfortable with a fire pit in the yard overlooking the lake. We made good use of the basement TV room for movies at night. Kitchen is fully equipped. Dock and swim platform are great for warm summer days.
Thank you so much.
We stayed at this cabin last summer also, and booked a second summer. We have been here in June both times. Growing up in MN, it's that ideal up north cabin for making memories with family. It has a nice longer driveway with the cabin tucked right into the woods of big pine and beautiful birch trees. The driveway is nice for smaller kids to go up and down on their bikes, and scooters and still have enough room for parking. There is a nice front and back yard for for dogs and kids to run around too. When you walk into the cabin there is a great porch for hanging out on summer nights, with a radio and a ceiling fan. Appliances work great. There is a lot of books, games and puzzles. My boys are 12 and twin boys that are 9 and they always end up playing out on the dock, jumping in the water and swimming. The water was about 77 degrees, warm enough for them! There is some steps to get down to the dock, but it's great exercise for my boys going up and down to the cabin. The dock is great to hang out and fish and watch the sun go down. You can catch some great size northern and walleye right off the dock! The bay is perfect for pulling kids on the boat tubing. If you have a boat there is a public landing very close, and then just drive your boat over to the cabin. The basement is another area we end up hanging out, really great for a rainy day to watch a movie, play games, etc. the basement is a walkout, which is really great for running in and out when you need something. There is air conditioning that works great for hot days, but the nights cool to 50-60 degrees and the lake winds are a great way to cool the cabin at night too.
If you wait to buy food, there is great little grocery store in walker! Walker is a fun town to walk around and check out the candy shops, ice cream and there is pizza place that has some great pizza! There is a pharmacy to. There is also a great park with a playground in walker, it also has a basketball court that my boys like.
The beds and linens are comfy and clean, the main bedroom upstairs has a big patio door that leads out to the deck, you look right into the woods when you lay in bed. You can have a cup of coffee on the deck, or have a family dinner. You can see the lake from the cabin through the trees.
We love that there is a washer and dryer, makes it so much easier with kids and not having to pack so much, because you can just wash and dry at the cabin.
Just a fun all around great family place to stay to get away!
Our group of 4 (and dog) arrived on Saturday and were thrilled with the location. It's just far enough from Walker to feel like you are in the "wilderness". The cabin was clean and had all the amenities of home. The owners have taken care to make sure you have what you need, from linens to games to the basics in the cabinets to cook a nice meal. And a great meal indeed was had, we caught 4 nice Walleye on the lake to pan fry in the cast-iron skillet! There is a trash compactor in the garage which came in handy. It was great to go for nice long walks and spot wildlife as the cabin is off a heavily forested road. We enjoyed the eagle pair that flew by the windows each morning, the loons who visited a few feet from the dock, the porcupine and deer who meandered through in the evenings and of course all the little birds who fed at the feeders. We enjoyed the Lucky Moose and Charlies, and downtown Walker is a few miles away and has a good sized grocery store and several cute shops. Reeds was the place to go for all your fishing gear and licenses. The only issue that I can say we had was with the key that was left not working, but we were able to use the garage door opener to get in and out easily. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and will be back!
This was one of the most quiet peaceful places we have stayed in a long time. Fishing right off the dock provided good meals of fish fillets. There are some huge fish right around the dock that tore up my line. Enjoyed the farmers markets especially the fresh blueberries and sweet corn. The cabin is homey and relaxing and the fire pit provided some fun nights. We would definitely recommend this place if you want to get away from it all. Thank you for letting us share your fine home we really enjoyed it.
This place is as good as you think it is when you read the listing. We had a great week on the lake with boating, fishing, loon-listening (yes, that is a thing) and just relaxing. We especially loved the screened porch and the privacy of the location. Next time we will bring our bikes since there's a trail connection close by. Boat launch is close by, and I highly recommend the new BBQ place in Walker.
One word.... Perfect. We used the place as a "Man-cation" with my Brother, Father, Brother In-law, and three friends. Could not have asked for a better place. Fished all day, grilled meat and our catch at night. Then relaxed by the fire pit outside with some fine Ky. bourbon and cigars. Repeat for the next day. Our biggest Walleye was 31" and caught straight from the dock. Landed four more slots plus one big Pike (along with multiple Slimers) and Perch all at the dock, even had a Musky rise after a bait. That was a typical day after being on the lake. My brother and I our planning our next trip and hopefully this place is still available.
Ride bike to Paul Bunyan Trail (1 mile from property.
1000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
