The Great Room is very cozy with a nice stone fireplace, cathedral ceiling, beautiful hardwood flooring, entertainment center and comfy furnishings.

The Coloma/Watervliet area is in the heart of Michigan's fruit belt region along the shores of Lake Michigan. In the spring, stroll along the shoreline and see the flowers in bloom, stopping to browse at unique shops along the way. In mid to late summer, and early fall... visit the many area orchards that offer a variety of fruits and vegetables. Pick your own peaches, apples and pumpkins and take a hayride through an orchard at Harvest Festival time. Winter time offers snow skiing, ice skating, cross country skiing and other cold weather activities... Or, just cozy up to the Great Room fireplace and relax.

Nearby Coloma and Watervliet offer local dining, movie theaters, antique shops and small town charm. Unleash your adventurous spirit and take a short drive on scenic Lake Michigan Circle Tour Highway, M-63, hugging the Lake Michigan shoreline, north to South Haven and south to St. Joseph. There you will find good food, live music/theater, unique shops, museums and art galleries. Each town has individual charm with it's own lighthouse, boat filled harbor and unique attractions -- an experience you will not soon forget!

About David Cerney

Born in Oak Park, IL... raised in LaGrange Park and Naperville. Moved to Naperville in 1961 when the town was just a sleepy farming community... with family in the Michigan City, IN area going back to the late 1800s. Our family has been coming to SW Michigan since the early 1900's. I spent most of my (summer) childhood years on the beach in Stevensville, where my grand parents had a home on Lake Michigan. That's when I fell in love with the area and I've been coming back ever since.

David Cerney purchased this house in 1988

Why David Cerney chose Michigan

Familiarity and proximity to Paw Paw lake and Lake Michigan... and the love of the area! Love the laid back atmosphere, lack of traffic and abundant of outdoor activities the area provides!

Paw Paw Lake is great for water skiing and spending a leisurely day on the water. Lake Michigan is close... with several beach access parks nearby. The harbors, shops, restaurants and beaches of St. Joe, South Haven and Saugatuck can't be beat and have some of the best fresh water beaches in the world! Check out my favorite restaurants... Schu's, The Buck and Clementine's Too in St Joe, and Clementine's in South Haven and The Friendly in downtown Coloma!

What makes this house unique

Antique shopping... sampling the various restaurants... boating the lakes... vineyards, winery's and orchards... scenic traffic free country roads, and the Dunes are fantastic! Charming St. Joseph and South Haven, both 15 minutes away. All less than than two hours from Chicago...St Joseph, South Haven, Saugatuck/Douglas have some of the finest fresh water beaches in the world!

Fine restaurants in all these towns... Fishing Charters, Championship Golf at Hawkshead (South Haven), Harbor Shores (St. Joe), Paw Paw Lake Golf Course (Watervliet). Silver Beach Carousel and the Whirlpool Compass Fountain/Splash Pad for the kids in St. Joseph. Various local Vineyards and MUCH, MUCH more! Visit the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven and sail aboard the Schooner "Friends Good Will" ... available for sightseeing and charters.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dave, I wanted to reach out and thank you again for opening your home up to our families. We enjoyed your home as it had everything that we needed to enjoy some time away from our homes. The house was very clean and neat. We had everything we needed to make our meals and even cook out. Sadly I forgot to sign your guest book before we left. You are a terrific host and everything was perfect. Feel free to add this to your book if you'd like. - I'm still mad at myself that I forgot. Thank you again!

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and my cousin's family stayed here for a long weekend and we could not have been more impressed by the location and what the house had to offer. The house was extremely clean and it had everything we needed to cook meals and just enjoy the peace and quiet. Dave was a terrific host; very thorough. We will definitely consider staying here again. Thank you, Dave!

Owner's Response: Thanks Jonathan, I do appreciate the kind words and the great review! I try and do my best to make my guests feel comfortable. I have to tell you, the lady who cleans my house, Terry... is the best! She is very detail oriented and has been with me for a number of years now. I can always count on her to do a stellar job of keeping the house in great shape and squeaky clean. She deserves most of the credit for that! You guys were great guests as well! Folks, such as yourselves, that respect other peoples property and treat my home well are always welcome! You are welcome back anytime! Thanks again!

Cute little house

  • 4 of 5

Our experience was overall pretty good. There are some things in the house that could use attention..The front bedroom (closest to the street) needs a ceiling fan because the air circulation is not the best in there. There is also a very large hornets nest on the street side of the small building behind the house (visible from the living room window), that is a danger to anyone outside. Other than that, it's a cute and comfortable house.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review! Your suggestion concerning the ceiling fan will be taken into consideration. In regards to the Hornets nest, it was eliminated. Guests should contact me promptly... when situations like this occur...

Charming

  • 5 of 5

This house is delightful, with lots of modern touches to compliment its old-style comfort. A large yard is perfect for little ones to wear off excexx energy, while the Jacuzzi tub is perfect for their parents.

Comfortable and relaxing cottage across from the lake

  • 4 of 5

I took my daughter and her family here for some family time. The house served this purpose very well. It was very comfortable for the 4 of us. All the necessities were provided. We even found a crockpot in the cabinet, which we put to use to cook the beef for a big pot (also provided) of vegetable soup while we enjoyed our time at the beach. The master bedroom was spacious and had a good mattress.. It had sliding doors leading to a nice back deck overlooking the large yard and pond. I enjoyed watching the blue herron that made a visit each day. The master bedroom has a very nice attached bath that has a large Jacuzzi tub, a walk-in shower with 2 shower heads. A separate toilet closet with a pocket door for added privacy. The kitchen was small but quite functional. A small dining area had a 6 person table for meals with the family. We all enjoyed the coziness of the living room that had a large tv, fireplace, dual reclining loveseat and plenty of other seating. It also overlooked the beautiful back yard. The home sits on a quiet highway with large hedges that provide privacy. During our stay we spent time at St.Josephs, Holland, Saugatuck and my favorite, South Haven. We tend to stay very busy on out trips.

Some of the things we did in the area are: Express Yourself Art Barn (great for a rainy day) we all made projects that we got to take home, a nice souvenir of our trip, Critter Barn, in Zeeland, is a petting zoo on a farm near Holland that is free will donation. We all enjoyed this alot. Windmill Island is beautiful and only $9 adult admission. The carousel in St. Josephs ($3 per ride), blueberry picking is abundant in the area. We each picked a 3 gallon bucket full to take home. About $20 per bucket if you pick and depending on which patch you go to. We enjoyed a free concert in the park at South Haven one evening. The band even had drums set up for the kids and gave them a free mini drum lesson! South Haven has the best beach in the area in my opinion. We took the 6 year old to Hagar Park ( close to cottage) she enjoyed the playground. No beach here, but there are steps that take you down to the water. Most of the towns we went to are 20-30 minutes away from Paw Paw Lake Romance. Overall, a very nice trip! David, the owner, was nice to work with and even text me during a particular stormy morning that a squall line was nearing the area.

FYI: small qty of towels and washcloths but a washer and dryer is provided.

Nice comfortable home in a good location.

  • 5 of 5

The home was clean and neat and stocked with what we needed. I rented this home for our family of 6 to be close to our nephew's wedding venue. It provided the space we needed and we were very comfortable. I really wanted a home with 2 bathrooms and they were both very up to date.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't allow us to enjoy the property and yard.

It was well located near St. Joseph and the rental homes of the rest of the family.

The owner was very prompt with all communications. He gave very good and clear instructions about the home.

We really enjoyed the area and hope to get back.

Additional information about rental rates

Cleaning Fee $100
Damage Deposit $300

PLEASE NOTE: This home is recommended for a maximum of 6 occupants. Exceptions are possible, but the owner must approve any additional occupants over and above 6 adults. If approved a $75 fee will be imposed on each occupant, per night... over the 6 maximum allowed.

The two main bedrooms have Queen Beds in each room, to sleep a total of 4 adults. The third bedroom is smaller with a Bunk Bed and a pull out Trundle. While the Bunk Bed is sturdy enough to sleep 2 moderately sized adults, IT IS NOT normally recommended for 2 full sized adults. The bunks are recommended for children, teenagers, or young adults... primarily for comfort reasons. Because of the limited size of that bedroom, it is highly recommended that only young adults or children should sleep in the bunks... it would be a tight fit for more in that room with the trundle pulled out.

A standard Rental Agreement is required to rent this home. Any questions about this, contact the owner.
If additional occupants are approved (over 6 adults) there will be an additional charge of $75.00 per day, per person (no exceptions).
Exceptions can be made however, for smaller children, toddlers and infants... where parents bring their own crib. PLEASE CHECK WITH THE OWNER BEFORE BOOKING. Thank You!
