A Peaceful & Magical Historic Home w/4 bdrms, 3 bths, & outdoor pool
Located in the tiny town of Tyringham, near Lee, Stockbridge & Lenox and less than 10 minutes from the MA. Turnpike, this unique property is a beautifully restored Shaker Barn that was built in 1840 and tastefully renovated into a comfortable home in the mid 1990's.
The building has a long cultural history: originally it was a working barn, then it hosted Tyringham dances, later it became the piano studio for Walter Damrosch, (one of the founders of the New York Philharmonic) and, most recently, it served as a venue for private concerts. Both James Taylor & Dawn Upshaw have performed there.
The house is extremely private with an open out door shower, a swimming pool that looks like a natural pond and an unobstructed view of a classic New England breathtakingly beautiful valley. Sunlight pours in from the Southern & Eastern exposures.
The main room has the original wood dance hall floors, 30 ft. ceilings, an open kitchen, a grand fireplace, a piano and book-lined walls. The large screened in porch has a day bed perfect for lazy afternoon naps, watching the unobstructed view of the dance of the clouds across the valley or great big leisurely family gatherings.
The three bedrooms are on the lower level. The master bedroom has a door leading to to the garden, pool & outdoor shower. The children’s bedroom has a door opening to the area under the porch containing the hot tub. The upstairs bedroom has an antique bed.
It’s a great place to gather with family and/or friends in all seasons. The house has also been a creative retreat for numerous writers and artists.
It is close to Tanglewood in Lenox, Jacob's Pillow in Beckett, the restaurants and shopping of Great Barrington, and all the cultural and natural attractions of the Berkshires. The Appalachian Trail goes thru Tyringham and the property is a short stroll from the well-known Tyringham Cobble.
