How does one begin to describe paradise? Let me count the ways!

  • 1 of 5

My significant other and I just returned from spending six glorious days here. We’re both experienced travelers and between us have visited nearly every corner of the Islands, have owned and managed vacation rentals there, and have stayed in nearly every kind of accommodation offered, from world class resorts to bare bones hostels. The location is certainly great, and from the moment Jeff slid his key into the upside down front lock and turned on the usually malfunctioning florescent kitchen light, we knew this rental was far more special than the two interior photos shown in the ad.

Where does one begin? First thing, everybody gets up early in Hawaii. So we were thrilled that the small dogs living in the equally small compound have been trained to wake you up long before sunrise - each and every day - their yipping almost sounded like classic Hawaiian falsetto singing. Morning coffee brought the sweet aroma of pakalolo (marijuana), gently wafting through the moldy, utterly viewless, windows - fortunately there are no smoke detectors! Or those silly one-dollar plastic covers on the electrical outlets in the bathroom or next to the bed, (although, ironically, the outlets that didn’t work did have covers. We love irony). I even had the rare privilege of having a heavy piece of glass unexpectedly fall out of the kitchen window one night, bounce off my head and shatter in the sink. Good stuff.

Cooking Island style was also a true pleasure here! The vintage pots and pans, with remnants of flaking Teflon, the freezer that leaked water onto the food below, the thoroughly watered down and suds less dishwashing soap the crusted and broken bbq, the rich, powdery brown patina covering 'patio' dinning set, the columns of ants on the kitchen counter (wildlife alert: ants feeding on the dead cockroaches in the living room!), all of this added to that old Hawaii feeling that’s so hard to find these days.

We also had the honor of experiencing the deservedly bragged about “Roadrunner Wi-Fi”, which brought back warm memories of the dial-up days. The no radio or music idea was refreshing, the puny bargain basement ceiling fans and general lack of ventilation, the mosquitoes, the polyester sheets and pillow cases...these are the things that say aloha and are hard to find at any price, (if you could find them at all) just waiting for you to discover and enjoy on your own in this rare little gem. Bon Voyage!

Owner's Response: Please do NOT return to Hawaii EVER. We do NOT rent to DRUNKS (this is a private family owned rental). We do not want to share our paradise with any WEIRDO's. You broke-in the window when you got so drunk you could not open the door with the key (BTW: it ain't upside down when you are sober). This fine accommodation is for surfers, not dark and dreary bozos such as this creep. The only cockaroachs we noticed are two legged kine (you and your insignificant drunken concubine you brought with you). Police report filed. Paradise is where you find it, DO NOT COME here looking for trees when you are standing in the forest. What a KOOK.

Perfect position

This accommodation was great for our family of four. The location is perfect, between Pipeline and Sunset Beach. Jeff is a great host and will tell you everything you need to know about the area. Would definitely stay here again or recommend it to family and friends.

the Crawfords at Rocky Point

It was like coming home. We stayed in many other places at Rocky Point, but this one was the best. Awesome hosts. Great place, steps away from the beach and the surf. We hate to leave, but we will be back many times.

Excellent home away from home for two weeks!

  • 5 of 5

Jeff and Karen were terrific hosts. The room was extremely clean and inviting. The bed was great. The sofa was comfortable. The bathroom and kitchen were clean. They provided everything to make our stay very comfortable. Their daughter's amazing art was on the walls. Their bench on the beach was a great place for happy hour every night. Jeff was really fun to talk to about surfing and plants. We hated to leave!

Rocky Point was amazing

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I left the 5 boys home and got away for 8 days on the North Shore. We loved the location, as it is central to all the places we wanted to be. We spent a few days on the east side in Hauula & La'ie and a few days in Hale'iwa. Jeff and Karen were great hosts and made us feel at home. The only draw back for me was the double bed is not for a 6' 3" man, so if that's an issue you may not sleep too well. Overall we enjoyed our time. It was mostly a place to crash at night. The beach is just a 30 second walk and it is sweet. The waves weren't big this time of year, which we knew going into it. It would definitely be an awesome place to come watch the Vans Triple Crown Tournament, plus Jeff is a Pipeline Master and will give you all the info on the best surf spots anywhere around. Great people. Enjoy!
