My husband and I are former educators. We created a place in the mountains where we and our children could enjoy not only the beauty of nature and the mountains, but also all the wonders of outdoors - hiking, white water rafting, boating on the nearby lakes, jet-skiing, berry picking (blueberries and blackberries in season) and just plain relaxing and watching the sunsets from our decks and screened porch. Even extended family love the beauty and variety of the area.
We started by looking for a piece of property that had privacy and a great view, as well as proximity to certain amenities. When we found just what we were looking for, we built the house ourselves with a plan I devised. We're thrilled with the outcome.
For us, the greatest benefit is 'getting away from it all' - traffic, hassle, noise, etc. For the grown children and the little grandchildren, it's the lake and the hiking and the white-water rafting.
"This cozy cabin felt like a little piece of home with all of the extra touches(Halloween/fall decorations, comfy beds & couches, books & movies, rockers, etc.) We would love to come again!"

This cabin is beautiful and well maintained. The views are absolutely gorgeous. We where fortunate enough to have a thunderstorm the first night which was amazing over the mountains and a perfectly clear night for stargazing the last night of our visit. The proximity between Blue Ridge, GA , Blairsville, GA and Murphy, NC allow for a lot of exploring around the area. The driveway is a little tough but worth the climb.
We just returned from a long weekend at The Bluff and had an amazing time! It was a much needed getaway where we could relax and unplug. The cabin is very clean and well equipped. We cooked most of our meals at the cabin and besides the actual food, the only items we were missing were aluminum foil and cooking spray. Otherwise, we had everything we needed. The cabin is tastefully decorated. It's spacious yet cozy and tucked away in the woods but also very convenient to everything in the Blue Ridge area. Our two boys (ages 10 and 12) made the upstairs loft area their "hangout" and enjoyed playing games up there as well as sleeping in the two double beds. The beds both upstairs and downstairs were very comfortable. The views of the mountains are gorgeous, especially when the sun is setting. We did venture out to see the sights but also enjoyed just hanging out at the cabin on the reclining couch or in the rockers on the screened in porch.
This was our first trip to the Blue Ridge area and we didn't have nearly enough time to do everything we wanted to do, but the highlights of our trip included climbing to the top of Amicalola Falls (it's spectacular!), fishing on Lake Blue Ridge, feeding the animals at Build an Ark Animal Rescue (bring Cheetos for the pigs!), as well as shopping, dining and hunting Pokemon (Go Team Mystic!) in downtown Blue Ridge. The downtown area is lovely. We ate at several places during our stay but our favorite by far was Chester's. Highly recommended! A stop by Huck's General Store is a must! Huck is a super-friendly small business owner who engages every person that enters his store. You'll find lots of great gifts, souvenirs, and more at very reasonable prices. Don't forget to fill a bucket with penny candy!
The Ingles (local grocery store) was amazing. There's a Starbucks right inside the front door and the store offers more brands and choices than any stores I've seen.
The Cotters were excellent hosts. They responded quickly to every one of our emails and were very easy to work with. We called them with questions during our stay and they were friendly and helpful. A couple of light bulbs were out and they provided replacements the very same day. We viewed a lot of cabins on VRBO before our stay and we are so glad we chose The Bluff. It was the perfect size and location for our family at a great rate. Thanks again Jack and Barbara! Your cabin provided us the perfect escape from the blistering heat of Florida in the summer!
We recently stayed at the cabin and had a great time. We especially loved the layout, it was cozy but had a lot of space. When we walked in we were very pleased. I may have to ask the owners who the builder is. There were 4 adults for the 1st few nights and we all had room to stretch out. The bedrooms are on either end and spacious. We enjoyed the extras such as screened porch, deck above and below, hot tub and game room. The reclining sectional sofa was very comfortable. The drive to Blue Ridge was about 10-15 minutes and maybe 15-20 to McCaysville (sp?) on good 2 lane road. The road to the cabin is gravel, a little steep with a few bumps but only about 2/10 of a mile so no problem. There were a few minor things such as master shower and toilet placement was a little tight for me. The guest bath however was great. There were no instructions with TV/DVD. Because of the proximity to the road we did hear traffic but that is the trade off if you want a more convenient drive. With that said I would rent this cabin again and felt it was better than good so I gave it 5 stars. I have been to the Blue Ridge area many times and this cabin was definitely cleaner than most. I am sure had I contacted the owners about DVD operation they would have assisted. Overall a great relaxing time and a great cabin to return to after a day/evening out.
My friends and I have stayed at this cabin multiple times and it is always clean, well stocked, and so relaxing! The decor and furniture are perfect for lounging while catching up into the wee hours of the morning, and the kitchen is well equipped for dining in! We love a night in and a night out, and Blue Ridge is becoming quite the swanky hang out! I've even brought my kids with me on an occasion or two, and you can't beat the fall festivals and apple picking. Overall, this cabin is just the perfect place to kick back and relax, while being close enough to some interesting sights, and even pampering (Serenity in the Mountains is one of my favorite spas!). The Cotter's are super friendly and responsive, and you can tell they LOVE this cabin and take great care of it year after year! I always look forward to returning.
This was my second time staying at this log home! Naturally, I returned because the awesome accommodations, great views and the owners are easy to work with and very friendly. Beds are comfortable and you have everything you need in the kitchen. It is great relaxing on the porch in the rocking chairs or hanging out on the deck in the hot tub (awesome views) where there are table and chairs, cooking on the grill or chilling out in the living room in front of the fire place. The game room is fun! The first time, my best friend and I went. Most recently, my best friend and I returned with my sister and one of her good friends. Blue Ridge is only 10 to 15 minutes away where you can buy groceries. Downtown Blue Ridge has an area of quaint shops (two of my favorites are The Vine Wine Bar and Bistro and Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company) and the Blue Ridge Scenic Rail. There are many other towns and sights within 15 minutes to an hours drive. There are a number of falls and hiking trails in the area. If you enjoy wine, there are wineries worth visiting. Frogtown and Montaluce are very nice. You might want to check what days the wineries are open, their hours and if they serve lunch and what days. My sister and our friends are already talking about returning again.
LOVED the cabin--- it was great spending time in the cabin relaxing, playing all the games available downstairs for us---hot tub was clean and very relaxing...The View from the big windows and comfy furniture was just AWESOME!!
