Truly an Aloha Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully appointed with tasteful attention to detail and amenities. Comfortable and spacious yet cozy with nice little yard with grill. Newly renovated, very clean and well maintained. Quiet neighborhood and private setting. Convenient access to property. Short walk to Foodland and healthy walk to Ted's Bakery and all the beaches in between. Wifi a plus. Prompt and professional management of unit and much aloha from owners. Perfect for couples.

Not what we expected

  • 2 of 5

After having spent a week on Kauai and four days on the big island my husband and I wanted to wrap up our time in the Hawaiian Islands on the North Shore to enjoy the beautiful beaches.

Although the property's location is in close proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches we've seen, the bungalow itself was not what we expected. It's worn and looks more like a unit that would likely be rented by a group of adolescents looking for an inexpensive place to go in together to rent a place as cheap as possible.

The unit itself has no air conditioning (except for a window unit in the living room/kitchen) which wasn't a problem except the bedroom was SO hot and had such little ventilation it was impossible to sleep. Plus there is about six inches of clearance on either side of the bed.

Instead we put sheets on the couch in the living room and slept there.

It's just an old, tired unit that needs some attention (with the exception of the bathroom which appears to be recently updated). Location is good. Proprietor could have been more communicative. We would not stay on this property again.

Owner's Response: Aloha Deb, Sorry to read you were disappointed. The oceanside bungalow is a traditional planation house from the 70's. It has been remodeled, newly painted, new roof, but it still has the original Hawaiiana charm. Most people love the Bungalow and understand that it is a Bungalow not a Villa, it's small and cozy. There is a large window in the bedroom for ventilation. Most people do not use air conditioning in Hawaii. But, I do have a window unit in the living room area for hot days (evenings are cool and you can open the windows for the cross breeze). I understand you had different expectations, that's ok. Next time reach out, I have other rentals. Unfortunately, I never heard from you. But, would have liked to help you out during your stay. Mahalo nui loa

Perfect location !

  • 5 of 5

Overall we had a great stay at the Sunset Beach Bungalow. The location is ideal - easy walk to food trucks, beach, snorkeling, and the grocery store. A quick bike ride or walk to many other beaches as well! The bungalow is clean and tidy and Yuki was responsive and helpful with some bike malfunctions. Would definitely stay here agin! Thanks Yuki!

I enjoyed this little bungalow. I was able to avoid traffic and ride to Waimea Bay everyday. There is traffic noise, but I closed the windows at night before sleeping and used the fan . Yuki is very friendly and helpful.
