Why (Property Manager: Ronda Acuna) for (Owners: Duane & Lois Pederson) chose New Auburn
Our 107-acre piece of land, which now includes a mixture of open fields and forest, found its way into the Pederson family almost 100 years ago. At that time, it was purchased by a Norwegian gentleman named Ivar Pederson and his new bride Susie, who had grown up in this neighborhood in Northwestern Wisconsin. Right away the couple settled down, building the original small house for their family. Soon thereafter, as expected, children began to arrive—9 in all—and Ivar added more rooms to their home. When their children grew and began to marry, Ivar and his sons built a 2nd house to the east in the woods. In time, this small 16x20 home doubled in size as the family added another bedroom, laundry and bathroom. It was this 2nd house that would span decades into the future to become a place of retreat and rest, the Pederson Family Country Home where guests would enjoy the serenity and beauty of rural Northwest Wisconsin. Now, fast forward to 1976 . . . to the 3rd generation of Pedersons. Duane and Lois felt led to buy this farm keeping it in the family. Having inherited some of his grandfather's carpentry skills, Duane added the master bedroom upstairs and made changes to the roofline. As the years passed, both of their daughters spent a period of time living in this home with their families—the young ones being the 5th generation living on the farm. During this time Duane and Lois spent many years living abroad in Asia as missionaries. Grandpa Ivar and Grandma Susie's 1st home, was taken down sometime in the early 1980's. Duane and Lois made the decision in 1999 to build a new house, to replace that original family home. So they cut lumber from trees on their property, and began a 10-year construction process of rebuilding on the exact spot of Duane's grandparents 1st home. This new house, just to the west of the Pederson Family Country Home, is now Duane and Lois’ home.
