Family Vacation at Lil Beaver
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Lil Beaver. The property was very clean, well appointed, comfortable and peaceful. We loved the covered porches with rocking chairs and the hot tub was so relaxing. It truly felt like you were in a tree house, especially inside with all the windows around the living room and dining room. The mountain road to get there is steep in parts and turns to gravel. Not a problem for us but something others without all wheel drive may want to be aware of. It was within a short drive of all the restaurants, breweries and various activities in and around Blue Ridge.
Our only complaint would be with Vacasa, the property management company that manages the rental of this cabin. We wanted to be on a lake where we could swim and canoe (we have our own that we brought). I messaged the host through VRBO prior to booking and expressed this asking if swimming and canoeing were allowed in the lake the cabin is on. I received a speedy affirmative reply, yes you are allowed to swim, canoe, kayak etc on the lake. Wonderful, so I reserved it. Note you absolutely can not swim in this lake, which is actually more of a pond. It says this in big capital letters in the rental agreement you must sign after booking. So while that was disappointing we figured we could at least bring our canoe and paddle around, and if we wanted to go swimming we’d just go to Lake Blue Ridge, which we did. However upon arrival we discovered the “lake” is down a steep hill. While we may have got our canoe down there, it would have been a feat of strength to get it back up. Also it is actually quite muddy and weedy so getting in and out of the canoe would have been problematic even if we could get it down there.
We still enjoyed the cabin very much and you can tell the owners take great care and pride in their vacation home. However, the property management company, Vacasa, is clueless as to what the property is actually like. It was even more disappointing since we specifically asked these questions prior to booking and were greatly misled. I sent an email to Vacasa on our day of arrival, Sunday, expressing all this and have yet to receive a reply on our day of departure, Friday. Beware of booking vacation rentals through Vacasa! A search on the internet reveals this. Wish I would’ve done that too before booking instead of just messaging the host. Silly me! :-/
Short getaway in the woods
The cabin was great for a quick getaway without the kids. Loved the location, easy to get to hiking trails and into downtown Blue Ridge. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed to cook a few meals. A little tricky to get up the mountain in a minivan, but still managed okay.
Cute, cozy, clean cabin. My only minor complaint is a tiny pedestal sink in the bathroom, makes it hard for a woman to get ready 😀
Peaceful! Nice little weekend getaway!
Loved everything about the cabin. Never figured out how to work the fireplace but we servived. Perfect for a weekend away!
Loved this cabin & the perks it has. Awesome porch (espcly the down stairs one!) view of water is pretty & has fire pit by water to enjoy a small fire while swinging on the loveseat swing! Hot tub felt awesome. This place has all fenced in porches to secure the pups who join the family on vacation. OH ANNNDDDD there is a little heater outside by the hot tub so your fur babies won’t freeze while you soak! Awesome place to get away for a few days! If I could change one thing it would be how close the other cabins are. They are not wall to wall, BUT close to one another! Overall loved it and would highly recommend this cabin!
-If your staying for more than a day & plan on cooking meals, I would bring dish soap. They give you some but a very small amount.
-Firewood for the small fire pit isn’t provided so grab a bundle on the way.
-If you plan on keeping pups by little heater by hot tub, I would recommend bringing a small bottle of propane. 16oz Coleman propane (bottle is green) would work perfectly.
-There is a washer & drier, but bring laundry soap as none is provided.
Perfect Honeymoon Spot 💕
My husband and I loved it! We wanted a super low key honeymoon away from everything! This place was perfect with the hot tub and couch that pulls out to a pallet type thing we laid and watched movies! I honestly could not have asked for a better place! We have already planned with another couple to come to this cabin again in the summer!
