About The Owner

We lived in northern California near the beach before making the break to Mexico. Now we are happily retired, living in a gorgeous part of the world, with many interesting friends and no shortage of things to do.

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Why The Owner chose Guanajuato

The climate in Guanajuato is as close to perfect as you are going to find. And with all the world-class cultural opportunities ... theater, music, movies ... well, it's a beautiful way to live!

What makes this house unique

Casita Hermosa is in a great part of town. Guanajuato is built in a series of canyons dotted with haciendas and mines dating back to the 1500's when this area was first discovered by Spanish explorers. We are at the end of one of the canyons, close enough to easily walk anywhere but with the tranquility of country living. The view we enjoy is of unspoiled mountain beauty and incredible Colonial architecture. With 500+ year-old walls in the hacienda below, we also sit across from the ruins of Mina San Vicente and below the still active Mina de Rayas, with the Mellado church perched above. It is the perfect combination of country, city and history!

Serenity in the City!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 6 fabulous days in Guanajuato and our time was enhanced by being able to escape from the crowds to Ron & Amanda's cozy and tranquil casita. From the casita, you can be in the centre of town in a mere 15 minutes (walking) enjoying ice cream, latte's and all the culturally rich sights and sounds of the city. Absolutely the best of both worlds!

The casita is surrounded by bougainvillea and cactus with amazing views of 15th & 17th century silver mines from both the patio and dining table. We felt so fortunate every day to be witness to this history. We also enjoyed sitting on the stone patio enjoying morning café or an evening beverage listening to the sounds of the neighbourhood and feeling the late afternoon breezes.

The casita has everything you could possible want/need including a library, orange juicer (so worth buying local oranges for morning juice), and a wonderfully comfy bed!

Mestizo for lunch or dinner is a must in Guanajuato. It is located just up from the Diego Rivera museo, another must see.

Many thanks Amanda and Ron for your hospitality and sharing your casita. We truly hope to return for another visit in the near future.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this casita. It is in a beautiful setting, very quiet, and the walk into town and back really improved our fitness! There is a bit of a hike back up the hill or you can take a taxi for about 40 pesos. The casita is nicely decorated and very well equipped, can't think of anything that could be added. Amanda and Ron were very gracious and helpful and we loved the daily visits by the 2 dogs.

We really appreciated that Amanda kept us informed of all the cultural events going on in town and it also pays to check the various billboards in town to see what is coming. Sunday morning we enjoyed the "danzon" in the Jardin - don't know if it is every Sunday or not. Our favourite restaurant is Il Tapatio across from the University steps - good food and good prices. Our other favourite is the La Carreta with their wonderful wood-fire roasted chickens - order a whole chicken and take home he extra for another meal! Don't miss the Pork Carnitas sandwiches in the market either.

Thank You Amanda and Ron

  • 5 of 5

A delighful Casita, very private & in a peaceful situation. Amanda & Ron were brilliant hosts, yet never intrusive. They had lots of advice & recommendations to help us get the most from our stay. Ron invited us to join him on his evening walk, wihich gave us a perfect orientation. Guanajuato is a facinating town, easily reached by walking down from the Casita. You will find good cafe's & a colourful market.

We had a really great time & plan to return to explore this beautiful area further. The Casita will make a perfect base.

Rincon de Guanajuato

  • 5 of 5

Casita Vista Hermosa is a great spot from which to enjoy your visit to Guanajuato. Within walking distance to centro, but up and out of the commotion when you need a break. A very comfortable and relaxing casita, with wonderful views up and down the ravine (a side ravine to the main one of the city) and beyond to the mountains. The fireplaces are a nice additon when the tile gets cooler. The landscaping of the property adds to the ambience and tranquility.

The owners are very knowledgable about the city and surrounding area. They are very helpful and gladly answer questions.

From our travels Guanajuato is one of the gems of Mexico. To stay in a casita with the amenities and comfort of Vista Hermosa only enhances a stay in this magical city

Our Stay with Amanda and Ron Ruiz

  • 5 of 5

Just what we badly needed after a Winter of health problems. Unfortunately, we had to go home a week early to resume medical treatments which are now successfuly past, We're hoping to return for another stay in the future in this lovely guest cottage - very attractive and well maintained. (Only suggestion -

small oven or toaster oven which would better facilitate meal preparation. ) Amanda and Ron are extremely gracious and helpful hosts.. A lovely place to stay.
