About Connie Hartke

Connie & Paul Hartke own several vacation rental properties. Connie manages our two cabins in the Smoky Mountains and runs our online real estate school. Paul co-owns a very busy real estate company in Northern Virginia and is our school instructor. We live work and play in Reston, VA, but always have "one foot" in the Smokies.

Connie Hartke purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Connie Hartke chose Sevierville

The Views. Come see and you will understand.

This cabin has a small flat yard with swingset so it is great for small children and dogs of all sizes. Older kids will welcome the freedom to "roam and explore."

We fell in love with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and bought our first cabin, Eagles View, in 2005. Above the Clouds was purchased in 2006. We love the friendly people in the area and hiking in the park. Both cabins were destroyed in a fire in March 2007, so we rebuilt and were renting again by Thanksgiving.

We visit several times a year to hike to a new waterfall and keep our cabins in A+ shape.

What makes this cabin unique

'Above the Clouds' has a unique central beam with wildlife carvings by a local artist. The cabin is truly wheelchair accessible, including the lower level game room!

Located 1/2 hour or less from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge (10 miles), Sevierville and Townsend. Less than a 10 minute drive to the Smoky Mountain Park. 'Above the Clouds' is a deluxe cabin with the best views in the entire area. It borders the Great Smoky Mountains and overlooks Wears Valley with one of the most scenic, panoramic views in the Smokies. A previous guest said 'everyone should see this view at least once in their lifetime.' This rental is pet friendly and handicap accessible with a mountain boardwalk along the ridge over toward private community swimming pool.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This wheelchair accessible cabin made it possible for our entire family to enjoy a beautiful vacation together. My husband is in a power wheelchair and 2 of the 3 levels of the cabin are accessible allowing him to be part of the family activities. The beds are on an open frame so we were able to easily use our hoyer lift and there are 2 roll-in showers which worked well for our needs.

The owners of the cabin were very helpful leading up to our trip. The cabin itself is well equipped with everything you would need in the kitchen, entertainment options, and even WiFi.

The location is fantastic for getting into Smoky Mountain National Park on a less traveled entrance. The only thing that surprised us was the very steep drive up to the cabin if you're not used to driving in the mountains.

We are already talking about planning our next vacation to the cabin!

(Owner's Note: These great guests have returned several times! The steep part of that paved road is only 1/2 mile. We know it seems longer, especially the first time, but the views are well worth it!

Beautiful views and beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay. Way to short. The home is beautiful and the views were equally beautiful. We were on the go so much that we didn't get to spend allot of time there. Next trip, we will do some R & R.

The Cabin Set the Stage for a Wonderful Vacation / Best Birthday Ever

  • 5 of 5

First Impression / Wow What a View

The drive up was challenging but easier that I imagined. Interestingly enough it was more difficult than imagined for my son in law. Thanks for the detailed drive instructions, Connie.

We understood that their was a path / trail / hike up the next mountain from the cabin but I did not see that clearly marked.

We never made it down to check out the pool we were so busy with other things. Maybe next time. We would like to come back again sometime.

It might be helpful in the future to have a floor plan available for a potential renter especially for bathrooms relative to bedrooms.

We loved the 3D map of the Smokey Mountain National Park and the surrounding areas like where the cabin is. It might be nice to have a pin on the map to show where the cabin is.

My daughter had two complaints - she had to sweep up some dog hair from the bottom floor and the top bunk bed did not have a fitted sheet only a top sheet over the mattress cover.

While I enjoyed the sleep on the mattress in the main level bedroom on the side farthest from the door, I found the mattress uncomfortable on the side nearest the door.

The washing machine was too small and the towels smelled a bit like mildew at first. We suggested to the cleaning team to run a load with bleach only to address that. There was a window that needed to be cleaned on the outside toward the next cabin but it would need a ladder to do so or a tall pole. The coffee drinkers said the coffee maker was too slow.

I loved looking out the side window and NOT seeing sky - only the taller mountain ridge right next to us. We loved the view of the Milky Way at night. We enjoyed a light show in the distance with a thunderstorm over in North Carolina. The sunsets were breathtaking. We enjoyed the hot tub

but were a bit concerned that it seemed to run a lot to keep the temperature in place. We enjoyed the privacy of the end cabin.

Thank you Connie for my birthday card. I wondered if you remembered from my first communication with you. You are a very professional business person in remembering that detail. We used a match for a birthday candle only to find birthday candles later.

I ran out of AAA batteries on a device and was surprised to find some in the drawer. By the way I did replace them.

I heard a coyote outside my window in the middle of one night which was a bit disconcerting but ultimately indicative of how far away we were from the real world

Well Maintained and Very Disabled User Friendly Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was a dream find for our family. My daughter who is wheelchair-bound enjoyed a wonderful week. Vacation sites like this one are not easy to find, but this one for us is a keeper. We definitely see a return visit in our future. While we didn't enjoy blue skies the entire week, we did enjoy firework displays both across the valley and in the sky. We did truly feel like we were above the clouds (as well as in them) several mornings!

This cabin is filled with many thoughtful touches like a lowered microwave and two roll-in showers make this a site for families with more than one individual with special needs. There is plenty of wild life to be seen: we encountered wild turkeys, deer, bears, and plenty of birds both at the cabin and during our travels into the national park areas.

It's close enough to both Pidgeon Forge and Gatlinburg for day adventures and the grocery delivery service was certainly a godsend for the day we arrived.

Fantastic cabin, breathtaking view, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We could not be happier with our choice to stay at Above the Clouds. The cabin was gorgeous and has everything we needed and wanted. We loved the location, far enough from town to be surrounded by nature, yet conveniently close enough for easy access to the National Park each day. The view was my favorite part. And the fact that we could stay here with our dog! The owners were so responsive and easy to work with. We would definitely choose to stay here again.

On top of the world!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing time. This cabin was the perfect place for our family. One of our boys is paraplegic and it was great to see him enjoying his freedom in such an amazing place. My other son is starting to hike with my husband and they loved the hike up the mountain. The view was incredible and it was close to everything we wanted to see while we were visiting Tennessee.

Ridgetop cabin with panoramic views of Wears Valley and the Smoky Mountains to the south and west, toward Gatlinburg, Smokies, and Pigeon Forge to the north and east. Close enough to everything, yet semi-secluded and peaceful. 20 minute drive to Pigeon Forge, 27 mins. to Dollywood. 5 mins. to GSMNP entrance. If you want to visit Cades Cove early in the morning -- this is a great starting point. Beautiful drive through the Park -- cabin is located half way between Cades Cove and Gatlinburg.

Explore Townsend - the Quiet Side of the Smokies. Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center has free areas & minimal admission -- very interesting! Caves, bike riding & good restaurants in and near Townsend also.

There are only 8 cabins on this dead end road -- this is not one of those cookie cutter resorts! 3 cabins are owned by my family -- great for a reunion - ask about renting multiple cabins!

Summertime - Private swimming pool is shared by only 8 cabins.
