Bigger than it looks!
This place was perfect for us. It is RIGHT across the street from the beautiful Bayeux Tapestry. Just around the corner from a grocery store and plenty of restaurants. It had an astonishing amount of room for a little attic apartment. We were 2 adults and 3 kids and it never felt too small for us, even with the couch pretty much always in "bed" shape. Sandrine has a few staples in the kitchen, salt, pepper, herbs de provance, coffee filters. And the washing machine was a lifesaver! We went home with clean clothes instead of a week's worth of dirties for 5 people. Yikes!
If i could make a few small suggestions, it would be to add some place to hang coats, we couldn't every figure out a good place to keep them. Possibly add a high chair for baby guests. We put our young toddler in one of the chairs and she fell out. She's ok, but there wasn't really a good place for her to sit for meals. Which means either an adult has to hold her (and can do nothing else), or she walks around (and gets food all over).
Also, the instructions for getting into the courtyard and apartment translated OK using google translate, but it didn't really make sense until we arrived and could see the keypads, etc. I'm pretty sure I accidentally rang a neighbor's doorbell trying to get the gate fully open because I thought their doorbell was the gate button. So, anyway, it might be better if an English speaker created an English set or a French set that translates smoothly in Google or other translation apps. I'd even be happy to help with that so other travelers can be confident they understand what they need to do when they arrive.
But honestly, even without the suggestions above, I would rate this a solid 10. Great spot, nice apartment, good price, secured parking, comfy beds. Future guests should note there is no oven. Don't get a frozen pizza for an easy dinner :-o We'll remember this place fondly and definitely recommend it to friends coming to Normandy. Thank you, Sandrine!
Exactly what we were hoping for with everything we expected!
Merci à vous !!! Heureuse de voir que ça vous a plu ..... revenez quand vous voulez !!
Apartment in beautiful 17th century building within 5 minutes walk of central Bayeux
Beautiful 17th Century building, pretty quiet and secure with secluded gardens and off road parking, unyet a short walk from the centre of Bayeux and all of its attractions and restaurants.
The apartment was plenty big enough for us (couple with adult daughter) but would probably be a bit crowded with more than four guests.
We very much enjoyed our week there.
We visited Bayeux to tour the D-Day beaches.
An apartment that is within walking distance of everything you need. Shops, grocery and history. I would go back again.
Merci pour votre visite
Great location. Comfortable and quaint apartment, with a few caveats (read below).
We spent a week there and had a wonderful time. There were three of us - myself, my wife and our 10-year-old son - and the apartment perfectly met our needs and was just as advertised. With that said, it may not be suitable for everyone, as I'll explain below.
First, the location is great. If you're going to explore the D-day beaches (and southern Normandy in general), Bayeux is about as perfect as it gets. You're close to most of the sights, and the city itself has plenty to offer (the Bayeux tapestry is a must-see) with lots of restaurants to choose from. The apartment is right in the heart of it all, but is off a sleepy street and was very quiet at night. There are several restaurants and a grocery store within very easy walking distance. A big bonus is that it comes with private, secured parking lot. If you've been to Europe before, you know that parking can be a challenge. A warning, however: Rent as small a car as possible. It'll be easier to get around cities and towns, but more importantly, the gate to get in to park is on the narrow side.
The apartment itself was moderately furnished, which was fine for us since we only really used it for sleeping. It's size is on par with what you'll find in other old European cities, which is another way of saying that to us Americans, it's small. The living room has a pullout couch so you could sleep six, but you'd run out of room quickly. I'd say the couch is only an option if you have more than 2 kids. There is a separate washer and dryer, unlike the single-unit washer/dryers you find in some small European apartments, where it takes 3 hours just to dry a pair of socks.
Now for the big caveat: If you have any issues with mobility whatsoever, this place probably won't work for you. It's in a very old building that's been modified and chopped up countless times over its lifetime. For example, the hallway stairs leading up to the front door don't end until they're halfway past the door. So as you walk out of the door, you're halfway stepping out onto the stairs. Also, to reach the main bedroom, you need to duck through a short passage way and down wooden steps. If I had brought my parents, we'd have spent most of our trip in the emergency room.
If you're looking for a 2-bedroom apartment in a great location and don't have problems getting around, this is a great option. The owners don't speak English but between my high school French and Google Translate, we had no problems communicating.
